What is really stupid about Black Friday is this.
In Canada, we are thankful the harvest is over and the crops are in, on the second Monday of October. So this year Oct 12 was our Thanksgiving.
But every store in Canada is bending over backwards to have Black Friday sales. I mean, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving on the Thursday, and we don't get Thursday or Friday off from work. Yet I saw reports of people being furious with BestBuy because their Canadian website broke down at midnight. (Not to worry, some of the shoppers went and bought stuff on-line from Walmart!)
Why did we have to import a sale which in no way, shape or form has a thing to do with Canada?
We do have Boxing Day Sales, the day after Christmas, which have come to resemble the American Black Friday sales. You know, people camping out all night to get ridiculously marked down, but a limited number of items.
So while we do appreciate being neighbours with the US, with the longest unprotected border in the world, will you please take back your Black Friday sales?
Thanks in advance!
