Depends on the severity of the anxiety. When mine was at it's worst i still went to work. But work was actually a help for me as i was living out of my car at the time, so getting off work made me have anxiety attacks.
But a friend of mine had such bad anxiety she didn't work for 2 years. She had other issues that fed her anxiety, though, so i'm doubtful you will be that bad.
I'm not sure of the availability of things like this over there, but if possible try looking in stores that sell vitamins and natural products, health food stores. Look for Gaba and Kava Kava. Both are natural supplements known to aid in reducing anxiety. It might be enough to help you get through the week till your appointment. They aren't as potent as pharmaceuticals but should help still.
Glad you were quick to set up the appointment. It gives you a real chance to get past this quicker. Just keep in mind, once you have anxiety, you can be prone to it the rest of your life. So learning to cope with stress and also learning to recognize anxiety will go a long way in helping you minimize it in the future.
