Is that Harry Potter sorcerer bad to watch?

How does the Holy Spirit lead you is my answer to this question.

Focus On The Family stated, I think, I really should look this up for certain but I listen to that radio program ever so often and, maybe their stance has changed too, but FOTF said that Harry Potter watching-and all secular entertainment watching--can be done IF its done knowing it's not God's desire that we follow ways of soothsayers and sorcerers. FOTF also said that we should watch Harry Potter so that we can talk to others about it, offering constructive spiritual criticism of the movie to non-believers.

Are you being chastened by the Holy Spirit IF you watch HP movie is my answer to this question.

Could their be times the Spirit could make you chosen to watch movies that are really bad so that you can reach those who would really not be reached without someone reaching out that way ?

I think I have already answered that question.

My ultimate answer, the Lord leads, be led, demonic activity is real, ASK for the blood of Christ protection through ALL THINGS that can tempt OUR FLESH and that come dangerously close to influencing us. We can't just be sheltered from EVERYTHING CAN WE ? But Christ is there, He is greater in you (your temple) than He in the world John 4:4 :)

Yes, it promotes witchcraft and wizards as good... to young minds.

31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

Hot topic, Green! ;)

I think perhaps some who are mature in the Lord (not years) might be led to read and watch for the sake of those who are younger or unsaved, but personally I would want to know that was God's will.
And I feel heartbroken for all those who are young in years and/or without the Lord when they're exposed to it. :(
There's so much warning about witchcraft in the Bible, for very good reasons.

I have found alot, and I mean ALOT of proclaiming Christians do not believe any of the biblical sorcery was true, they believe its what we see today as magic, slight of hand or a trick of sorts with smoke and mirrors, even went to a church where as the pastor was preaching he relented from believing the girl in Acts who told fortunes actually had any special powers from demonic origin, as if she were a parlor trickster who uses technics we see the "Mentalist" use on TV. although this pastor had no answer when I asked him how she was unable to bring her owners any money after the spirit was cast out, if she were simply using observation and reading people by their clothing and jewelry.......at this point I asked the pastor if he believed the magicians that copied Moses miracles actually copied them or were the snakes produced from their sleeves, after he told me the sleeves, I was thoroughly convinced that this man will easily be deceived when the antichrist comes producing all his signs and wonders

The reason most professing christians see no harm in these sorcery movies and shows is because they don't believe there is any real power to be obtained through witchcraft and sorcery, while we know no idol has ever had any real power of its own, the deception is done by those spirits who left with satan to deceive the world, to make people worship false gods and the like

I did read the five first harry potter books, I borrowed the sixth one, and there is no way I am reading the last one...

The first two-three I think are kind of innocent (I grew up wit fairy tales that are worse... Many nordic stories are about trolls, simple magic, goblins, even the devil)
From then they start talking about topics that are clearly about posession, demons, raising the dead etc etc.

I would not want anyone in my care to read them. Not as much because of the magic, as because of all the other topics that are weaved into it.

However, I don' think one has to read them to warn people against them (just reading the back would give a pretty good idea what the conents are if , for instance a parent want to know what the kids are intending to read, as can online reviews).

Harry Potter can't be as bad as other movies that promote murder, encourage adultery, and trash marriage.

Woooo wizardsss!

C'mon people, in today's society a kid is more likely to have premarital sex at age 12 than become a wizard. Why not also compare Harry Potter to X-Men?

Why would a christian be interested in reading nonsense like "Harry Potter" other than for the sake of researching it to warn people about it?

The wand through which Harry Potter performs his magic is made from holly wood. Hollywood is in Los Angeles or Lost Angels. So Hollywood is what lost angels use to perform magic.

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
( Deuteronomy 18:10-11 )

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ( Philippians 4:8 )

Deuteronomy 18:10,11 -
There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

Lev 20:27 -
A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood [shall be] upon them.

Of course, we are in the New Testament now and don't stone, but there is still a principal that wizards are bad.

You might be saying "Oh it's just a kids movie, it's harmless." Keep in mind:

2Cr 11:14 -
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

No, and I never understood why people can take a work of fiction so seriously? Do people honestly have nothing better to do than complain about a book full of made up things?

Indeed, it is, being shown on a major premium channel now, often, like having been on 10 times almost this month. Deathly Hallows part 2 has been a feature movie on HBO, and, Part 1 was shown a month, or, two straight, too, before part 2 , pscheymom :)

The Lord will lead you, people. As Triber said, unless the things of this world are put on your heart to reach others who otherwise will NOT accept Christ and they would rather believe necromancers that conjure up demons are cool in their life and don't believe God would allow them to be thrown into The Pit after dying, then you should be VERY careful what you watch and, for that matter, what you do, in life, that it is pleasing to Him.

