No... you aren't being too sensitive. Tell your mom it's porn because it stirs up lust in the heart and and is therefore a form of literary porn.

But seriously (again! and this time I'd like an answer from the girls-who-like-the-book) WHY DO WOMEN FIND THIS BOOK TO BE SO "SEXUALLY LIBERATING". What is so dang liberating about the idea of a guy abusing and controlling you? Wouldn't you rather be cherished and respected as an equal in marriage... having free reign of choice? I can understand that you want a strong guy, girls, but "abusive men" and "strong men" are polar opposites of each other. Usually, abusive men are actually very insecure and small in spirit. They don't deserve to be called strong, much less respected. And no, your love for them cannot save them with pity and long-suffering... only Jesus can save these poor jerks.

I've read nothing but bad about this book, including an article by a secular psychiatrist, who labels it as abusive porn.

But I am not getting angry and letting it control my life. It really is no big deal, although I have had a few arguments on my FB page about it.

It was nice to see the posts, as it let me filter out the sheep from the goats!

I think certain people are sensitive to certain things. Like for me it's immodesty, bad words and gossip. But instead of worrying about them, pray for them :) It is so much easier to leave the matter to the Lord. He will heal their hearts and eventually they should see their ways.

Don't tell her it's bad and act judgmental. She will likely ignore you and maybe even get upset. Be a loving daughter and through your actions she will see why you are that way. And it's because you don't read those kinds of books.

Kudos to you for being so young and separating yourself from society! God bless you and I hope it goes well with your mom! :)

So I REALLY HATE 50 shades of grey for multiple reasons and I HATE IT WITH A PASSION! My mom and dad think it's "disturbing" how much I hate it. Is this a bad thing?

I also think I am freaking out a bit because my mom has read the book...AND LIKED IT! *shudder* And that just sits wrong with me. Am I being too sensitive?
Yes, you're being too sensitive. Here's some blunt honesty that's probably going to aggravate that condition.

Who made you judge of the world? Seriously? You sound like my granddaughter stamping her foot and screaming, "NOOO! Do it my way!!"

Yes, it's disgusting. So don't read it? Why are you so focused in on this that you had to make an entire forum thread to talk about how scared you are for your mother's soul reading a piece of fiction?

You know what I hate? Survivor. I think it's the most insipid, vapid, ugly, cruel farce of television that's ever been made. What kind of humanity are we that we make entertainment out of starvation, deception, and hateful manipulation of others? However, I don't think less of my sister because she likes it. She's who she is, and it makes her smile for a minute. I don't begrudge a single person in this world for watching it. To each their own.

Their souls....not your business. Your "loving concern" is nice, but your looking down your nose doesn't make anyone want to hear about the loving kindness of Messiah, and that is your business. If what she's doing is wrong, that's between her and Messiah, and her confession should be with him, not you and everyone here on a public forum. Instead of wagging your tongue about your mother's sin in public, and worrying about a book that doesn't concern you in the least, you might try reading your bible, and humbly asking the Lord to help your mother turn from her "wicked" ways. Just saying that would be more productive.

I'll leave the armchair psychology to someone else.

Maybe you can take your mum to a battered womens shelter to see the results?
Or else you can tell her that you now like the book and that you are going to advertise on craigslist and engage in these fantasies with random strangers.
Will she like the book then?
Oh, come on. That's stereotyping something you don't understand.

it is better that someone speaks up against wickedness like any shades of grey - from movies to bambling to idoltree to greeeeed

and the weak ones, the little sheep, bleating or baaaaa-ing when vexed and sore and troubled is a sure sign

that the shepherd is needed

and even though the 'flock' usually (most commonly, though not right) lives worse than the corinthians did,

the true men of God should and do step up and speak God's Word against the sin, no matter what the

general public, the gubberment or society or mankind or any other religion(all false) says.....

particularly to silence the wicked - gays, (since the devil has thrust them to the forefront in many places, and they are servants of the devil who need to be freed , if that is even possible today);
war-mongers,
political activists without any truth in their lives,
casinos and anyone who supports them (they are inescapably wicked , evil, and destructive),
profit-mongers (any form of greed, especially those who trample peoples lives and health and ability to live),
movies/ hollywood (bollywood) / worldly entertainment (the garbage of the world) /
'pretend' churches concerned only with $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ (x10e1000 for the rcc),
i.e.
all that is wicked,
even if and as totally accepted as normal by the world, and even most churches!(sad, mourning required for the great sin of the world's churches; as God permits, may they repent, as many as the Lord our God shall show mercy on)

pastors, priests, evangelists, preachers, teachers, have all turned their heads away too often all the time
from
the care and nurturing and protection and truth to help the poor and weak and young...

it's time , all the time, to protect the weak, and to expel the wicked person(and businesses) from among you.(1 corinthians 5)

(1 corinthians 6) the ekklesia will judge the world; it's time to shame the church leaders who refuse to do what God's Word says - who operate just like the world, even worse, instead of God's Way.

true, to a point, but it is kind of hard to 'ignore' when the assemblies of believers are bringing up in their midst this evil and many other idolatries and wickednesses daily. it is 'vexing' to the ones yahweh calls to himself and calls them righteous.(like lot in sodom).

Calm down and leave it in God's hands amen. No need to fight about it.
