How does a Christian stay dead to himself, but alive to God? How does God's goals become our goals - God's desires become our desires - The only life we have was the life of Christ?

I think you know the answer. It is a matter of choice to follow God's will as outlined in scripture above our own. And living in such a way that the life of Christ is not hindered from being revealed in our actions and speech.

We put down our own desires when that contradicts the will of God. But we do not really lose ourselves. We actually find ourselves (the part of us that is complete in Christ, wholesome and at peace.

We then not only spiritually wear His righteousness, but we begin to express it to others. It is revealed through us.

[for me anyway] the Lord Jesus Christ already told us how, by denying ourselves, which is to deny our own will; which by the way should be the last will of ours if we are to continue in Christ: for this cause does God's Word tell us that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways, because we cannot submit to and rely on the will of God (which is His Word) and also submit to and rely upon our own will; either we truly shall put our trust into the hands and power of God, or not; because we cannot put our hand to the plow and look back at the same time, for then we are not fit for the kingdom of God.

This is a total surrender to God, nothing less. It is His will be done and not our own.
We become dead to the flesh and we accept new life in the Spirit. Upon doing that
we become a new creation as is written in 2Cor. 5:17. So we should never substitute
our will for God's will. Rather we cling to Him with endless faith.

eventually in our called and chosen 'walk' our will begins to fade more and more as we only
pray to be always in His Holy Will, for any other way is the way of this fallen-world,,.
eventually, this will become our New Reality, Jesus' Reality, and we don't ever have a
desire to 'go-back' into satan's ways and means of his trying to corrupt everything
that we were or ever did'...it truly is a day-by-day process, that is, 'putting OFF the OLD,
and 'PUTTING ON the NEW LIFE, REALITY of our Holy Saviour's Calling,..

Only the Holy Spirit alone can carry out this great work within our lives. The Believers Faith must be placed and maintained strictly in Christ and the Cross, i.e., The Finished Work, i.e., The Blood of Jesus, which then gives the Holy Spirit latitude to carry out this great work He demands within our lives.

We must start thinking spiritually, which refers to the fact that everything is furnished to us through the Cross, and is obtained by Faith and not works. In effect, the Believer can do little more than furnish a "willing mind and obedient
heart" (1 Chronicles 28:9). Even in the "obedient heart" about all that the Believer can do, is to be willing that the heart be made obedient to the Lord. When the believing sinner is Born Again, the Holy Spirit automatically comes in, imparting to the Believer the Divine Nature (John 3:3; 2 Cor. 5:17). As well, the Spirit of God sets about to bring the Believer to conformity to the Image of Christ (Romans 8:29). In this the Holy Spirit also brings great Power which is now available to the Believer (Acts 1:8; 8:12).

Humble ourselves and pray is the 1st step IMO, then accept the path He sets before us, no matter if it is blessings or chastening.

Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O Yah, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Hebrews 12:3-17, “For consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and faint in your lives."4, You have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin."5, And you have forgotten the appeal which speaks to you as to sons, “My son, do not despise the discipline of יהוה, nor faint when you are reproved by Him,"6, for whom יהוה loves, He disciplines, and flogs every son whom He receives.” (Pro 3:11-12) "7, If you endure discipline, Yah is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline?"8, But if you are without discipline, of which all have become sharers, then you are illegitimate and not sons."9, Moreover, we indeed had fathers of our flesh disciplining us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?"10, For they indeed disciplined us for a few days as seemed best to them, but He does it for our profit, so that we might share His apartness."11, And indeed, no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but grievous, but afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it."12, So, strengthen the hands which hang down and the weak knees, Isa 35:3."13, and make straight paths for your feet, lest the lame be turned aside, but instead, to be healed."14, Pursue peace with all, and pursue apartness without which no one shall see the Master."15, See to it that no one falls short of the favor of Yah, that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, by which many become defiled,"16, lest there be anyone who whores, or profane one, like Ěsaw, who for a single meal sold his birthright. 17, For you know that afterward, when he wished to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it with tears.”

Remain IN Yahshua;

1 John/Yahanan 3:24, “And the one guarding His commands stays in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He stays in us, by the Spirit which He gave us.”

John/Yahanan 15:5-16, "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, produces much fruit; but without Me, you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away like a branch, and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and letting My words; abide in you, you will ask what you will, and it will be done for you. In this is My Father glorified: when you produce much fruit; and in this way you become My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you; continue in My love. If you keep My Commands, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's Commands, and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be complete. This is My Command: Love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: that one would lay down his life on behalf of his brothers. You are My brothers, if you do whatever I command you."

Sewt your mind and hgeart on what is right;

1 Peter/Kepha 1:13-21, "Therefore, gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the undeserved pardon that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Yahshua Messiah. As obedient children, do not conform to the former lusts you had when you lived in ignorance; But as He Who called you is holy, so you also become holy in all your conduct; Because it is written Be holy, for I am holy. And if you call on the Father, Who, without respect of persons judges according to each man's work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your sojourning here in reverence; Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, such as silver or gold, from your idolatrous way of life handed down to you by tradition from your forefathers; But with the precious blood of Messiah, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot; Who truly was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you; Who through Him we do believe in YHWH, Who raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in YHWH."

Well, if the goal of God by sending his only begotten was that we should not perish, I trust that being perishable that you be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Do you have faith? have it to thyself before God seeing that is written, If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

In this the Holy Spirit also brings great Power which is now available to the Believer (Acts 1:8; 8:12).

