Hi

I "upgraded" to Windows 10 and my Realtek High Definition inbuilt mic no longer works on CC :( Has anyone experienced the same problem AND solved it?

Hoping for an early answer as it's either back to Windows 7 or adios CC :(

God bless,
Robbie

Probably the first place to look would be to check and see if you need to download a new driver for your mic that is compatible with Win10.

Found a forum where someone reported the same problem with skype, he too was advised to update the driver (like this):

You have to update your diver, but it's not the driver in "audio inputs and outputs" it's the driver under "sound, video, and game controllers"

1. Run Device Manager
2. scroll down to Sound, video and game controllers
3. single, left click the small arrow to the left. It will expand the "Sound Video, and game controllers"
4. Single click / select your audio controller -- in my case it was "Realtek High Definition Audio"
5. Now you need to tell it to update the software driver. I did this by selecting the 3rd icon in from the right. It's an icon with a small green arrow pointing up.
6. Tell it to "search automatically for driver software" -- Note: you have to be connected to the internet.
7. In my case, it found a new driver which was installed, and then the microphone worked

EDIT, oh, nevermind, guess it didn't help then :p :D

You can try removing the current driver, then reboot the computer. That should allow the native driver to load, which might work.

What's the make and model of your computer?

Thanks, wwjd_kilden, I tried that and it says the driver is the most up todate :(

There's a good chance that Windows will recognize the device and load its own driver. If it doesn't, then you would need to visit Toshiba's support site and look up your model laptop, then get the driver from there. (If they only have up to Windows 8 or 8.1, you can probably get away with either of those, but if only Windows 7 drivers are listed, there's a slimmer chance that will work.)

I can help you with this if you like. I have a toshiba laptop as well and regularly update my realtek audio card...if you can provide the model number (look under the laptop and a white/silver sticker should say satellite L or D followed by numbers....

or within windows click run then type in "dxdiag" without quotes and it will show your beginning of the model number....

Hi, the problem is unresolved. Unfortunately, I have a virus on that laptop which I'm trying to remove! Until I get rid of it I can't make any progress with the microphone issue. I'm currently using a much older laptop to access CC. I will try the mic on this one and see if it works ok.
Thanks for all your help, any further suggestions welcomed and I shall try them once my other laptop is working properly again.
