Lets look at some of the scriptures specifically dealing with the new covenant we have in Christ, now that the old covenant has been done away with:

Ezekiel 36v26-27
[SUP]26 [/SUP]I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. [SUP]27 [/SUP]I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

Jeremiah 31v31-34
[SUP]31 [/SUP]“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— [SUP]32 [/SUP]not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,[SUP][a][/SUP] says the Lord. [SUP]33 [/SUP]But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. [SUP]34 [/SUP]No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

Hebrews 10v16-39
[SUP]16 [/SUP]“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”[SUP][c][/SUP] [SUP]17 [/SUP]then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”[SUP][d][/SUP] [SUP]18 [/SUP]Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. [SUP]19 [/SUP]Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, [SUP]20 [/SUP]by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, [SUP]21 [/SUP]and having a High Priest over the house of God, [SUP]22 [/SUP]let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. [SUP]23 [/SUP]Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. [SUP]24 [/SUP]And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, [SUP]25 [/SUP]not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.[SUP]26 [/SUP]For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, [SUP]27 [/SUP]but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. [SUP]28 [/SUP]Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. [SUP]29 [/SUP]Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? [SUP]30 [/SUP]For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”[SUP][e][/SUP] says the Lord.[SUP][f][/SUP] And again, “The Lord will judge His people.”[SUP][g][/SUP] [SUP]31 [/SUP]It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. [SUP]32 [/SUP]But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: [SUP]33 [/SUP]partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; [SUP]34 [/SUP]for you had compassion on me[SUP][h][/SUP] in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven.[SUP][i][/SUP] [SUP]35 [/SUP]Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. [SUP]36 [/SUP]For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:
[SUP]37 [/SUP]“For yet a little while,
And He[SUP][j][/SUP] who is coming will come and will not tarry.
[SUP]38 [/SUP]Now the[SUP][k][/SUP] just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”[SUP][l][/SUP]
[SUP]39 [/SUP]But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

What can we glean from the above scriptures?

What God does/fulfills:

-new heart
-new spirit
-law in our minds
-write the law on our hearts
-He will be our God
-He will forgive our iniquities
-He will remember our sins no more
-cleansing our conscience
-our bodies washed with pure water
-faithfulness towards us

What we do/fulfill:
-keeping his statutes, judgements, doing them
-We will be His people
-we will know Him
-we are to draw near to God
-have faith / believe
-live by faith
-hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering
-love one another
-good works
-fellowship with believers
-exhorting one another
-enduring confidence
-doing the will of God

Breaking covenant:

  • Willfully sinning
  • Drawing back

Willfully sinning is people not believing in Christ in order to even participate in the New Covenant in the first place.

The sin of unbelief in Christ is what disqualifies people from believing and receiving the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.

John 16:8-9 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;

[SUP]9 [/SUP]concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;

Willfully rejecting Christ sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins after coming to the knowledge of the truth ( this is different then receiving the truth - which is Christ Himself ) and there remains no more sacrifice for sins but there does remains a fiery expectation of judgment. They have insulted the Spirit of grace.

Why do you mix up John 16v8 which talks of the Holy Spirit convicting the "world" of sin (unbelievers) with Hebrews 10v26 which clearly refers to believers who have already come into covenant with Christ?

The Hebrews passage then compares this to those who rejected Moses Law in verse 28. So clearly those in covenant. Not those in the 'World'.

So no. Willful sin is exactly what it says. Willful sin.

Hebrews 10:26 can be a stumbling block if we don't take the context in which this passage was written.

Some times well intentioned people take Hebrews 10:26-29 out of context with the book of Hebrews.

Anyone can take an isolated scripture out of it's context and say anything they want. Here is an example in the scripture below - Ex 32:33.
Anyone who has ever sinned is blotted out of God's book.

Exodus 32:33 (NASB)
[SUP]33 [/SUP] The LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.

This is truly stated in the OT but it is not the ultimate statement of truth. The work of Jesus's finished work on the cross trumps what is said in Ex. 32:33.

Obviously we need to view all scripture through the finished work of Christ. We don't take obscure verses and discount the abundance of clear scriptures on what our Lord has done for us.

