I've been trying to read the Bible for understanding and finding out how I can apply its lessons to my own life.

This morning I read Hebrews and two topics jumped out at me. the fact that everyone had Godly fear that moved them to do great things in their faith of God.

Hebrew talks about the second covenant that God gave to replace the first one which is better and does not require we make blood sacrifices anymore.

However I think its important to remind myself of these versus concerning chastening. It reminds me that we are lump of coals burning in the furnace of God so that we can be transformed through pressure and heat into sparkling diamonds.

Hebrews 12 v. 5 - 8, 11

"My son, do not despice the chastening of the Lord,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him. For whom the Lord loves He chastens. And scourges every son whom He recieves." If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons, for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? but if you are without chastening, of which all become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.....Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it."

I know its hard to admit we are wrong and need God's grace and help to overcome things, but I think we are better if we keep struggling. Paul tells us "let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." Hebrews 12 v.1

I'm off to the races, see you at the finish line ;)
