I have done a study on this and here is what I have found in scripture regarding this issue.
From all of these scriptures, it seems clear that God's desire is for His children to stop sinning.
Genesis 4:7 (NIV)[SUP]7 [/SUP]If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
John 5:14 (NIV) 14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”
John 8:11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
1 John 3:6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
Psalm 1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
Romans 6:1-2 (NIV) 6 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Romans 6:14 (NIV) 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
1 John 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you WILL NOT SIN. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
Hebrews 10:26 (NIV)[SUP]26 [/SUP]IF we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, [SUP]27 [/SUP]but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