Hebrews 10 is talking about Jewish people after hearing about Christ for the only sacrifice for sins and rejecting it to go back to the temple sacrifices for their sins.

Hebrews was written a few years before the temple system came crashing down in 70AD when it was trampled by the Roman army.

The "willful sinning" is after hearing the "knowledge" of the truth of Christ's sacrifice - those that go back to the temple sacrifices and do not receive Christ's work by faith - this is the wilful sinning being talked about - the rejection of Christ's sacrifice and blood for the forgiveness of all sins.

This is insulting the Spirit of grace. The Holy Spirit's work is to convict/convince/expose the world of their sin - which is unbelief in Christ's work. John 16:8-9

There is a vast difference between receiving the "knowledge" of the truth and "receiving the truth" which is Christ Himself.

If anyone is interested in this aspect of the New Covenant and the willful sinning part here is a great short 12 minute video that talks about Hebrews 10:26 in context with the book of "Hebrews".

Yep...every time some one posts about Hebrews 10:26 - I post what the book of Hebrews is talking about concerning the "willful sinning" in context with the Jewish audience the book is written to and the wonderful grace of God in Christ's work on the cross and resurrection.

I have these saved and sometimes I tweak them depending on the post but the truth of Christ's finished work will always be the same so I'll be posting it again if someone brings up Heb. 10:26. All is well....:)

I'll let the Holy Spirit in the believer speak to them about the truth of Hebrews 10:26.

I encourage people to believe that Jesus is the Savior and Lord and that He has saved us from our sins with His own blood. Thank you Lord Jesus!

Thought the New Covenant was eternal and can't be broken because we have Jesus as our mediator and the Holy Spirit to chastens us before it gets to that point.

What Bible verses are you using to say someone who is a BORN again child of God gets disinherited?
Hi Ariel,

Let's look at the old covenant and God's promises not to leave or forsake them:

Deuteronomy 31 v6-8

[SUP]6 [/SUP]Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” [SUP]7 [/SUP]Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and of good courage, for you must go with this people to the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall cause them to inherit it. [SUP]8 [/SUP]And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”

Then, in the same CHAPTER, we have the prophecy of Israel breaking covenant with God (not Him breaking covenant with Israel).

Deuteronomy 31 v16-18
[SUP]16 [/SUP]And the Lord said to Moses: “Behold, you will rest with your fathers; and this people will rise and play the harlot with the gods of the foreigners of the land, where they go to be among them, and they will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them. [SUP]17 [/SUP]Then My anger shall be aroused against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, ‘Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?’ [SUP]18 [/SUP]And I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they have done, in that they have turned to other gods.

Yes, we do have Jesus as our Mediator, and the Holy Spirit who chastises us.

But let me ask you this: What if you do not heed the calls to repent? What if you quieten the still small voice? What if you rebel against the chastisement? What if you no longer believe (like we are required to do)? What if we begin serving other Gods, just as the pattern of Israel of old? Do you not see that, just like Israel of old, the church can also play the harlot? Are we once again not breaking covenant with God? Are we able to demand from God to honour his side of the covenant, without us honouring our side of the covenant? Would a person who commits to Christ as a 20 year old and then later in life rejects Him - or loses faith in Him still receive salvation?--if salvation is obtained through faith?

And here we see the scriptures of one who breaks covenant, in clear black and white:

Hebrews 10v29
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

and again....

Hebrews 6v6
[SUP]6 [/SUP]if they fall away,[SUP][b][/SUP] to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

God bless

Hebrews 10:26 can be a stumbling block if we don't take the context in which this passage was written.

Some times well intentioned people take Hebrews 10:26-29 out of context with the book of Hebrews.

Hebrews 10 is talking about Jewish people after hearing about Christ for the only sacrifice for sins and rejecting it to go back to the temple sacrifices for their sins.

Hebrews was written a few years before the temple system came crashing down in 70AD when it was trampled by the Roman army.

