Free speech is how you educate people. Silencing free speech is how corrupt governments keep people ignorant. They don't want people to know what is really going on, and question their authority, which is exactly what the Muslims are trying to do. They don't have any authority in the west, and that is why they are committing random acts of terror against newspapers, and beheading journalists. Free speech is a threat to the ISIL "regime". ISIL doesn't want people to report on how horrible they are because then everyone will hate them, and they won't be able to take over. I can't believe people who claim to be Christians are defending Radical Islamists. It makes me think this is really a Jihadist propaganda site. If you don't want people to argue with you, and speak their minds that's too bad because this is a public forum.
Is it fair to say that the right to absolute free speech can exist for the West without us needing to take it to its grotesque extreme just because we can, particularly when its grotesqueness is pointed against the people whom many in the West desire to elevate to Western standards of social freedoms?

It seems disingenuous to campaign for the apparent social-ideological liberation of these people and simultaneously mock and degrade their traditions, cultures and customs. Why would they want reformed to the social level of those who mock them?

sadly, you and folks like you do not.
For a person who is 64, you certainly act like a schoolyard bully.

Can you address the topic without lowering yourself to petty insults and spewing hate?

I tell you what, go a day without directly insulting people's characters with lies on this forum, then try to make a habit of it.

For someone who claims to be a Christian, you break his laws at the slightest provocation.

Matthew 23:10 .) Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 .) But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 .) And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13 .) But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14 .) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15 .) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
16 .) Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
17 .) Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 .) And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
19 .) Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
20 .) Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
21 .) And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
22 .) And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23 .) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24 .) Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25 .) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 .) Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 .) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 .) Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 .) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 .) And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 .) Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 .) Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33 .) Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
34 .) Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
35 .) That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 .) Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
37 .) O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 .) Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
39 .) For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Another thought, why don't all you unbelievers who spread lies about Christ, His Written Word, and Christianity spend an entire day not posting here, and then strive to make a habit of it?

Seems reasonable to me. Unbelievers come here and spread their lies, and when they are called on it, they get their feelings hurt.............Jesus didn't mince words with such as these.............

We don't go to your house and spread manure all over the place, so why do y'all come here and spread manure all over our house? Goodness...............it really, really gets tiring dealing with all the stuff you guys spew out......

I would like to ask two questions.

When is it, according to the Bible, justified to kill or injure someone for speaking against God?

When is it, according to the Koran, justified to kill or injure someone for speaking against Allah?

Well im sorry but free-speech is not nonsense and you cant blame folks for getting killed as the reason more people are being killed. The problem is the killers, not the folks writing comics! Like I said these folks don't need a reason to kill anyone...for you to excuse their murder is really sad.
I did not in any way say the murders of Charlie Hebdo staff was right!

What I said, and which no one in this whole thread is understanding is:

"Innocent Christians in Niger have been killed, their property destroyed, because the world thinks free speech is a more important right than the right to live in peace and safety."

Two more pages since my last comment, and still no one commenting on the topic which is:

"Scores of Churches destroyed.. in Niger." To say nothing of the murders of innocent Christians.

I wish someone would make a free speech thread to go debate whether the right to free speech overrides the right to live in safety.

It sure doesn't for me. Charlie Hebdo inflamed the Muslim world. No, it was not right to murder them. But it is a logical consequence to defaming the morality and religion of the Muslim people.

My point is exactly what has happened in this thread.

People are defending smut and vile pornography, instead of discussing what happened to innocent Christians in Niger, just as the world media has more or less ignored it.

Just so sad that the ideology of free speech is more important than the lives of Christians. Seriously!

I would like to ask two questions.

When is it, according to the Bible, justified to kill or injure someone for speaking against God?

When is it, according to the Koran, justified to kill or injure someone for speaking against Allah?
Bible:

Dueteronomy
If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; 7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; 8 Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: 9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

And:

Leviticus
10 Now an Israelite woman's son, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the people of Israel. And the Israelite woman's son and a man of Israel fought in the camp, 11 and the Israelite woman's son blasphemed theName, and cursed. Then they brought him to Moses. His mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan. 12 And they put him in custody, till the will of the Lord should be clear to them.
13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 14 “Bring out of the camp the one who cursed, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him. 15 And speak to the people of Israel, saying, Whoever curses his God shall bear his sin. 16 Whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him. The sojourner as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.

Koran:

The Koran commands not one single punishment for blasphemy.

Blog: No Penalty for Blasphemy in the Koran
