This is soo good!

Jesus is my Sabbath rest. He is with me every day :)
--------------------
The key to understanding how Jesus is our Sabbath rest is the Hebrew word sabat, which means "to rest or stop or cease from work." The origin of the Sabbath goes back to Creation. After creating the heavens and the earth in six days, God "rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made" (Genesis 2:2).

This doesn’t mean that God was tired and needed a rest. We know that God is omnipotent, literally "all-powerful." He has all the power in the universe, He never tires, and His most arduous expenditure of energy does not diminish His power one bit. So, what does it mean that God rested on the seventh day? Simply that He stopped what He was doing. He ceased from His labors. This is important in understanding the establishment of the Sabbath day and the role of Christ as our Sabbath rest.

God used the example of His resting on the seventh day of Creation to establish the principle of the Sabbath day rest for His people. In
Exodus 20:8-11 and Deuteronomy 5:12-15, God gave the Israelites the fourth of His Ten Commandments. They were to "remember" the Sabbath day and "keep it holy." One day out of every seven, they were to rest from their labors and give the same day of rest to their servants and animals. This was not just a physical rest, but a cessation of laboring. Whatever work they were engaged in was to stop for a full day each week. The Sabbath day was established so the people would rest from their labors, only to begin again after a one-day rest.

The various elements of the Sabbath symbolized the coming of the Messiah, who would provide a permanent rest for His people. Once again the example of resting from our labors comes into play. With the establishment of the Old Testament Law, the Jews were constantly "laboring" to make themselves acceptable to God. Their labors included trying to obey a myriad of do’s and don’ts of the ceremonial law, the Temple law, the civil law, etc. Of course they couldn’t possibly keep all those laws, so God provided an array of sin offerings and sacrifices so they could come to Him for forgiveness and restore fellowship with Him, but only temporarily.

Just as they began their physical labors after a one-day rest, so, too, did they have to continue to offer sacrifices.
Hebrews 10:1 tells us that the law "can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship." But these sacrifices were offered in anticipation of the ultimate sacrifice of Christ on the cross, who "after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right of God" (Hebrews 10:12).

Just as He rested after performing the ultimate sacrifice, He sat down and rested—ceased from His labor of atonement because there was nothing more to be done, ever. Because of what He did, we no longer have to "labor" in law-keeping in order to be justified in the sight of God. Jesus was sent so that we might rest in God and in what He has provided.

Another element of the Sabbath day rest which God instituted as a foreshadowing of our complete rest in Christ is that He blessed it, sanctified it, and made it holy. Here again we see the symbol of Christ as our Sabbath rest—the holy, perfect Son of God who sanctifies and makes holy all who believe in Him. God sanctified Christ, just as He sanctified the Sabbath day, and sent Him into the world (
John 10:36) to be our sacrifice for sin.

In Him we find complete rest from the labors of our self-effort, because He alone is holy and righteous. "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" (
2 Corinthians 5:21). We can now cease from our spiritual labors and rest in Him, not just one day a week, but always.

Jesus can be our Sabbath rest in part because He is "Lord of the Sabbath" (
Matthew 12:8). As God incarnate, He decides the true meaning of the Sabbath because He created it, and He is our Sabbath rest in the flesh. When the Pharisees criticized Him for healing on the Sabbath, Jesus reminded them that even they, sinful as they were, would not hesitate to pull a sheep out of a pit on the Sabbath.

Because He came to seek and save His sheep who would hear His voice (
John 10:3,27) and enter into the Sabbath rest He provided by paying for their sins, He could break the Sabbath rules. He told the Pharisees that people are more important than sheep and the salvation He provided was more important than rules.

By saying,
"The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath" (Mark 2:27), Jesus was restating the principle that the Sabbath rest was instituted to relieve man of his labors, just as He came to relieve us of our attempting to achieve salvation by our works. We no longer rest for only one day, but forever cease our laboring to attain God’s favor. Jesus is our rest from works now, just as He is the door to heaven, where we will rest in Him forever.

Hebrews 4 is the definitive passage regarding Jesus as our Sabbath rest. The writer to the Hebrews exhorts his readers to “enter in” to the Sabbath rest provided by Christ. After three chapters of telling them that Jesus is superior to the angels and that He is our Apostle and High Priest, he pleads with them to not harden their hearts against Him, as their fathers hardened their hearts against the Lord in the wilderness. Because of their unbelief, God denied that generation access to the holy land, saying, “They shall not enter into My rest” (Hebrews 3:11).

