I
After attending an Arts program where there were a good bit of Creative Writers, a lot of which took up Slam Poetry, I felt the urge to try writing a poem of my own. I've seen some Christian slam poetry as well, and it was really inspiring. So I put some thoughts I've had recently into a nicer flow, so yeah. It's been a long time since I've written any type of poetry.
Pride
Pride, what really blinds our eyes,
What causes us to despise,
The realization of how we really are inside,
What makes us think we’re okay to hide
From the truth that threatens our chance at true life.
What causes us to fill our words with lies,
Makes us only accept what we view as the answer to
“How” and “Why”
Fools us with saying
“Oh, I can get by.”
Or
“Stop trying to change me, I’m just fine.”
Persuades us to argue “No, it’s my life.”
And “It’s not His choice, it’s mine.”
Makes us greedy and angry
When we dare to say “The glory is mine.”
Deceits us into believing that we deserve all the praise,
Rather than He who created every single day.
Fills us with a foolish desire to think we can in one way out-beat
The One who can end it all in one blink
But when we deny Pride,
And say “Oh, no no no.”
We will be on the right track of where to go,
We’ll have a new mind,
A new dream,
And a greater respect for all the things unseen,
But the important thing we then know,
Is that all of the praises,
To Him they go.
