Good morning! My life group has made it to chapter three of 'If You Want to Walk on Water, you got to get out of the Boat'. In support of that I've written 'Ugg' which I'm sharing with you. Hope it helps in some way, feel free to use if you like...

Ugg
Stranded deeply in the midst of the never-ending chaos of muddling through each day of life struggling to survive, there is seemingly no rest. One simply awakens, then goes about their day performing the tasks that perpetuate their physical existence until the biological cycle of sleep requires coming to a stop. Then the cycle of survival begins and one awakens again and again to continue the process.

But all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. There is much truth to that. Accordingly, most people will make attempts to ‘rise above’ their circumstances and the mundaneness of the labors. This is so there is a niche of time available to pursue that which brings pleasure and gives way for that important relaxation. We all seek room to relax and take a step back from the daily grind.

No matter when or where you are from this applies. For example: there was once a cave man named Ugg. Now Ugg had a busy life and spent every daylight hour hunting for food and every night protecting his family so they would not become food. A very stressful existence.

Even so, there were times that Ugg found lots of food and the survival situation eased up a bit. So Ugg one day decided to use his extra time and energy to become an artist on the wall of the cave. There was a clear picture in his mind of the t-rex that tried to eat him yesterday and he could picture it on the wall over it’s bones. Yes, Ugg won that fight and the family had food for days.

Poor Ugg had the worst time finding the proper mix of materials that would be the right color and all. There was no stores for like two thousand years. So he kept trying until he found just the right mix of berries and tree sap, painted the picture in his mind on the wall, and then followed it with hundreds of others.

The legacy he left was found three thousand years later by someone who marveled over the ingenuity, perseverance, and handiwork of someone stubbornly determined to express what was in his heart.

Aren’t we all just a bit like Ugg? Scurrying around in the attempt to survive and looking for the times when we can express what is in our hearts. To leave a legacy for your children and theirs.

For anyone who has tasted the sweetness of the promises of God and His miraculous workings there is a very clear picture in our minds and hearts. Not a picture that could be painted on a wall, instead a picture of sharing that sweetness.

Each of us have such differences in talents, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Ugg used what he had, switched up the mix many times, tried alternate ingredients, and was passionate about it...all to get the results he wanted.

That picture of sweetness is so beautifully painted in your heart. To share this should be a desire, a pull, an irresistible thought ever present in your conscious mind.

You possess a mix of ingredients within, if fact this mix includes everything about you. The sweetness of the good news of the Gospel that is part of you is valid, tangible, relevant, and for everyone.

Mix up your ingredients. Make them into a pleasurable package that reflects the Love of God. If you need to mix it up again, then never stop trying to get it right. You will get the mixture right. Remember, paintings may be crude at first, but anything worthwhile merits practice.

Cave paintings will eventually fade. This sweetness lasts forever. Now that’s a legacy.
