Okay..So I'm using a website to create my own country. It's a very Moralistic country.
My question is..should certain immoral things done by people be punished by law..?
For example: Fornication. So far in my country, it's Illegal - however, it isn't exactly Punishable by Law.
But Adultery for example, committing fornication while being Married is indeed punishable by Law in my country. Those who do so will face a large fine and depending on how bad it was, you may be sent to jail.
Jail / prison is also considered a mental rehabilitation for criminals. We don't just send them there to do work, and expect them to be perfectly normal once their time is up - we (Try to) help them out mentally to try our best to make sure they're mentally stable to try their best not commit severe crimes ever again.
But back to the law stuff, the reason why Fornication isn't punishable by law is because it doesn't severely physically or mentally harm anyone. It's bad and immoral spiritually, however, it doesn't harm anyone. It harms the individuals Spiritually, but that's Their choice - not the Government's choice.
You see, we even teach proper manners of marriage and relationships within high schools and career-educational schools (similar to college in RL..) So if individuals decide to fornicate regardless of what we teach them spiritually, that's Their responsibility and problem - not the Government's, as we tried our best to convince those to do right morally and spiritually.
Adultery harms the loving spouse who's married. It can severely harm the spouse mentally and possibly physically because they can become ill due to their mental pain. Therefore, it is punishable by law.
My country feels that moral matters are a personal responsibility. If those morals of one, two or a group of individuals severely injures or does wrong to anyone psychically, emotionally and mentally, Then the government and it's governmental authorities will step in and stop who and / or whatever's causing it.
..is that okay? Or wrong? Should immoral things be punishable by law, like how they used to be in the Old testament?
...honestly, in my heart...I feel that no one should be punished by Death, like they were in the Old testament Unless they're a huge threat to the country...So that isn't much of an option...
Should immoral things that literally do not do any physical, mental or emotional damage be punishable by law?
*if you have any questions about my "country", feel free to ask. However, if you do not agree with what I explain within answer - I am sorry, and Please do not attempt to start an harsh argument because it Will be ignored.
