I'm having a problem of sorts with 1 Corinth 14:34-35 which basically states that we gals ought to keep our mouths shut:

"As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church"

I am interested in the opinions of those CC members who believe in the inerrancy of the Bible (and those who don't)...what's your "take" on the above?

i believe just what it says.

1) no one (male or female) should be speaking in church except the pastor/teacher who is presumbly giving the reading from scripture.
2) no women in the pulpit

this has nothing to do with women reading benedictions, or making announcements, etc.

last service i attended would have been much enjoyable had the mother next to me kept her 3 kids from making paper airplanes from their programs and scrunching them and tossing them around.

some of the best messages I have ever heard have been given by women. I think it is outdated and may have been acceptable 2000 years ago but in todays society it just doesn't work.

Women were as bold then as today. There is nothing new under the sun.
This statement as I have been taught was because of the women who would cry out during the service for exegesis of the scripture being spoken of by the early church fathers and the disciples in the day.
Kinda like sitting in church today and right after the minister has finished a sentence yelling(WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT) apparently this was quite common back in the day and so they wrote the above scripture VOILA!

I believe the Bible is inerrant and infallable. It means exactly what it says. Women shouldn't talk in Church. This is not the only time that it is in the Bible. It is in Timothy aswell. I do not believe in women pastors or that women should speak in the Church. The Bible does offer that she could ask her husband at home. The man can speak in Church. The husband could even ask a question for his wife in church. Some places do not allow anyone to talk but some Churches allow people to talk, mostly if it is a open Bible study for questions.

Paul was speaking specifically to the Corinthians because IN THAT CHURCH the women were being loud and obnoxious. He was NOT speaking to the church at large. God is NOT a respecter of persons and gives the Holy Spirit equally to all that ask. IF people would learn How to study the scriptures they would not get stuck on these religious misconceptions that promote strife and bondage.

Ah, so society dictates truth and the bible, not God. Interesting. Well, society dictates that sex is ok, homosexuality, abortion, selfishness, pride, pornography, adultery, and a myriad of other things are acceptable and to be against those things by modern thinking would also be 'outdated'. So i guess since we don't want the bible to be outdated by societal standards we can just do whatever society dictates and forget the bibles 'outdated' teachings.
And silly me, i thought truth was truth regardless of society, or any other changing medium. So i guess God needs to change his standards to suite our desires and what society teaches us instead of expecting us to change. Because, as we see, humanity is great at choosing whats best for itself. Just ask all the dead soldiers, the batter wives, gang members, STD victims, alcoholics, drug addicts, prison inmates.. oh wait.. maybe that's not such a good idea after all....

If Jesus Christ has told a woman to speak, no man nor woman can tell her not to.

Seek the answers from Jesus my friend.

May Jesus bless you.

Back in those days women were treated less than. There are plenty verses that shows Jesus was not like that. He spoke to women and said he is no respecter or persons. He loves us the same. The haters keep those verses. Women were not allowed and the men got the teachings and the men were to teach the wives. Thank God there are men who are men and not afraid of a women these days. Lots of good teachers men and women.

I'm not experienced as many of you on here, but I do know God, so I'm qualified to speak :)

1. No, it's not outdated.
2. It could have just been speaking specifically to the church in Corinth. We'd have to do more study on it to find out.
3. It does not mean that women should not talk ever at church (literally "talk"), but I believe it to mean that they should not preach.
Again, whether it was just specific to that church, I don't know.

But one question: would you really be so prideful to call them "haters" or "outdated" people? Women are definitely treated worse now then they were back then. That's right, I actually went against the grain (*gasp*). Maybe not in all ways, but in many ways, yes.
For one, it seems to be more acceptable now for a man or woman to be obnoxious or a show-off (not to everyone, but much of the "media-world")
Back then, being peaceful and gentle in heart was commended.

Could I be wrong on everything? Yes, maybe.
But God didn't call us to argue persistently about every single thing. Instead of sitting here and saying who is right and who is wrong, couldn't we be praying for each other and witnessing to others?

It's not wrong to disagree. But it is wrong to break up family over something like this (not that it's not important).

It's how society was back then, not meant for now. Under the New Covenant, as Christians, there is no male or female. Be glad you live in today's times.

Gal_3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

You know this is really interesting, that some people think it was commandments of Paul to Corinthians... Look at this... Just a few verses furhter....If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. It is commandments of the LORD to even the churches today!

When we read what happens when Godly people gather the whole meeting is described in 1 Corinthians 14 from verse 26 to 40 ...And I am going to answer from the Bible a LOT of questions the people ask about HOW DOES A CHURCH LOOK THAT WORSHIP GOD IN TRUTH AND IN SPIRIT!

Ok so let us do a thorough study on what happens when SAINTS MEET TO PRAISE GOD.

