The importance of knowing and hearing God's voice is beyond vital and many think when one speaks of hearing his voice the think of hearing voices in their minds but this is not how he mainly speaks to us. His voice for the most part is a voice with no sound and his words are not spoken in voice rather he speaks through us in a different manner for the most part. Yes there is dreams and visions there is the word however he also speaks to us more unusual ways. everyone is different and thus he speaks and reaches us in different ways as well, I am keen on beauty I have always loved the beauty of things in nature in things around me in pictures ect. and so he often times shows me the beauty side of him through things I find beautiful such as tonight when I was going on a walk at sunset the sky was beautiful and the wind was a gentle cool breeze and I felt a sensation of his heart inside me at that moment and it brought me to tears this was his voice.

when you are impacted by something you will likely be hearing his voice, when you hear a babies laughter and your heart falls for them this is his voice when you read a book and it brings you to tears this is his voice when you are watching a movie the pain inside you hurts from seeing a person in pain this is his voice when you hear a song and your heart is touched or set ablaze this is his voice. He speaks to us all the time everyday and he utilizes everything to do so however many do not listen or recognize his voice when he speaks and sometimes he uses those who do know his voice to reach others who cannot hear him in fact this thread itself may very well be that.

His Voice

Is His voice found in the whisper
of the gentle summer breeze?

Do I hear Him whistle dirges
through the rustling autumn leaves?

Does the rushing waterfall express
His lofty meditations?

Or do, perhaps, the gurgling brooks
recite His mindful contemplation's?

Does He state His wrath and anger
in the rumbling of the clouds?

It’s sad to say…I do know that
it’s rarely midst the bustling crowds.

Or could His voice, I ask myself
be in the empty space I leave

between the teardrops of my thoughts
comforting the heart that grieves?

I say I seek to know and hear
His awesome voice within my ear:

But truly, to confess, I’ve heard ...
His voice is always in His Word.

I always go to church expecting and wanting to hear God and I often tell God that I
want to meet with him in the service.

A week last sunday during the singing, I had a picture/vision of Jesus sat in the throne room.
He was looking down on planet earth and below him was the earth, every person on it was
standing up looking up to Jesus with their hands raised.

I told my friend sitting next to me. Then later the preaching started and it was about the throne
room of God and how we need to look up in difficult circumstances and know that He is on the throne
and over everything. It went on to then say we need to look inwards to exam ourselves and look
outwards to reach out to others.

Me and my friend were amazed and I felt so blessed to have seen that picture.

Its not hard to hear God, sometimes we just don't listen out for that still small voice it gets
drowned out by everything else but it is always there.

You are right that God speaks in many ways and always in a way that each individual can
hear if they are listening.

I have found many ways to hear God. Prayer, meditation, praise and worship. He has in the past just spoken to me to tell me to do something I usually wouldn't do, usually praying with a stranger but not always. I find the issue isn't if God is speaking, the issue is if I am listening.

I have heard God speak to me especially when I need comforting and often a flow of peace waves over me at the same time. As FISnookman7 says it really depends if you are listening. He talks to me when I need to make a decision too but unfortunately I am still learning to listen in this situation.

The Voice

GENESIS 26
[3]Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee,
and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I WILL PERFORM THE OATH
WHICH I SWARE UNTO ABRAHAM thy father;

[4] And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed
all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

[5] BECAUSE THAT ABRAHAM OBEYED MY VOICE, and kept my charge,
MY COMMANDMENTS, my statutes, and MY LAWS.
And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Abraham was observing to keep Gods 10 commandments
He heard and obeyed Gods "voice".

DEUT. 27
[8] And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

[9] And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed,
and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God .

[10] Thou shalt therefore OBEY THE VOICE of the Lord thy God, and
DO HIS COMMANDMENTS and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

The voice

DEUT. 4 [12] And the Lord spake unto you out of the midst of the fire:
ye heard THE VOICE of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.
[13] And he declared unto you his covenant, which HE COMMANDED YOU TO PERFORM,
EVEN TEN COMMANDMENTS; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

ZEPHANIAH 3
[1] Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!
[2] SHE OBEYED NOT THE VOICE; she received not correction; she trusted not in the
LORD; she drew not near to her God. [3] Her princes within her are ROARING LIONS;
her judges are evening WOLVES; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.
[4] Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary,
THEY HAVE DONE VIOLENCE TO THE LAW.

