I think a big part of what was driving my addiction was rejection and loneliness
Rejection leads to loneliness and loneliness to addiction. It's a vicious circle.

Addiction takes on many sources. Not just the physical but the mental as well.

We have a great healer, we just need to trust in him. No matter how long it takes.

just be like Jacob, I'm hanging on to get your blessing for me

I want His healing so bad
The Parable of the Lost Sheep
15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

invariably, it comes down our ability to make a 'choice', which we all must do...
unfortunately, so many choose the wrong one without ever considering the right one...

satanic influence in this 'fallen-world' is so very prevalent...

Hello - Janaye -

God will help you with His will for you in this need if you will to seek Him first above your own understanding. He is patently waiting for you to give up all your options here within yourself, and seek Him instead of just the answer - first!

Are you willing to do this? Ask yourself, "God knows I am in this spot, what do I have to lose in surrendering all of my life to Him?" He promises to show you himself, and to prosper you and not harm you while He shows you how to cross from death to life and live in it......but He isn't wanting you to just give up bad habits. This bad habit is an investment only in death, why would you want that? You wouldn't...so someone is also evil inside misrepresenting God, the evil one. So, this is also about practicing your faith..in righteousness with all of your strength.

He wants you first to give your life over fully to Him, so He can show you why you won't like the habit anymore thru divine revelations. Thru the transformation of your mind. He will have you see things differently, completely differently, in other words; which will change your life as He also empowers you and fights with you to conquer these strongholds. He is the answer to your addiction, based on a new relationship with Him, wholly set in place by what Jesus has done on a Cross.

The Cross is not the cross of a man, but the Cross of God, and it can never be fully comprehended through human experience. The Cross is God exhibiting His nature. It is the gate through which any and every individual can enter into oneness with God. But it is not a gate we pass right through; it is one where we abide in the life that is found there.

The heart of salvation is the Cross of Christ. The reason salvation is so easy to obtain is that it cost God so much. The Cross was the place where God and sinful man merged with a tremendous collision and where the way to life was opened. But all the cost and pain of the collision was absorbed by the heart of God.

I understand there is nothing, naturally speaking, that makes us lose heart quicker than decay. In bodily beauty, of natural life, of friendships, of associations, all these things make a person lose heart; but Paul in the Bible says, When we are trusting in Jesus Christ these things do not find us discouraged. Light comes thru them. You first need to see your habit for what it really is.....sin. And then you can see the Eternal investments as the best over the sentence of sin which is death as the only option of hope in happiness and Joy and Salvation.

I will pray for you, in all ways, and for His purposes and intentions here to be seen glorified as you begin to surrender and live towards His immeasurable love for you. You are loved here as well, and if we can help, in anyway let us know and we will be there for you ok? My name is Dan, it has been a pleasure hearing you reach out in honesty, in trying to find answers (even His answers) that work. But it will work His way, not our way, so slow down and listen to Him and He will be there ready to love and speak; but He is calling you to a crossroads in life, prepare yourself to yield your life all to Him.

Also, take the fight to satan, you must offer your mind to Christ, and your body to Christ volitionally. So, as these thoughts evade or cross your thoughts, boldly stand on His Word and quote out loud to him: "....Not a hint of sexual immorality satan, not a hint!...You back on off! I am the Lord's and you have no grounds to be in my mind, or body! I claim all things of my mind to be God's."

Obedience is a funny thing, when we fear satan we fear many things satan endeavors to unnerve us with. But if we fear God we fear nothing else. If we have fallen to temptation once in this area Satan comes back time and time again stronger and more expectant and quickly to develop a stronghold, knowing you are weak and doubtful of God, decide to be strong in your obedience and in your mind to God - simply don't let satan have any more ground, and eradicate the ground he currently has by God's Authority which He has willed you to use; and which satan must abide by..

