If you're referring to the World War I incident in 1914 (known informally as the Christmas Truce) in which German, British and French troops along the Western front unofficially agreed to a series of ceasefires, the event wasn't sanctioned by either government, and nor was it between US and German forces. Of course, if you're referring to something else entirely, my apologies.
