In Internet Explorer, my favorites links keep going dead. The ones to this site seem to do so a little more often than the others, but it's by no means exclusive. The clock has lost/gained time a couple times as well. I keep updating and scanning the snot out of it and nothing ever shows up. Yet clearly something is amiss. Any ideas?

Windows tech support: Reboot.

If that fails: Reinstall.

Sorry, reflex. Have you looked through your browser settings for browser history options? Your browser history is not eternal - it can be set to "forget" where you went after a few days. You can change those settings.

As for the clock, beats me. Windows should update time automatically when you're online. Check time/date settings to make sure the automatic update option is selected?

Like Lynx said: Your history and cookies will expire/be deleted after a set amount of time. If by "favorite links" you mean the sites you've bookmarked/saved as an actual "favorite," then check to see whether the address has changed. Pages can be moved or deleted at whim, causing your bookmarks to go to an invalid URL.

As for your clock: This could be strictly a software issue. It's possible your computer's CMOS battery is on its last leg, too. How long have you had the computer?

Yes it's the favorites that go dead. I do have it set to clear the history on a regular basis, but that shouldn't cancel out the favorites. And I know that if a web URL changes the favorite will not find the page. A URL change will cause the old favorite to return a 'page not found'. But these are dead, as in you click them and nothing happens. And I doubt Christian Chat changes their url every week, which is about how often this happens. Very strange but then again these things hate me so they may be doing it just to be a nuisance ;)

The battery and the clock! Ah yes I have heard that before and yes it must be getting old. Thanks for refreshing my memory on this!

Oof, yeah that is weird about your favorites. Perhaps that Favorites folder needs rebuilt. You can make a backup of your Favorites folder and then uninstall Internet Explorer (actually you'd just be removing all of the updates to it so it reverts to its "factory" state). From there you can update it again, restore your Favorites, and see what happens. Only other thing that comes to mind is some sort of malware that would cause it.
