There are many threads covering demon possession, and still many people are asking can it still happen today and in some ways still confused about the subject. I hope this thread can show some insight into the subject. Thank God for Good wisdom.

Many believe that evil spirits, called demons, can take over people’s bodies today. This was widely accepted in Europe hundreds of years ago. It is still believed by many in Africa in areas where the influence of Christianity is not strong. It is also a growing belief in America. A study revealed that about one third of all Americans believe that demons can take over the bodies of people. Is it true? Should we fear demon possession today? What does the Bible teach?

The Bible clearly teaches that evil spirits exist (James 2:19). They are called “devils” in the King James Version and “demons” in other translations of the Bible. These devils or demons must not be confused with the Devil, Satan, the Tempter (Matthew 4:11). There is only one Devil, but there are many demons.

In the Bible, we learn that demons entered into people and controlled them (Matthew 8:28-34). They were under the power of Satan (Beelzebub), the chief of all evil spirits (Matthew 12:24). They often caused sickness in the people they entered such as not being able to speak or see (Matthew 12:22); insanity or madness (Luke 8:26-36); personal injuries (Mark 9:14-26); and other bodily infirmities (Luke 13:11-17).

God permitted demons to possess certain people in the time of Christ and the apostles so that His power could be seen. Not only did Christ have power over nature, disease, and death, but He also had power over the spirit world. The Devil and his demons were proved to be powerless before the Son of God (Colossians 2:15; 1 John 3:8).

Demons still exist, but they do not possess people today. Today, we need to be concerned about Satan, the Devil, who tempts us to Sin and how he easily influences us today. (James 1:14; Matthew 4:3; 1 Peter 5:8).

They are in chains of darkness, or different dimension, until Jesus returns. They do not have bodies, that is why they possess people.

Thanks for posting this. I have seen examples that make me think there may still be some demonic influence if not possession however.

Demons do exist today and they are active doing the same exact things which they've always done in the past. For example, we read:

I Timothy chapter 4

[1] Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
[2] Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
[3] Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth (so don't believe anything contrary to this), expressly forewarned "THAT IN THE LATTER TIMES some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to SEDUCING SPIRITS and DOCTRINES OF DEVILS"...and there are plenty of "doctrines of devils" being pushed by deceived people right on this very forum. Furthermore, again, in relation to the end times, we read:

Revelation chapter 9

[13] And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
[14] Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
[15] And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
[16] And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
[17] And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
[18] By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
[19] For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
[20] And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
[21] Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

AT A YET FUTURE TIME, when the sixth angel sounds his trumpet, we see that men are still "worshipping devils" or demons. Also, in relation to the YET FUTURE timeframe of the battle of Armageddon, we read:

Revelation chapter 16

[12] And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
[13] And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
[14] For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
[15] Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
[16] And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

Those who are "gathered" to the YET FUTURE battle of Armageddon will be "gathered" by "unclean spirits" or by "the spirits of devils working miracles" or by demons. You might as well note, while we're here, THAT JESUS HASN'T YET COME AS A THIEF AT THIS POINT IN TIME, so anyone who is believing in the heretical teaching of an alleged "pre-tribulation rapture" is being misled by demons in relation to the same. We also read the following about the YET FUTURE destruction of "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT":

Revelation chapter 18

[1] And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
[2] And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

"Devils and...EVERY foul spirit" are still yet in existence today, so don't ever let anybody deceive you into believing otherwise.

You have probably not witnessed it yet. It is not so common as some congregations teach, but it does happen. I personally know people who have witnessed it first hand. While you are very correct about spiritual battle, you might want to look into more testimonies on this.

I have cast demons out of people and went through deliverance myself. Got delivered. Thanks Jesus.

Some are tenacious and leave kicking ,screaming and digging in to stay.
These "kind" require authority and a believer that KNOWS they will come out,not easily, but for a FACT they will come out.

Now,post deliverance we have the "aftermath",the house swept and clean, and a crossroad for the delivered. You gonna invite them back in? you gonna wallk out your freedom?
Some get "repossesed"

Of course demons are still in the world and they will be here until they are cast into the lake of fire with the diabolical one himself.

Now can demons possess a saved person? I do not see how they could. The saved person is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Demons and the Holy Spirit cannot be in the same temple together. Paul said as much to the Corinthians in his letters.