In the same way, the writer to the Hebrews begs his readers not to make the same mistake by rejecting God’s Sabbath rest in Jesus Christ. “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience” (
Hebrews 4:9–11).

There is no other Sabbath rest besides Jesus. He alone satisfies the requirements of the Law, and He alone provides the sacrifice that atones for sin. He is God’s plan for us to cease from the labor of our own works. We dare not reject this one-and-only Way of salvation (
John 14:6).

God’s reaction to those who choose to reject His plan is seen in
Numbers 15. A man was found gathering sticks on the Sabbath day, in spite of God’s plain commandment to cease from all labor on the Sabbath. This transgression was a known and willful sin, done with unblushing boldness in broad daylight, in open defiance of the divine authority. “Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp’” (verse 35). So it will be to all who reject God’s provision for our Sabbath rest in Christ. “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” (Hebrews 2:3).

In order for anyone to be a Jew by his ascentry, he must be born into the tribe of Judah.

Paul is not.

He is born into the tribe of Benjamin.

If you are using the word, Jewish, as a reference to religion, that is a denomination, it does not apply. Although it has come iinto vogue since the dissolving of the country that was Israel.

When the reference to being a "true Jew" is made by Paul he is refering to what the word Judah means, not to a tribe or a denomination.

A true Jew by the definition of the word and not refering to the tribe, is a person wh praises God. If you wish to learn this for yourself, read varied versions of Pauls description of a true Jew, and you will see he concludes the true Jew is one who praise God.

As concerning thw word Jew, in reference to religion, it is akin to using the word, Christia, as referring to religion. Both are umbrella names for various denominations

Judaism did not exist until the dissolution of Israel which led to aposgtetic teachings.......just as there are now within the Christian denominations.

If anyone is going to use the word, Jew or Jewish, let him know what ti actually means before dropping it.
I am sorry your ignorance is astounding!

The term Jew arises from, and represents, the Southern Kingdom (Judah) as opposed to the Northern Kingdom - Israel (went into captivity and never returned).
The Kingdom of Judah comprised of Judah, some Levites, and surprise, surprise at least part of the tribe of Benjamin.

Paul WAS Jewish by descent, as well as by practice!
To be a Jew one was never limited to just being from the tribe of Judah!

Unfortunately you are being deceived by your own hate for the law and willingness not to keep it.

Act 24:14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, soworship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in thelaw and in the prophets:
Act 24:15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall bea resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

Paul made it clear that he still kept the Torah. If he didn't the Jews had reason to kill him. Every time they accused him they had to make up false allegations or they broke their own law and cursed themselves by plotting to kill him.

God bless friend
Christianity doesn't break Torah.

It just doesn't follow after a carnal commandment.

So, after the way they call heresy, Christianity, we still worship the Father and the Son. We still believe what is written in the law and the prophets.

We just don't follow after it according to our work. More heresy according to judaism.

Hi Cee,
So nice to meet you here. I like some of the things you have posted that I have seen. The post you quoted from the Got questions website is put up to disregard God’s 7[SUP]th[/SUP] Day Sabbath. I like this post below better because it shows the above posts premise is not based on God’s Word. Have you had the chance to consider what is written below? If so maybe you would like to share scriptures and thoughts?

Hi Magenta,

So nice to see you and appreciate you sharing with us. Your post from that website however has already been discussed here and shown to be not from God's Word. The main thing that undoes this post is that the 7th Day Sabbath has its origin as part of the creation week which is a finished work and it was given before the fall of mankind before sin entered the World (Gen 2:1-3). This being the case it is impossible for it to be a shadow of anything at all. All the shadows from the laws of Moses pointing to Jesus were given after the fall of mankind because they were pointing to Jesus which was an unfinished promise. Jesus tells us that he made the Sabbath for mankind. This was the Sabbaths original purpose so the we can meet with the creator especially on the 7th Day of the creation week. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath and commands us to Keep His day Holy (Mark 2:27-28; Ex 20:8-11). We follow Jesus because we love him and this is what he has asked us of us.

Hope that helps some past links are here if you interested to read about it further.

The real Gospel?

Col 2 Sabbaths and Shadows of things to come (1)

Col 2 Sabbaths and Shadows of things to come (2)

Col 2 Sabbath and Shadows of things to come (3)

What is the difference between God's Law and the laws of Moses ?

