Hey Everyone,
Just for a bit of fun...
Some of my favorite threads here in our beloved Singles Forum are the polls, and there have been some really excellent ones written in the past (Jullianna and Zeroturbulence come to mind... ... Sorry if I've forgotten any of our other great poll authors out there but I tend to always gravitate toward any new thread I see with a poll.)
I like polls because I find the answers sometimes surprising... and more revealing... than just a general post. The main reason I started writing polls myself is because when chatting with some other users, I found that many wanted to answer the threads, but were either shy, embarrassed, did not want to make a public post about themselves, or did not know how to answer a thread in written words (some are more blessed at speaking or drawing than writing.)
I like the fact that the polls help reach out to our "silent" minority (or majority) of readers who would otherwise choose not to answer. I always try to make my polls anonymous and multiple choice, so you can choose as many answers as you feel apply.
Now of course, I love reading what people have experienced and want to share, so I like both a poll answer AND a post. Yup, I'm just greedy like that.
But if one doesn't want to make a regular post... clicking a few choices for a poll is just fine.
I DO find it funny though, that some people will have all kinds of "helpful" advice (some of it really IS helpful... and some of it... is really... well. Let's just say, I try to incorporate ALL feedback into writing a better thread or poll next time. ) And usually, the negative feedback comes from those who, ironically, never write polls themselves. If someone does have negative things to say about an idea, all I ask is that you please try writing a poll for yourself and then let me know so we can compare notes on what worked and what did not. I learn so much from the experiences that others are willing to share.
So just for a bit of fun... I thought a Poll That Pokes Fun At Polls might be mildly entertaining. And, if you've never tried, I would like to encourage you to try writing your own poll sometime as well!! It's actually a lot of fun, I promise! I'm sure many of you out there have some fantastic ideas--why not give it a go, even if it's just a simple "yes", "no", or "maybe". Many of us here would be more than happy to help you if you have questions. I often wonder if many readers out there would love to post their own ideas but just need a little help in trying for that first time.
Why not give it a try?
Heck, I may even include that as one of the anonymous multiple choice answers.
(Please feel free to post any thoughts as well... I'd like to dedicate this thread to writing threads and polls in general... Do you have some tips for writing threads and polls? Feedback for your favorite or not so favorite ideas? Would you like to try writing something here but aren't sure how? Do you have an idea but aren't sure how to turn it into a thread or poll for the forum? Share your questions and comments here! )
