I am just wondering what some things mean here at CC.

I have had a friend here who was banned. I know this because we chat off site and they told me so.
When I see their old post and icons it still shows their saying and not "banned" like some do.
When I search for their name in the search box it will not come up unless I type the whole name. then it brings up a list of their posts, but if I try their profile it says "user's profile not available"

I have another friend here who seems to be "missing"
their old posts still show their image and member status.
When I search their name in the search box, again it will not come up unless I type the whole name, and as with the other person it brings up a lists of their posts.
I try viewing their profile and it comes up.

I have other friends here who come up when I name search with no problem, I only type part of a name and they come up.

So, I get why a banned name wouldn't show when typing it in, but the one that seems to be "missing" why doesn't their name come up without typing the whole name? Because most names show up after the first 1 or 2 letters 🤷

There are different types of bans, that may have an effect on how they're viewed by other users, and thus how they function on the site.
I believe there is a ban option that doesn't show publicly, as well, though I believe those are used much less frequently.
As far as the searches I can't say as I don't really ever search for users.
Perhaps follow those people to make getting to their profile easier.

Yes, i have noticed this too and i think it's either a forum setting or a glitch.
There are members who are active, not banned or deleted, but they are not searchable or taggable.
Not sure why but it's either a glitch or a forum setting.

I think how long it has been since a person was active may play a part in whether or not
their name will appear in a list when you start typing their name into the search field,
though I am just guessing at that. And people can be put on temporary time-outs, but
then never come back when that time expires, so their profile would still be active, but
due to time lapsed since their last activity, you would need to type their whole name in
any search to get their post stream. And why you can still see their profile. Again a guess.
And that would explain why it does not say "banned" under their name, also.
