I played as a professional musician for 7 years just before I got saved. My unwritten job description was to get people as drunk as possible (sell booze!) and if possible, keep fights from breaking out.
I needed to be able to play the current hits and golden oldies. If there was a dance floor, play lots of fast music so people got tired and thirsty and had to drink more!
Some people think bars and nightclubs are about having fun. They are NOT! They are about drunkenness (see Gal 5:21), sexual immorality, (people flirting and shacking up with people they are not married to!), and sadness and grief, as sad and lonely people seek to full the emptiness, with music, liquor and immorality.
The only good that came out of my 7 years of playing, was I learned all the verses of "Amazing Grace" by heart. It was a "show stopper" because people would get quiet and listen. I thought people liked my singing, as at times, people were moved to tears. Some even left! God used Balaam's donkey to convict people, including me!
So no, people should not go to bars, pubs or nightclubs. Their purpose and existence is to fill a hole that should be filled by God.
