I'm listening, Nick. But for starters, I might suggest reading "The Gospel of John" in it's entirety. Ever done that? If not, it'll give your the perfect opportunity to investigate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ (who is the God that you're unsure of believing in). Overall, I see this as being a very reasonable and necessary step for anyone with doubts, Nick. So consider it this way: If you didn't immediately trust your new supervisor at work, what would you do? If you're like most of us, you'd definitely check him out, observe his behavior (especially when no one's looking), find out his track record with others, and get a clear sense of what he expects of you, right? Only then, after you've fully investigated these things, can make up your mind about where you stand with him. Am I right?
Hope this is helpful, Nick. I'm all ears...
