They only lifted it to replace it with a two child policy. So they still control life and death, and there will still be forced abortions etc.
Aye that is true too. Indeed must be wary of the CCP. Nevertheless though it also helps to strengthen the case to transist for China to be more open and free, which their government so far seems to be moving towards under Xi Jinping. Alas though the paradigm in China can turn on a dime at any time and frequently in history too. The CCP is powerful but its highly paranoid about change. Perhaps rightly so. To try to even manage countless people is easier said than done. To try to control them, it is not possible. I'm still somewhat surprised they're even moving this fast.
I think ideally allowing two children will reduce some abortions There is the forced abortion indeed, but more startlingly is the infanticide and such not even directed by the government but because in certain areas of their culture they desire a male child, so the people as individuals or families kill babies or abort them if they are girls. Not only that direct problem itself but that creates a certain stigma and negative culture against women. Hopefully by allowing at least two children, and maybe changing that upwards in the future, girls will be more equally valued. Like for example if for say a couple's first child is a girl, perhaps they will not discard her immediately in hopes that at least the second child may be a boy.
