I think a big key in understanding scripture is seeing when the Holy Spirit is working with a group or individual.

The Holy Spirit can be coming 'upon' an individual and indwelling an individual at receiving eternal salvation.

For a group.. the Holy Spirit can be 'in the midst ' and empowering a local church.

I think eternal salvation gets mixed up with group empowerment. So an act like in Pentecost of indwelt believers experiencing the Holy Spirit coming 'upon' them.. many will call this actually eternal salvation being given, or will call it a completion of eternal salvation, where the believers hadn't had the full experience of salvation yet.

Compare Acts with the likes of book of John and it starts to become clear the individual v group workings of the Holy Spirit.