I am not saying you have to be PERFECTLY saintly to go to Heaven, but you WILL want to have the patience of being saintly, demonstrating self-control of what you take in, IF you said in your heart some day ago in your life, 'I believe and will follow I repent of mine sins, correct me, Lord, in Love, pleaze, of what I do going forward that is not of you. Jesus, I'm yours.' :)

Its really much simpler than that, satanic symbolism on the covers of these books are the equivelent of how gang members tag their neighborhood to let other gangsters know who's turf they're on

demons love to mark they're turf, its easy to spot once you know what to look for, just as any gang member could tell you who's running the neighborhood you live in......considering you live where this goes on

I always love these kinds of comparisons........Hey! so I raped a fifteen year old I'm not as perverted as the guy in the cell next to me, his victims were 4 and 5 yr olds.....man now thats sick!

C'mon people use greater evils to make your actions look more innocent.......as if God is grading on a curve...

I didn't have to waste my time watching HP so I can witness and really don't recommend it to others so they can witness. Thank God for Good Fight Ministries, they've already done all the homework and I've used their video's to witness to others. Pastor Joe Schimmel is an expert in this area.

I believe its not just what we read and watch that matters but we think and believe while watching or reading the works.

Do we buy into the lies or do we compare it with scripture?

For me it is like watching an bank being robbed or an elaborate scam being played upon people. some people will think "cool I want to do it too" and some will watch to learn the tricks of the crooks and use that knowledge to keep them from stealing from them in the future.

So the question is do you want to be the robber or the cop?

However what is attempted to be stolen is more then just money but the hearts, minds and souls of our youth.

You can turn a blind eye to it, but as someone who works with young children I sometimes read and watch and listen to what they are being exposed to at home or in their environment to better understand their thoughts and what we have to battle against.

What strongholds those demonic forces are attempting to plant into the minds of our youth.

I would rather my children watch a movie with me, then try and sneak and watch it elsewhere. in that manner we can help them discern truth from fiction and good from evil.

Is that Harry Potter sorcerer bad to watch?
in itself no

How does the Holy Spirit lead you is my answer to this question.

i agree
Are you being chastened by the Holy Spirit IF you watch HP movie is my answer to this question.
perhaps some or but personally I would make sure it is the HOLY Spirit and not another spirit trying to condemn and not convict you. the difference is that GOD shows you what you should be doing and explains why. when the demons just whisper lies and try and make you feel guilty and not good enough and tell you how sinful you are for watching a movie. It is not what comes into your body or mind that makes you defiled but what comes out of your mouth and what you accept as truth that makes you unclean. the test I use is clarity of mind: does the thought help me do the work I know God has entrusted me to do? Does it help me be at peace and feel the Joy of GOD in my heart and allow me to share His love with others? IF the answer is no, then I examine to see if the thought lines up with scripture and pray about it.

Could their be times the Spirit could make you chosen to watch movies that are really bad so that you can reach those who would really not be reached without someone reaching out that way ?

I think I have already answered that question.

I think the real world has worst things then what can be found in books or movies.

demons exist, fallen angels pretend to be your best friend, deception is so named not because the lies are obvious to the one deceived but because they are veiled and enslaves those who believe in the lie.

so long as read the books or watch the movie with the understanding that it is a parable, it shouldn't be a problem. the last book and the actions of the protagonist should seem very familiar. harry potter is no more dangerous than star wars, the muppets or lord of the rings. while there are some things that can be considered questionable it is no where near as bad as the things we deal with in reality on a daily basis.

Yes, Harry Potter is bad. Don't dabble in it. "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them" (Eph 5:11).

I've read the books and watched the movies and honestly I find there's more Christian meaning in them than most Christian movies and many books. Not only that, but the magic found within the books is the fairytale variety, not the sort condemned in the Bible (save for one bit but that's performed by Voldemort - the main villain). The children are actually taught to recognise and defend themselves and others against the dark arts (magic forbidden by the Bible).

Honestly I love harrypotter, it's an epic battle between good and evil. I see nothing wrong with it, however my sister and her friend study witchcraft which i sometimes worry about. But they never got it from that movie, it's just part of being a social outcast. Although she isn't exactly one now but she just copies everyone and it wierds and grosses me out from it
