Do you read both the OT and the NT? If not why?
I had someone say to me they only read the NT because they do not believe in the OT.
What is your favorite OT/NT of the Bible? Mine Isaiah, because it is the Book that most fulfills my faith, and Hebrews, because it is the only NT Book that explains and made me understood Y-shua is Messiah.
Both because it's all the Word of God. Over the years I've learned how important it is when reading the Bible to understand that the whole Bible is written "FOR" us all but not everything in the Bible is written "TO" us.
Some promises and instructions are specifically to Israel alone in the OT while other promises or instructions are written for all believers too. For instance when David prayed in the Psalms "take not your Holy Spirit from me" Psalm 51:10-11
[SUP]10 [/SUP]Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering,
and steadfast spirit within me.
[SUP]
11 [/SUP]Cast me not away from Your presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
In the new covenant (post cross) we have the Holy Spirit residing in us who promises never to leave us. The old covenant saints did not have that promise. So praying that now would not apply to us but it applied to David because in the OT the Holy Spirit came on people and left them too.
The same with create in me a clean heart oh God. When we got saved., we got a brand new heart that is clean at all times because of Jesus.
Also., God promised never to flood the whole earth again. And He even left a rainbow behind to remind us. Yet some people don't know God made that promise and movies have been made about the earth being flooded. But we can know that God promised not to flood the who earth again.
Knowing good guide lines like this will help believers to not be confused when reading the old and the new. It's also important for Christians today to KNOW they are not old covenant saints so the old covenant doesn't apply to us. We are all new covenant believers.
Much more to this but just wanted to post my findings. Also., I don't really have a favorite book of the Bible. I like to read them all.
