I really love god but the last few years i have got saparatrd from him plaese help me an pray for me
The most important aspect to repentance is acknowledging your own sin. Atheists will claim that because we can receive forgiveness at any time Christianity only serves to stunt emotional growth. But Christianity is about repentance. And repentance requires a change of heart - not just a seeking after of emotional consolation that forgiveness can bring with it.
Psalm 51:17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
Don't try to ask for forgiveness for the sake of emotional consolation. Don't ask God to help you do better in order to shift the burden of responsibility onto him. What you do is up to you. You are responsible for your own actions. Don't at any time in the process of repentance try to make yourself feel better. Purge all such selfish thoughts from your heart. If you have done wrong, then you have no excuse. Quiet your heart before God, contemplate on what you've done. Do not try to feel like you have "made progress." If there is progress it will show itself in due time. Not just in a single moment.
Passover is coming up very soon along with the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Just as we are to search every crevice of our house for leaven, so we are to search every crevice of our heart for sin and then purge it.
I say this all to you, because I have a relative who plays emotional games with herself. She has an addiction. And every time she messes up she "repents." She tells me of all the progress she has made. She tells me that she is sure she can lick it this time and "feels" good about how far she has come when she really has only sunk deeper than before. I think in order for repentance to work we need to be self-sacrificing and assign to our reprehensible actions reprehensible emotions so that we will never want to go back again.
