Here is a short devotional that speaks of us being "righteousness-conscious" and not "sin-conscious".
Religion is in the "sin management business" - Christ is in the "righteousness of God making business."
It is the gospel message of which we are not ashamed of. Rom. 1:16-17
In "it" - the gospel - the righteousness of God is revealed.
The term "conscious" simply means - the thoughts our minds think about being aware of things and responding to our surroundings.
Col 3:1-3 says to "set our minds on things above and not on things of the earth". One of the aspects to this truth is agreeing with what God says about us because we are one spirit with the Lord Jesus Christ.
This doesn't mean that we don't know when we are walking in the flesh and doing wrong - it means we are to keep our minds set on Christ and all that He has done. That He has made us righteous because of God's doing. 1 Cor. 1:30
We are to "awake to righteousness and sin not" as Paul says in 1 Cor.
Awake means to "come to one's true self - to sober up to be who we truly are."
Keeping our eyes on Jesus and all that He has already done in His finished work on the cross and resurrection is how we live now. We behold the glory/goodness of the Lord as in a mirror and we see our true selves in Him reflected back. 2 Cor. 3:17-18
This causes transformation by the Holy Spirit to reflect in our outward behavior to manifest what already is in us in Christ and we participate in this with God - for it is God who is at work in us - both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Phil. 2:13