<Hebrews 10 talks of the New Covenant, of which both Jew and Gentile who believe in Christ participate in. If you throw out Hebrews 10 as a Gentile, like you are alluding to, then the New Covenant would not apply to you and you would be forever lost. So clearly your interpretation is on sandy ground>

The "willful sinning" is after hearing the "knowledge" of the truth of Christ's sacrifice - those that go back to the temple sacrifices and do not receive Christ's work by faith <it does not say that in this passage. Its what you would like it to say, but its not the truth. Rather this scripture is in the middle of explaining what the new covenant is all about.> - this is the wilful sinning being talked about - the rejection of Christ's sacrifice and blood for the forgiveness of all sins. <clearly this is also an incorrect assertion. Proven by verse 29 which showed that they HAD accepted the blood of Christ and the forgiveness of sins>

In red above.

If you would, instead of just re-posting everything from your notes over and over again, rather read, study and learn from the word and you may actually grow. You are doing yourself a dis-service at the moment.

I can assure you that your notes, and the interpretation thereof, are not the final authority on interpretation. Put them to one side and start with a clean slate reading the word of God.

Then have a conversation here. A conversation. Your cut and paste dump is not an answer to every question on Hebrews 10v26+. God may be trying to communicate to you. You are not hearing.

Willfully sinning is people not believing in Christ in order to even participate in the New Covenant in the first place.

The sin of unbelief in Christ is what disqualifies people from believing and receiving the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.

John 16:8-9 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;

[SUP]9 [/SUP]concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;

Amen! In Hebrews 10:26, To "sin willfully" in the Greek carries the idea of deliberate intention that is habitual, which stems from rejecting Christ deliberately. This is CONTINUOUS ACTION - A MATTER OF PRACTICE. Now we don't walk along our daily life and "accidentally" fall into a pit called sin. We exercise our will but, the use of the participle clearly shows a CONTINUOUS ACTION. The unrighteous practice sin - (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Galatians 5:19-21); not the righteous, who are born of God - (1 Corinthians 6:11; 1 John 3:9).

Hebrews 10v29
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
The reference to "the blood of the covenant that sanctified him" in v. 29 seems to be referring to a Christian, but this overlooks the fact that the word translated "sanctified" (which is a term often applied to Christians; is the verb form of the adjective "holy") which means "set apart," and doesn't necessarily refer to salvation. In 1 Corinthians 7:14, Paul uses it to specifically refer to non-Christians who are "sanctified" or "set apart" by their believing spouse. (And by this Paul does not mean that they are saved). A non-Christian can be "set apart" from other non-Christians and sinful things without experiencing salvation as Paul clearly explained. So the word "sanctified" means to be "set apart." If the word "sanctified" simply meant saved, then you would have to say that the Sabbath was saved (Genesis 2:3), the tabernacle was saved (Exodus 29:43), the Lord was saved (Leviticus 10:3), the Father saved the Son (John 10:36) and many other things that just do not line up with scripture.

In verse 39, the author sets up the contrast that makes it clear to me that he was referring to unbelievers, not saved people: But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. Those who draw back to perdition do not believe to the saving of the soul and those who believe to the saving of the soul do not draw back to perdition. So after considering the context, it seems most likely that "he was sanctified" should be understood in the sense of someone who had been "set apart" or identified as an active participant in the Christian community of believers, but who has subsequently committed apostasy by renouncing his identification with other believers, by rejecting the "knowledge of the truth" that he had received, and by repudiating the work and the person of Christ himself. Such a person’s apostasy is thus evidence that his identification with the Christian community was only superficial and that he was not a genuine believer.

Hebrews 10v16-39[SUP]16 [/SUP]“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”[SUP][c][/SUP] [SUP]17 [/SUP]then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”[SUP][d][/SUP] [SUP]18 [/SUP]Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.
[SUP]38 [/SUP]Now the[SUP][k][/SUP] just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”[SUP][l]
[/SUP]
[SUP]39[/SUP]But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

What can we glean from the above scriptures?

I glean that under the New Covenant God Will, and that we who believe in Jesus Christ are not those who draw back to perdition, but are those who are saved.

Hebrews 13:18 ¶ Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.
19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.
20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Christ is the mediator of this covenant.