God's Law and the laws of Moses (1)

God's Law and the laws of Moses (2)

We all as christians need to consider everyday if we are following God or not in our daily lives. Jesus tells us that we are not following him if we put man made traditions in place of the Word of God (please read Matt 15:3-9). Sunday worship is a man made tradition that is a teaching of man and many have been decieved into following this as a day of Worship in place of the 7th Day Sabbath that God has commanded us to follow. The main questions each of us needs to ask ourselves is; Should I believe and follow God's Word or should I follow the teachings and traditions of man?

Something for you to think about if you have some time; Please show me one scripture from God's Word that answers even one question below? (you don't need to show me just do it for yourself asking Jesus and study God's Word for yourself)

The Sabbath (seventh day) was ever changed from the seventh to the first day of the week?

Where we are told to keep the first day of the week holy?

Where the first day of the week (Sunday) is ever called a holy day?

That says that Jesus ever kept the first day (Sunday)?

That tells us to keep the first day in honour of the resurrection of Christ?

Where the first day is ever given any sacred name?

That affirms that any of the apostles ever kept the first day as the Sabbath?

From any apostolic writings that authorizes Sunday observance as the Sabbath of God?

Where we are told not to work on the first day of the week?

That says the seventh day is no longer God's Sabbath day?

That says the seventh day Sabbath is ABOLISHED?

Where the apostles ever taught any convert to keep the first day of the week as a Sabbath?

Where the first day was ever appointed to be kept as the Lord's Day?

Where the first day of the week is ever called the Lord's Day?

That says that the first day of the week was ever sanctified and hallowed as a day of rest?

That says that the Father or the Son (Jesus) rested on the first day of the week?

That says that Jesus, Paul or any other of the apostles taught anyone to observe the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

That calls the seventh day the “Jewish Sabbath” or one text that calls Sunday the “Christian Sabbath”?

Telling man to keep the first day of the week holy or to worship or rest on the first day of the week?

Authorizing anyone to set aside God's Sabbath and observe any other day?

Showing any of the apostles keeping the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

Authorizing someone to set aside the fourth Commandment and observe any other day of the week?

Where any apostle taught us to keep the first day of the week as the Sabbath?

Declaring that the seventh day is no longer the Eternal Sabbath day?

Where Sunday is now appointed to be kept as the New Testament Sabbath or holy day?

Hope this is helpful and gives you something to think about.

God bless

Without trying to argue about the small stuff, have you ever took the time out to actually read the Torah? You will be amazed at how many you already do that is Torah. God is not unjust (I know you never said He is :) ) and He will not burden us with something we can't do. :)

I am not a Jew or following Judaism. I am a Boer from Africa. I don't have an identity crisis but I am interested in obeying God.

I am also sure that you keep 9 of the 10 commandments because they are actually obvious, the 10th one is the stumbling stone for many (me included).

God bless friends

When reading how the word, Jew, is used always do it in context. There are times when Paul is refering to the believers in Judah who have not come to Jesus Christ, but when he, of the tribe of Benjamin, says he is a Jew, he is not refering to the region of Judah nor to being of the tribe, his reference is to being a "praiser of Yahweh."
Many words in the Bible are not translated.

Again, to learn with more understanding, read what Paul teaches on being a true Jew.........

I hear you!

whatever Paul means by Jew, he means that here

GALATIANS 2:14 why do you compel the Gentiles to live as

the Jews

do?

Child, the word, Jew, comes from Judah. Yes, it is one of the Twelve Tribes, yes, it is the name of the southern Kingdom after Israel was divided in two, but th e word Judah comes from when Leah gave birth to Judah.

Shen named his so and declared (the meaning of his name) I will now prais Yahweh, she continued saying because he has given me a man child.

If it is ignorant to learn what the words of the Bible will translate to fully, than I am definetly very ignorant.

If it is ignorant to declare words untranslated from the Bible as complete, well, you do the math.

Jesus Christ teaches if we believe He is teh Son of teh Living God we are saved. Now, although the word, grace, is not used here, you cannot find more elsewhere.

Jesus Christ teaches the law is not obsolete, but He does go to great lengths to explain how it is today. I understand Him because I have prayed and studied His words, and it is freedom.

Sual, called Paul, is considered by many as the greatest Apostel, yet he does not figure as one of the Twelve.

Paul is given credit by historians and other scholars as having elevated the fiath of Abraham as taught by Christ as a true religion, a dubious distinction at best.

