The Fried Dried Fish
Date of Writing: January 20, 2014
I was going out one early morning to have breakfast. I was thinking where I would eat that day and what food will I choose. Then, I spotted a little store beside the road. It has a rectangular glass where food was displayed. There! I saw a yummy, crunchy, newly fried dried fish. I couldn’t resist. I turned right and went straight to the store along the sidewalk. I settled myself in a stool and ordered, of course, the yummy, crunchy, newly fried dried fish. It is still hot! I ordered one cup of rice and a cup of chocolate milk, too. That would complete my breakfast.
I savory ate the yummy, crunchy, fried, dried fish. Tasting the crunchy saltiness of it, I frugally and slowly ate. I intended to eat only half of it with a cup of rice. But the one cup of rice wasn’t enough! So I ordered another one cup. Still frugally eating the fried dried fish, I managed to get very small portion from the other half of the fried dried fish. The fried dried fish was Php 20.00, the cup of rice was Php 10.00 and the chocolate milk was Php 10.00. I had eaten two cups! Two cups! The yummy, crunchy, fried, dried fish enhanced my appetite! And yet, I still want to taste the cooked banana worth Php 10.00 for 3 pieces. I consumed 2 pieces of the cooked bananas. I placed in the plastic bag the excess banana, along with the other half of the fried dried fish. I paid a total amount of Php 60.00 for that meal. “Quite expensive for a breakfast”, I thought. But well, I still have other half of fried dried fish for lunch.
Came lunchtime. I went out again bringing my other half of the fried dried fish along with my empty container of water. I ordered one rice and vegetable. One order of vegetable is Php 25.00 and one cup of rice is Php 10.00. Hmmm… I still have my other half of the fried dried fish! I settled comfortably in one corner and slowly, savory and frugally started to eat my food along with my other half of the fried dried fish. I choose to eat only one-fourth of my fried dried fish. The dried fish is now soaked with vinegar making it taste better due to the combination of sour and salty taste. I wanted to eat more but, “Hey!” I told myself, “You still have for dinner”. After forcefully stopping myself from eating the yummy, not crunchy anymore, fried, dried fish; I took a plastic cellophane from the counter and placed in there my one-fourth of the fried dried fish. I got water and happily head back home bringing my one-fourth fried dried fish.
Came evening. I was heading out again. This time for dinner. Half way towards the restaurant, I remember my one-fourth of the fried, dried fish. I went back to my room and looked for my yummy, not-crunchy-anymore, fried, dried fish. “I placed it somewhere here”, I thought to myself. But it’s nowhere to be found! I looked outside the room. There lay the plastic cellophane that was used to contain my yummy, not-crunchy-anymore, fried, dried fish.
The cat found it yummy too!
