Hi

I have an Asus netbook running Lubuntu (Linux distro) and I find that when I log into CC I can't right-click, select the flash settings option, and enable my mic. The menu does appear, but 'Settings' is greyed out. If I boot into Windows 7 on the same netbook, no problem...

Because using Win7 on this netbook is a pain for lots of other reasons (despite it being the OS it came with), I wanted to get my mic working on CC when using Linux, so I did a search of the web and found out that apparently if the flash window is below a certain size, flash automatically disables access to local flash settings, i.e the right-click menu option.

I thought that might have something to do with it and I wondered if I could gain access to the flash settings menu by having the flash bit of the website display in a different size. So I did a bit of trial-and-error and ended up finding out the 'swf' name of the flash section (don't know the proper names as not a tech!), adding it to the URL and then pasting the various settings that usually appear at the end.

By doing this, I not only got the mic to work (settings menu came up fine) but the chatroom automatically resized to my browser, which means I no longer have to use the Firefox zoom settings to see the whole page.

So I'm really pleased that I've got what I want. But I don't want to be seen to be doing anything untoward, hence I'm running this by folk. Is what I'm doing ok?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Glad you got it working right.
While googling I found this may work also,..
There is a solution though. Go to the Global Storage Settings panel and make the changes you need (allowing the site) through there.

Great stuff, thanks Marantha.

Yeah, the Global Settings--all the websites say that and I've tried it and the Global Settings pages do pop up, but they are for changing a load of other stuff, not accepting a webcam/mic.

Actually I read the first paragraph of the OP and thought, "Oh I know how to fix that. Yay, hero time!" Then I kept reading and found out the problem had been solved. :p

Actually I got the mic to work in chat through Flash global settings. Go to Website Privacy Settings, look down at the list of sites already visited, click on Christianchat.com and click Always Allow.

Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Website Privacy Settings panel

But forcing a window resize would work too. Gonna have to try that... Thanks!
Lynx, yes but you don't have the volume adjust, you don't have the reduce echo option, and crucially you can't select which soundcard you're going to use. My mic is plugged into an external soundcard. So yeah, that will work for some but you can't just go to global settings and find the same set of tabs that are in local settings. :)

Oh by the way, the downside to the way I've done it is that I've lost the box to the right that has Bible verses, pics etc.
