Good message Just-me,
Jesus answered each temptation with the word, (His word.) Most definitely a great example for all of us, and another reason to be in the word prayerfully studying, so that we can answer too.
The fear of the Lord is an great topic too!
One of the passages that stood out at me early on in my own studies is this:
Exodus 20:19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
Exodus 20:20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. (KJV)
Exodus 20:20 Moshe answered the people, "Don't be afraid, because God has come only to test you and make you fear him, so that you won't commit sins." (CJB)
That is an interesting verse, don't fear even though there is fear....the fear that keeps a person from sinning.
There are so many examples in the bible about the fear of God.
I've heard some say that the fear of the Lord is reverence, but I believe it's more than that.
In the account of Moses at the burning bush, it says:
Exodus 3:6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
Hebrews 12:21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake)
This also brings to mind Elijah when he hid in the cave on the mountain. He was afraid . (1 Kings 19)
1 Kings 19:10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
The example of Elijah goes along with these passages:
Psalms 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Hebrews 13:6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
Some other examples of the "fear of the LORD" in the scriptures would be Isaiah,
Isaiah 6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
In the presence of God, no unrepentant sin is hidden, not even from us. I know that God knows our hearts, but in His presence, as with Isaiah, all of these things would be very evident to us like a light suddenly shining in a dark room.
Even so, like Isaiah when he feared and confessed, "Woe is me, I am a man of unclean lips":
Isaiah 6:6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
Isaiah 6:7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
Even the disciples when Jesus calmed the sea:
Mark 4:41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
Interestingly, Jesus asked them just before that response:
Mark 4:40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
There are many more examples of different kinds of "fear" in the scriptures. I'll end this message here and encourage others to study it out if you haven't already done so.