For in Christ if you claim Gods ground in your mind and body and stand with God in obedience to it... satan must depart. And once, then you obey, you will have more trust in the power of God to usurp the ground satan had claimed and was working on to grip. Satan cannot stand in the room if you claim yourself to God and obey. Stand firmly on the ground God has rightfully given you. But also realize sometimes as you live by the spirit and not the flesh, God will direct you to sometimes stand and not move, other times He will have you stand by fleeing the environment as well. This is not recognizing satan's power this is recognizing God's answer in power.

God then is whom satan is facing, and that will be when the three steps forward two steps back stops in an ebb and flow of high emotions and despair. And you will be testifying to the fact, "it wasn't me honest! You should have seen me trying, it was a mess, but when I surrendered it all to God and realized and concluded I want to obey Him for the world has a death sentence and will never be saved, so I realized I can't allow myself to invest in death any longer (what was i thinking?) and now must do whatever God requires of my effort in faith to Him so I will be investing in Eternal things and not death. This helped me pay the cost of obedience, and forced satan to leave, for God is under control of all things and is faithful to His Saints; for when I am tempted He provided a way out so I could stand up under it. And He promises to do it again for me, as necessary. As I resolve to obey Him, as well, as I determine to guard my heart and mind placing it under His directives daily, I have grown powerfully strong where once I was weak, and He deserves the glory for it!"

And someone like me will come along and say, "You are living a righteous life, and you have shown His glory in your life which has encouraged me, too also, live a righteous life." You will have an answer while really noticing more the depth and width of His love in the answer.

Just like Bill say, many addictions start with the mind, change the mind, and do away with the addiction.

Maybe your environment is contributing to your current state,a change of environment may help.

I moved 1000 mile away to get away from all the folk that I grew up with because they was negatively effecting me which fed my addiction.

I'm beating my addiction you can also.

You don't have to go anywhere to change your state of mind you just need inclination and resolve.

"Addiction" does not mean "Impossible to overcome." "I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me." I quit smoking by setting a timer every time I was tempted, I had to at least wait until the timer went off. I doubled the time at each temptation, starting with one minute. I could hold off for 60 seconds. Then two minutes next time, no big deal. Four minutes the next time, eight, sixteen, until minutes started turning into hours, days, weeks, months, even years.

What happened was I got involved with something else by the time the timer went off, and the temptation had past. It's now been years, and I can confidently say that I will never smoke another cigarette for the rest of eternity. If you can't quit sinning instantly, then at least quit slowly.

The Person I do go to that I trust completely is Jesus Christ and because He is in me and is with me always, He can help me walk me through this valley of death as my Good Shepherd, leading me away from temptation and delivering me from the evil one.

I had been under my commitment to follow Christ doing the best I can in following Him. It wasn't until I made a covenant with my mouth not to cuss any more and I was worse than I ever was before the next day, the Lord taught me that the reason He was not helping me to keep my covenant with my mouth because I told Him I was going to do it when I made that covenant. He taught me that He made THE Covenant and that He was going to do it. All He had asked of me was to believe in Him. And so He set me free from that covenant with my mouth not to cuss and eventually set me free from keeping my commitment to follow Him to rest in Him as my Good Shepherd that He will help me to follow Him.

He lets me know when I am sowing to the flesh to get rid of it or walk away or think on good things, as well as get rid of any provision for the flesh that fulfills the lust thereof.

Lust is not love; it can never be love when it is selfish and seeks its own gain. Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and so what we sow towards the flesh in, we are defiling the temple of God, and are at risk of reaping corruption, and thus being brought into bondage. Even the pride of life is of the world, and society raised us to look on the outward appearance and sex appeal as the level of acceptance in society, tempting us all for that level of acceptance from others as well as TO others, but the love of the Father is not in them. My need of Jesus to wake up to this, as well as counting on Him all the time to walk me thru this valley of death as He is with me always is the only hope you & I have in overcoming the things of this world.