1 Cor 14:26... Paul says... EVERY one including the women will sing Psalms (Word/Truth) They will all have a doctrine (The doctrine of Jesus) (All were baptized in the SAME HOLY SPIRIT.) (ONE DOCTRINE of JESUS). some will have a tongue, others a revelation, and some an iterpretation of the tongue. HERE is the secret.... ALL WILL BE HEADED AND MANAGED BY CHRIST JESUS THE HOLY SPIRIT HIMSELF! Not one person will say a single word out of himself, becasue the Holy Spirit is in control of EVERYTHING there! He is the one who EDIFIES... MAKES IT ALL ONE!!!

verse 27 and 28... If there is tongues spoken the Holy Spirit will know if there is another that can interpret. If there is no interpreter the Holy Spirit will tell that man to keep quiet! ans only two and maximum three will speak in tongues, and all will be interpreted, if it is not, that person did not listen to the Holy Spirit, and should be reproofed. Beware of these people that speak and there is no interpreter. You can even put that man out of the church, he can go speak to himself and God outside of the meeting! He would not be upset, becasue he is still with God! and maybe God wants to speak to him in private! No harm done.

verse 29... Let the prophets speak... Yep there is prophets in the church of Corinthians and in the church of God, TODAY! and they prophecy what God has ALWAYS told the prophets to prophecy. The Holy Spirit will know what prophecy is needed that day! Remember the spirits of the prophets is still subjected to the prophets of today, and all the prophets of all time! verse 32.

Now when a prophet prophecy the others should JUDGE the prophecy, it should be exactly like it is in the WORD of God. Also two or three, when a fourth wants to prophecy, tell him NO!!! stay to this, because these is GOD'S will what should happen n a church! The ones that wants to change this are NOT OBEYING GOD!

When a prophet is prohecying, and another gets a revelation, the prophet should stop speaking... KEEP quiet, and let the revelation be shared AT ONCE! Again the Holy Spirit is at work, ALL these things are GIVEN BY THE ONE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD AS A SERVICE TO HIS GLORY!

Oh ALL may prophecy, but not in the GATHERING/MEETING... there is plenty time to prophecy to another when the LORD wants to give a prophecy to another as AN EDIFICATION IN TRUTH AND WORD AND SPIRIT! It will still be a prophecy that is found in scripture. That man prophecied too might need to hear it and not read it. It happens lots of times in my life... I will recite a verse to a person, and he or she will say... WOW I never understood it but now that you quoted it I can SEE what God meant...THANK YOU LORD!

God is not in disoray like in Benni Hinn's entertainment theaters. Nope but ordily and in PEACE... a peace we cannot even contemplate as humans. It is the same peace JESUS shown ALL his days on earth. Who thinks Jesus was not at peace when He threw the tables over in the temple... HE WAS 100% at peace! the tables and the others were not but HE WAS!

Verse 34. Then it says your women should keep silence in church... Yes they should! just like the one that wanted to speak in a tongue but the Holy Spirit told him there is no interpreter. And that man did keep silent. And also the prophet... he was busy prophecying when another man got a revelation, and he held his peace, and he kept his silence...

And the women should ask their husbands to explain what they did not understand... Two thisngs happen here... The woman aknowledge the husband as the priest of the home, and she keeps him on his toes with the Word of God! If the man does not understand he will go to a WELL SCHOOLED brother and God's Spirit and Word (Jesus Christ) will once again reign over ALL!

The husband will be blessed to stay in God's Word and Truth and Spirit, and so will the wife. She will be blessed with a husband that will soon also be APT TO TEACH...

And please if we think we are spiritual or a prophet we should KNOW and acknowledge that these things are COMMANDMENTS of the LORD!

If any wants to argue this, you are ignorent and I will let you be ignorent, I do not argue these things! THEY ARE COMMANDS FROM THE LORD FOREVER!!!! In Corinthians, and here in GEORGE and in EVERY CHURCH OF THE SAINTS, until the END OF TIMES!

LORD LET THOU WILL BE DONE. AMEN!

Naphel the Corinthians are under the same covenant you are under. They were a church that formed way AFTER Jesus was crucified. This commands of God will stand forever, and will never change.

The preceding verses should be read as well to get the context of what is being said:-
1 Corinthians 14:28-33
(28) But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
(29) Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
(30) If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
(31) For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
(32) And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
(33) For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

It's not just in cor it's mentioned about woman, but hey that was then this is now, we keep to societies standards right??

Do you know they use the same arguement for homosexuality as accepted lifestyles within church, then / now.

Tuff call, I read the bible first yet when I started going church I was bewildered there was a female preaching at one service. Someones lying wonder who?? Anyone notice it's come only recently since the bible was compiled.

Each to their own

Asking a woman to be quiet and submit is like asking a rich young ruler to give up all of his money.