JOHN 10
[27] MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE, and I know them, and they follow me:
[28] And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Also Gods sheep shall also hear His “voice”.

HEBREWS 4 [6] Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they
to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

[7] Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time;
as it is said, TO DAY IF YE WILL HEAR HIS VOICE, harden not your hearts.

This was prophecied to happen.

DEUTERONOMY 4
[26] I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish
from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days
upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

[27] And THE LORD SHALL SCATTER YOU AMONG THE NATIONS, and ye shall
be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you.

[28] And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone,
which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

[29] But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him,
if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

[30] When thou art in TRIBULATION, and all these things are come upon thee,
even in THE LATTER DAYS, if thou turn to the LORD thy God,
and shalt be OBEDIENT UNTO HIS VOICE;

[31] (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God he will not forsake thee, neither
destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

GOD speaks to us in our heart, where the holy spirit, the law written on our hearts, dwells.

God has spoken to me through many ways. Here are just a few:

1. Through the bible, concordances, tapes and underlining.
2. A slip of the tongue.
3. Parables. (situations, etc.)
4. Advertisement and commercial signs.
5. Headlines
6. Creation.
7. Where my eyes glance.
8. What I feel to pray.
9. Anointed hands.
10. Directing my thoughts.
11. An inspired flash of insight.
12. Recurring thoughts and scriptures.
13. Recurring songs.
14. Dreams.
15. Through my weaknesses.
16. Through gifts of the body of believers.
17. Through creativity that comes forth from me.
18. Through children. Their words. Especially their drawings.
19. Through the seniors.
20. Pastors and teachers.
21. Through my common sense.
22. Visions.
23. The word of wisdom. Coming from another or from my spirit.
24. Signs

But I have lived many years and been a Christian all my life. I'm sure my list will grow longer even as I reach 90.

You know while I have never lost a loved one I have seen the look of those who have and remember those fond memories with them, it's almost as if you can feel the warmth they feel when they remember the treasures you see how their face shows the warmth and the love they feel like their faces tell the entire story all the joy and the laughter with their loved ones all the silly moments all the time in which they would hurt themselves because their clumsy and laugh and joke about it even all the hard times and the pain to me this is also god's voice

Amen! Mind if I put that in my quote file, properly attributed of course? I think we should open the list up to the assembled, and see how many more ways we can add onto it :)

Sometimes we miss Him speaking to us because we aren't in perfect tune or we inadvertently ignore His voice. I'm still trying to learn to" hear" Him. It's not been easy. I have heard Him in many ways already, but I'm trying to get myself more in "tune" to "hear" more clearly and often.

And you will. As time goes on you'll grow better in discerning your Master's voice. God says to persevere, not push ;)

Yes I was only thinking recently that actions speak louder than words.

A little word of encouragement, I had a dream ages ago in which I was
a child (I had it as an adult) walking along a road with Jesus.

Sometimes i was by his side, sometimes skipping a bit ahead, other times
hanging back. I woke up with that verse in the bible where Jesus told his
disciples he calls them friends.

Since then I have always thought of that song friend of God, which tends to
be used a lot in children's ministry.

Isnt that dream just so like us though, sometimes we are walking
hand in hand with the saviour, other times we get ahead we can still
see him and talk to him, but we rush ahead wanting to go at our pace.

Other times we hang back, He is always in the picture but for deep true
intimacy we need to walk hand in hand side by side with Him.

John 15:11-17 NKJV
[11] "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you,
and that your joy may be full. [12] This is My commandment, that you love
one another as I have loved you. [13] Greater love has no one than this,
than to lay down one's life for his friends.
[14] You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. [15] No longer do
I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing;
but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have
made known to you. [16] You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed
you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that
whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
[17] These things I command you, that you love one another.