1 John 2:[SUP]15 [/SUP]Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.[SUP]16 [/SUP]For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.[SUP]17 [/SUP]And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

So may these scripture help you to believe in Him & His promises to you that He will help you overcome and walk in the light with the Father & the Son in fellowship with Him all the time.

1 John 3:[SUP]3 [/SUP]And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure....[SUP]8 [/SUP]He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Philippians 1:[SUP]6 [/SUP]Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:....[SUP]11 [/SUP]Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

2 Timothy 4:[SUP]18 [/SUP]And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Romans 13:[SUP]13 [/SUP]Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.[SUP]14 [/SUP]But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

1 Corinthians 10:[SUP]12 [/SUP]Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.[SUP]13 [/SUP]There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Jude 1:[SUP]24 [/SUP]Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,[SUP]25 [/SUP]To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:[SUP]6 [/SUP]But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Philippians 4:[SUP]6 [/SUP]Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.[SUP]7 [/SUP]And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.[SUP]8 [/SUP]Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.[SUP]9 [/SUP]Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

I don't have anyone I trust to be accountable to
Yes, you do.
"Accountability" to other human beings is one of the biggest jokes we play on ourselves.
You have two that you are accountable to....... yourself and Jesus.

There IS an answer. When you finally fail at enough that you think you are ready, PM me.

My question is this when i am having a hard time and really want to give into my addiction what do i do?
Go for a run or a walk, until you're completely exhausted. It helps, and if you can't do that, turn on some music and dance until you're done and dusted. Your mind needs to be preoccupied with things that matter, get a hobby that you can turn to. Hope you can fight this urge.

For me, it took a long time for me to over come.e addiction. Mine wasn't looking at porn, it was being porn. Here's some encouragement, set backs are ok, as long as the general movement of our lives is forward. Jesus changed who I was. And when we have a relationship with him, we are a new creation in Christ. You are going to always have to work on it, until it is completely gone. But that's God's promise in Matthew 7: 7. Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened.... These are all on us, these are actions that we must take. My friend , you will overcome. Be patient, don't condemn, God still loves you. With his help, all things are possible. Pm me anytime if you need to talk. peace :)

Good post.

I think what really helped me in my gambling addiction was when I came to realise or should I say the Holy Spirit setttled in my heart how much God actually loves me.

Because I had this addiction (unfortunately so have many generations of my ancestors) the guilt consumed me and all I could see was this addiction. I pleaded for years for deliverance from this.

As it didn't seem to happen then I assumed that God didn't love me, he only did if I didn't gamble.
So I lived a life in a revolving door.

When I started to understand who I am in Christ and what I mean to God and actually claimed that my gambling addiction was healed straight away. In 7 years I have not even has an urge.

There is power and healing in the name of Jesus.

The man who loves God is a man who is living a righteous life! .. AMEN Brother!

The righteous man is the one whose inner intention is clearly revealed in his inner intention; there is no duplicity, no internal hypocrisy. And the beauty is, as you described, is He simply loves us along life's way, always going onward and upward, even if it takes 7 years, or 10, or whatever...

Like Paul says, "Not that I have already obtained all this,or that I have already been made perfect but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. ...If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing our of selfish ambition or vain conceit...your attitude should be the same of that of Christ Jesus...He humbled Himself and became obedient - even to death on a Cross. Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place." (Philippians (sectioned)).

"The God of Our Lord Jesus Christ, ...raised Him from the dead, and made Him to sit at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all..." (Ephesians 1:17-21). "And raised US up with Him, and made US to sit WITH HIM in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus: ....for grace have ye been saved thru faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, that no man should glory." (Ephesians 2:6-9).

That was a great testimony, thru your transparency you have allowed God to be glorified - AMEN! (Let it be so). :)..

Ironically, the growing up in Christ process comes to an interesting end doesn't it? Any fool can insist on his rights, and any devil will see that he gets them; but the Sermon on the Mount means that the only right His Children (who believe and receive Him), will insist on is the right to give up his rights. Smile.
