I have always loved blue. A friend of mine in junior high liked blue. Up till then, I thought I was obligated as a girl to like pink. That freed me to like blue for the next 50+ years.
My house that I built and decorated in Alberta was blue. When I say blue, I mean blue! The outside, the walls, the carpets, and a lot of the decorations including towels, pillows, and furniture. My husband grew to dislike it, and when we went to sell, our real estate agent told us to paint the walls a neutral colour, and add splashes of colour everywhere.
So hubby painted, and I redecorated. I did like the grey walls, I confess, and it was nice to see purple and yellow, and reds and pinks etc as splashes. My husband thought we wouldn't sell because the carpets were still blue, but we found a woman who loved blue, and she bought it!
We bought a lovely new home overlooking the lake and mountains in BC. Hubby promised to paint it that nice colour of gray, because this house is painted orange, pastel brown, and yellow. I could not hate it more. To say nothing of the fact that someone put in royal blue countertops in the kitchen. I like blue, but with the wall colours, it is terrrible! So, going on three years, hubby told me he was looking at 5 gallon containers of paint today. So hopefully one day?
As far as red, when my hair was dark brown with red highlites, I looked really good in red. Now that I am "silver" I do look better with soft blue colours like light blue, periwinkle and pale turquoises. And I also look better with silver jewellry, or, as I like to buy it "white' gold. It goes well with the blues.
