Yes. I am guilty as charged. I listen to Supertramp........
Anyway. The reason why I post this is because of a woman entering the Biblestudy chatroom the other day, referring to the stages of grief or Cullberg's theory on crisis. Actually she told the room that she was entitled to be all "me, me, me" (my paraphrasing) because of that.
So, yes. We deal with our personal crisis differently, and some never seem to get out of the shock, reaction phase, constantly returning to denial and disbelief. How do we deal with people that seem to be stuck? Suffering is real. Sometimes I return to that state of disbelief and self pity, too. But how to break that pattern? It just doesn't lead to anything, but drives the person suffering and the people around crazy.
I have my tools, of course. I just start to praise and worship, and the focus on me and my suffering slowly shifts focus and I am once again in the bliss and joy of being close to Christ. But can that be applied to everyone? How do we show respect and compassion, when the only thing that comes to mind is "get over it!" and "move on!"?
