The idea of seeking after a sign before one believes is not recommended but is opposed every time. No sign gifts as that seen . Sign are for natural man this includes the sign of healing
We walk by the faith that comes from hearing God having not received the promise of our new bodies, which we will. (Hebrews11:39-40
We look to things not seen the eternal, not the thing seen, the temporal. Walking by sight destroys the faith principle as a law of faith.
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Heb 4:1
When men do not mix the faith of Christ that comes from hearing Christ in what they hear or see, Men will seek after what their eyes see .( Instant gratification the cause of the fall.).
In Acts 14 God instructed Paul by faith to give a demonstration of the unseen Spirit of Christ working in both men to both will and do His good pleasure God knew who to heal and who he would send as a demonstration of that not seen “ the power to heal” .
Neither Paul nor the man healed understood what a imputed righteousness was until the man obeyed the word of God to walk. I think they both leaped for Joy knowing it was God working in them .
It would begin with the hearing of faith the preaching of gospel
They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about: And there they preached the gospel. And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked: The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,
Not yet healed.
The Holy Spirit revealed to Paul by the hearing of faith that the man was given the faith to believe God through the gospel, The sign that he did believe when Christ puts his words on Paul’s lips “Stand upright on thy feet”. And he leaped and walked, it followed showing he believed
Act 14:10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.
I would think they both leaped for joy for one another. In that way all spiritual gifts not seen are two fold held together by the same “mutual faith” of Christ, it comes by hearing what the Spirit says to men as it does us the church..
A Good example how that mutual faith does work in two in Romans 1 ....offer it after this Acts 14 offering..
And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. Act 14:11-13
The sign of renting their clothes below was a sign to those rebels who did not mix faith in what they saw or heard. The idea of an outward sign gift by the hands /will of man .....makes men god’s in the likeness of men .
Act 14:14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,
The work of the gospel according to the faith of Christ, provided the mutual work of Christ working in them to both will and do His good pleasure ..
Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith (Christ’s) both of you and me.Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Rom 1:10-16