Paul does decry teaching any other gospel than That of Jesus Christ for there is no other.

Yet it is mainly Paul' writings which cause contentions within the Body of Christ.

Paul is also given all credit for having introduced the grace only manner of thinking.

Jesus only said if we believe Him, we are saved. Apparently His words are not sufficient for many of the most scholarly believers who come into this forum.

Keep in mind all the wisdom of mankind never gave knowledge of God, only God does this.

it is probably just a linguistic problem.

They spoke Aramaic in those days, so I am sure they had a word for someone from the tribe of Judah, and another one for someone from the territory of Judah. It probably doesn't come out well in the Greek.

As Jaume says, it is usually context driven as to what is really meant

Having read the Word in Hebrew, minus a few of the Epistles, I am familiar with Aramaic in that parts of the Word remain in Aramaic, I believe Ezra and half of Daniel with an occasion word here and there in Aramaic.

They are almost as similar as is US English and UK English (England that is), or Castillano in Spain and in most South American countries.

Transiterated the Jews would be called Yahudim, and the Kingdom Yahudah just as the Tribal Name.

Praise God! Jesus teaches if we but believe He is the Son of the Living God we are saved.

I said this before but oh, how it is worth repeating! You cannot have more grace that his.

Jesus says the law is not obsolete! That means there is a bit of mystery to what it is now, live with it.

Do not teach against the law, or are you afraid if you obey God you will lose faith?

Jesus teaches when we apply the law to include mercy, justice and faith, or it is not being understood. I understand this, why do you not? Have you heard Jesus.

Our blessed Lord told several people after having learned of Him or received a miracle and more to "sin no more." Now we all know only Jesus Christ was perfect, so this too is a myster, but remember always He said,no one else, that if we believe Who He is, we are saved...........again, how much grace more may we obtain...?

Why bicker about the Sabbathwhen you know it was set by God for all of what we call time? Are you truth unto yourself?

It is true if we read the TAnakh andlearn it by the Holy Spirit we have sufficient knowledge to please God, but the Gospels and Revelation certainly do not hurt aything.

This is not agains the Epistles......I have no fear of studying them, but when I truly want to get to the bottom of what is true, I hear Jesus Christ. It was good enough for the early believers for the first hunred or so years after His visit here.

Jesus did not teach the doctrine of grace as does Paul, but He lived it and was teh example of it for us...bby letting us know if we believe Him we are saved.......I need no more than this, and yes, I believe Him about the law, not a bunch of undecisive, self inflated Bible scholer weaving webs that any with half a mind can do in faovor of one thing or against the same...

Let all who believe Jesus christ hear Jesus Christ. His is the only true voice.

You know, you must take everybody for being fools!

I believe the law and prophets as well - and I know that the law is no longer binding.
And if you want to know what Paul thought about the law then go and read all of Romans!

As a matter of fact I do not "hate" the law...
That is your straw-man.
Legalists may be a different matter!
Calm down friend. I am not trying to provoke you. I never said you are a fool.

If you believe the law, what do you believe about it? :)

I believe that Jesus is the living Torah and that He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

My apology if I upset you. It was not my intention.

God bless

Jaumej..... are you here sharing on the Sabbath day? Are you breaking Sabbath? Before any cast a stone let them learn what the Lord of Sabbath taught.. for is there not much given if we search?

Luke 13

10And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. 11And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. 12And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. 13And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. 14And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. 15The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? 16And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? 17And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

Friends this is a small piece of much Truth that you can learn from the Lord of the Sabbath.

We are at liberty.. if we remember the man collecting sticks was stoned in past times... The Lord allows us to pick corn and eat it..... at liberty to do Good.

o but if a man come and offer you much money to work this day.. it is better to Love GOD and not money so pass up the offer knowing your everlasting life is your treasure.

If a man ask for help this day help him gladly knowing that your Father does good on the Sabbath.

Heavenly Father you are True and good... you are Faithful and wise and mine Words even can not sing your praises enough because I'm but a speck of clay admiring my Gracious Potter and all His Righteous Hands have done.

love you always and forever my Everlasting GOD.

Its funny how people think that if they try to obey what they think the 10 commandments say they think they obey God.

If trying to obey your understanding of the 10 commandments was obedience to God why can't we be Righteous according to our obedience like Christ was with His?

Obviously, if you obey God you are right with Him, correct?
