When I was younger I did speed but often not on purpose just for the sake of speeding. It was more in ignorance and misunderstanding of the law. I got pulled over for speeding 3 times in a short amount of time and was at risk of losing my license. I had to change. It's been maybe 4 years since then that I have been driving under the speed limit maybe around 90-95% of the time.
I say 90-95% because if I'm in a 25 I might drive close to 23 or 24 intentionally just because 25 is already pretty slow driving. During that time I try to pay attention to my speed even more and sometimes I may go over a very little bit, however, it is never my intention to speed.
Also, if I'm in a 35-65 range I usually drive a little slower, for instance on the highway. Most of the time I'm in the slow lane and don't have a problem staying under and I feel really relaxed with no worries while others speed past me.
I also say 90-95% of the time because sometimes I have to follow someone in a car. They usually know that I don't condone speeding but for there general lack of concern for my moral conviction they speed anyway. If I don't follow them I might get lost. This is extremely frustrating so I generally try to avoid having to follow people. Especially those who willfully break laws and try to lead me into sin.
Also once and a while, and it is usually pretty rare, if I am late to a class or work I might speed. I try to manage my time very well so I would say in the past year for these instances I probably only did this twice or three times in one year. I still do not condone this behavior.
To say anyone is perfect in obeying this law is ridiculous. I sin but do not want to intentionally and I certainty do not keep any law to it's perfection. I'm human and that's what forgiveness is for. What matters most to me is the fact that I most always try to do what is right in the eyes of GOD regardless of what others might say or think about me.
I hope this helped someone. I will also say if you are a current speeder drive under the speed limit and ask God to help you change as you see the law in the correct light. You might be pleasantly surprised how easy it actually is. Not only will you keep your conscience clear regarding this issue but you most likely won't have to be afraid of the cops pulling you over for speeding anymore.
Following the law, at least for myself, is a joy and fun to do. I used to not manage my time well and was forced to speed to get anywhere or just didn't care. Now I have incredible peace when I drive.
Also I will say this. It is most discouraging when professing Christians mock me, make fun of me and make light of obeying the law, specifically speeding. Little do they realize they are mocking God and his laws which apply to everyone. No one is above the law. (Yes, believe it or not I have been mocked for driving under the speed limit by professing Christians)
*Everyone should be subject to the ruling authorities...the authorities that exist have been established by GOD.*
Do not fall under the assumption that everyone speeds and jump on the bandwagon fallacy. Do what is right in the eyes of God and stop worrying about what other people think. (This applies to the life every professing Christian in all aspects of life) There are others out there who take speeding seriously as well as God's other commands.
There are many other driving laws that I am not even aware of and could be breaking. I do not condone this. However, the speed limit is as black and white as it gets. (The signs are literally black and white) Some people who justify speeding saying the speed limit signs are the "spirit of the law" and not black and white.
This is absolutely false. You can't enforce a law unless it is black and white. If anything I could see warning signs seen as being the "spirit of the law". But really the concept of the "spirit of the law" is a man made excuse to justify sin.
If you are a professing Christian this is an important topic for you. I will ask you, where are you always in such a hurry to go, Church? Wow. Not good. If you want to start driving under it might be hard at first because you might be concerned about the drivers behind you and don't want to be a burden to them.
*I say drive under because no one can drive exactly the speed limit, as it is virtually impossible*
By obeying the law you are not only keeping yourself safe but you are keeping those behind you accountable and making them aware that there are people out there who take this law seriously.
Also, don't make the assumption that this is an "unjust law" by comparing it to the legalization of abortion and so called homosexual marriage. Posted speed limit signs keep drivers safe and accountable to each other and are reasonable and logical and most importantly do not conflict with any of God's laws.
The legalization of abortion and so called homosexual marriage are in direct conflict with God's laws. They are immoral and abominations and should be broken and not taken seriously. An unjust law is no law at all.
I've also made a forum post titled "Should Christians Drive Under the Speed Limit". You might want to check this out to see what other professing Christians have to say regarding this issue.
(Try not to read this to find errors. I'm human I'm sure anyone could find things they don't agree with. With this in mind, most of what I wrote is my personal experience and IMO.)
Obeying the posted speed limits, You can do it!
Grace, mercy and peace to all of you and blessings in My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