Amen that is the only way. The world., the flesh and the devil are apposed to the Spirit., grace and truth. The world will keep our eyes on what's going on all around us., the flesh will want to carry out what it's always done for us in our minds because that is how it used to do things., (it is our old manner of living) and the devil uses the world and the flesh on top of his lies to keep us from looking to Jesus. It really seems like the odds are stacked against us.

But when we begin paying more attention to Jesus and His finished work., the less we will look at and pay attention to us and our measly works. Paying attention is giving weight to what Jesus did and is doing and looking away and not giving weight to ourselves and our works and what we did or are doing. This will bring the victory we so much desire but have no clue as to how to get.

The directions are all over the Bible but we humans see those directions as "works" when in fact they are the of life of "faith" a new and living way to live. Not by our own wits (old manner of living) but by faith in Jesus the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us. (new manner of life) What we are now in Christ is not what we were before.

We are new creations now. But the sad dreadful thing is many of us have not yet learned to walk in the new manner of life in the Spirit. We are too busy looking through our old tried and failed way of living that got us through to yet another day although it was by the skin of our teeth., we figured we are at least alive so this must be what it means to have tribulation... failure but we make it to another day alive. NO

No., Jesus said He came to give us life and that MORE ABUNDANTLY. We no longer have to live by the skin of our teeth. We can and are supposed to have fullness of life IN Christ while here in the body to be able to live here on earth. Walking in the Spirit means just that... one step at a time... walking.... step by step seeing Jesus in our lives transforming us day by day and seeing miracles in each day as we put off the old (thinking) and put on the new (thinking). That means... reckon the truth of what Jesus says and did to be true.., look away from self works.., And by faith walk in His promises that are all over the Bible. Believe Jesus bought and paid for God's unmerited unearned favor for you so you no longer must try to earn it for yourself.

We get to be followers not leaders in our lives. We get to benefit from all that Jesus died to give us by simply following Jesus our Good Shepherd. It is in doing that act of following that we will cause us not to fulfill the lusts of the old flesh because we will be learning how to walk in and by the Spirit as our new man is trained day by day to look to Jesus and follow Him... not the world.,, the flesh and the devil.

This can't be done by our flesh. Religion has it backwards because religion says... do the works and then God will be pleased and then you will be more strong.. NO... Follow Jesus the Good Shepherd as born again people with a new born again spirit that is daily learning how to walk out their salvation., only then will we be strong to do the things a born again spirit man is called to do. We can't do that by your old manner of living. The flesh can't do a spirit walk. The flesh is dead but many Christians keep trying to infuse life back into it. Those are empty works and a total waste of time.

How do we put down our own desires?
Romans 12:1 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Amen! Good post!

Romans 13:12 - The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 - Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

The Believer must understand that when God doesn't see the Believers heart exhibiting Faith in His beloved Son in whom He is pleased, Jesus and the Cross of Calvary wherethe victory was one, we have chosen another Jesus (2 Cor. 11:4) which produces strange fire and strange incenses.

When Aaron's sons Nadab & Abihu, Priests of God, ordained of God, called by God, and anointed by God - failed to take coals of fire from the Brazen Altar (A Type of Calvary), but from another source, and put those coals of fire on the Golden Altar, which sat immediately in front of the Veil, which hid the Holy of Holies, where God dwelt between the Mercy seat and the Cherubim. They were devoured by fire from the Holy of Holies. In other words, to do such was, in effect, to bypass Calvary, which God could not tolerate.

Man can come before God only on one premise, and that is by and through the shed Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. That and that alone, which the Brazen Altar and its Sacrifices typified, gains entrance to God in any Form. When Jesus said, “No man cometh to the Father but by Me,”He was speaking of what He would do at the Cross of Calvary, which would make all of this possible (John 14:6).

It is imperative that a Believers Faith is exclusively in Christ and the Cross, i.e., The Blood ofJesus, i.e., The Finished Work of Christ (Romans 8:2).Anything and everything else is during the same as Aaron's sons (Nadab &Abihu) by offering strange fire. (Lev. 10:1)

Christians offer strange fire when they change God's prescribed order ofvictory for sanctification (over sin, the world, the flesh, and the Devil). Romans 8:2

All types of Strange fire are being offered up today in Christendom. It looks right, and it looks real, but it does not originate with the Cross. As a result, it cannot be right, and most definitely, it will ultimately be judged by God. As should be plainly and clearly obvious, the Cross is not something that can be ignored. The fire of judgment will consume the Sacrifice, i.e., "Christ," or else it will consume the individual. In other words, we go Christ's way, which is the Cross, or else we face the Judgement of God.

Brother there is one problem with your "everything is furnished through the cross" the only thing that the cross acomplished is the payment of own sins, forgiveness and our life of justification before God in the Spirit is in Christ's resurrection.

Romans 4:25

“who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.”

Notice He was delivered up or put on the cross for our trespasses, but it is His resurrection that justifies us so that we can live forgiven in justification to God, without the resurrection we have no justification or forgiveness, only payment of sins. The cross is the negitive side of salvation and the resurrection is the plus side which is life in justification and the Spirit, if Christ would not have been resurrected He could of never asended to the Father to send the Spirit of promise.

Is redemption centered up in the Cross of Christ or the Resurrection of Christ?

Answer:

Redemption is centered up totally in the Cross of Christ. While everything else after the Cross, the Resurrection, Ascension, and Exaltation of Christ, played a tremendous part, and continues to play a tremendous part, the truth is, all of this is made possible, the Resurrection, Ascension and Exaltation of Christ, because of the Cross.

Victory = The Cross of Christ, i.e., The Blood of Jesus, i.e., The Finished Work

the blood, not the cross, the piece of wood did nothing, it is the blood that the Messiah offered up that cleanses our sins. Knowing what He did for us should make us want to live for Him.
