The second amendment became part of the Constitution specifically because the founding fathers were what we would call today "radicals." They DID fight the government and won the right to leave it behind and start their own. Knowing what they knew -- that any government can become a tyranny at any time -- dang right people need guns! Duh now! They did. And they certainly knew what civil unrest was coming in the future because they purposely avoided that argument at that moment. Slavery!
They were not stupid men. They absolutely knew they held off that problem for their lifetime (or not, but at least until the country was its own country.) They saw the writing on the wall because they wrote it!
So, yeah, second amendment is forever a needed amendment. Without it, slavery would remain legal to this day. (We still have slaves, but not legally.)
And, given the last presidential election was between a blowhard and a criminal, I do see, maybe soon, people will become fed up enough to go for second civil war.
I say this knowing I am the person who should never own a gun. Only own a gun if you have purpose for it. Given I don't have the stomach to kill anything with a gun, a gun in my hands is a disaster waiting to happen. (And do not tell me I have the will to kill someone if the situation were just right. I've lived through "the situation was just right" twice, and couldn't. That is a line of BS that everyone has that. And don't think that means I'm a pacifist either. Maming I have no problems with. I went for the crotch hoping for extra Adam's apples on those men.)
If this country breaks out in civil war in my lifetime, or is invaded, I'm likely to die.
But, I am now and will forever be thankful to that second amendment, because we certainly need the ability to take on the government at the right time.
Guns kill. The difference is who is doing the shooting and why. I want my cops and soldiers to kill who they're aiming at in the line of duty. I want hunters to share the venison, squirrels, rabbits, ducks, and geese with me.
I do not want idiots shooting people, but that isn't because there are guns. That's because there are idiots. And more and more idiots because America has been indoctrinating generations of people to believe there is no God, therefore, there is no sanctification of anything, including life and marriage!