Well, I am definitely against the unbelief in Christ's work on the cross and resurrection and I hope that you are too.

I realize that the proper understanding of Heb 10 in speaking to a Jewish audience conflicts with your religious view from your church teachings that people lose their salvation despite the fact that Jesus is not a liar and He said that the Holy Spirit with be with you and in you forever. John 14:16.

Now to this verse 29.

Hebrews 10:29 (NASB)
[SUP]29 [/SUP] How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

Who would regard as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified? How does one insult the Spirit of grace - He is the One that convicts/convinces the world of "sin" because of unbelief in Christ. John 16:8-9

Remember the author of the book is talking to "Jewish people" and they were in their religion going to the temple to sacrifice bulls for their sins. To reject Christ's as the sacrifice is treating His blood as a common thing.

What about this "by which he was sanctified?" I hope you realize what the word "sanctified" means because it'll help you to understand some things in scripture.

Mankind is all "sanctified/set apart" for the gospel as far as God is concerned. It's up to us to believe it to receive the gospel of the grace of Christ.

Hebrews 10:29 is stating this fact that all man-kind ( including the Jewish people where the Messiah came forth from ) has been set apart or sanctified for the gospel of Christ. Reject Christ sacrifice and there remains no more sacrifice for sins.

Remember the word "sanctified" means to be set apart for use - not sinning as we have been religiously brain-washed into thinking.. I'll prove this out in my next post.

Here Paul is taking about beingthe husband who is an unbeliever as being sanctified because of the wife.

1 Corinthians 7:14 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy.

I really encourage you to ask the Lord about what the real gospel is because even your points below in the OP are all done by grace through faith in Christ's finished work. These are ours in Christ now and we walk these out as the Holy Spirit transforms our mind about the new creation in Christ.

Christ does all of these in and through us by His life in us and we participate in it with Him. For it is God who is at work in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Phil. 2:13

These below are all "descriptions" of Christ Himself manifesting in us because we are already saved eternally.

What we do/fulfill:
-keeping his statutes, judgements, doing them
-We will be His people
-we will know Him
-we are to draw near to God
-have faith / believe
-live by faith
-hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering
-love one another
-good works
-fellowship with believers
-exhorting one another
-enduring confidence
-doing the will of God

Here is the post I promised about what does "sanctified" mean? It means "set apart for a purpose".

In the Old Covenant here were garments that were holy - does that mean they were "progressively" getting holy?....No, of course not - they were "set apart" for something.

There were holy days - does that mean the were "progressively" being sanctified? No - they were "set apart" for something.

The gold was sanctified in the temple. Lot's of examples of the real use of the term "set apart/sanctified".

Then of course there is the spouse of the believer being "sanctified" as talked about earlier.

All the world has been set apart for Jesus is the Lamb of God who took away the sin of the world. Now, the real question is - will people receive what has been "set aside" for them by the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ?

For the Jewish people back when Hebrews was written - this meant rejecting Christ's sacrifice and going to the temple to sacrifice bulls. This is treating the blood of Jesus as a common thing and insulting the Spirit of grace that is continually speaking to them of their unbelief in Christ's work.

That is the "willful sinning" in Hebrews 10:26. The gospel is good news! Believe it and receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.

Jesus said He will never leave nor forsake you. Jesus said that nothing can pluck us out of His hand nor the Father's hand. Jesus said all that come to Me - I will lose none of them. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit when He comes - He will be with you and in you forever.

Now, the real question here is - Is Jesus a liar? Everyone must make their own decision on that.

Me - I believe Him and so I boldly preach and teach the love and grace of God in Christ so that we can grow up in Him. A dying and hurt world needs to see the love and grace that our loving Father and Lord have for them.

The religion of Christianity that we have made it to be is a vey poor substitute for knowing Christ Himself.

What's with mailmandan & G777, anyway, tagteaming together & always on at the same time?

Last night, both of them were looking in different places for about 2 1/2 hours & during that time neither one of them posted. You'd think the two were sockpuppets run by one guy, both on & off at the same time, Both on all day long.
