The Meaning of Hebrews 6th Chapter

Hebrews 6:1Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this will we do, if God permit.

This means once that foundation has been laid in Christ Jesus, believers has no need to lay it down again.

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

That means once you have received the remission of sin, you can never lose that seal of adoption because that would be akin to saying that His one time offering for sin was not good enough to have saved you.

7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: 8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. 9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

This means that salvation cannot be lost because as the earth has received the rain, so has it brought forth growth & fruit from that rain, thus salvation cannot be undone.

To better understand this reference, we go to another about how we build on that foundation is how we will be judged. Lean on Him to see how it mirrors the message in Hebrews 6.

1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

That is similar to Hebrews 6:1-3

12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

This is referring to that day when God will judge His House as stated in Hebrews 6:8.

14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Do note verse 15. Salvation is not lost, but rewards are. May Jesus Christ help you understand the reality of these verses below in how it can never be undone because that foundation can never be removed to have necessity to lay it down again.

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.....23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.

It is what we build on that foundation is what will be judged & thus burned in the fire.

Read Hebrews 12th chapter at this link below to see how God the Father will chasten unrepentant believers, thus showing a race to run; not for salvation, but for the rewards: the high prize of His calling which is to be ready by Him for the Marriage Supper of the Lamb at the pre trib rapture event when God judges His House first.

The Meaning of Revelation 3:5

Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Scroll down to verse 5 and click on the last word in the first line of the Greek texts mirroring verse 5. The Greek term "ov un" is the word that not was derived from, but if you look at that meaning, you will see a double negative that needs to be applied to verse 5. That link provided below.

That means Jesus will never blot out your name from the Book of Life.

That is keeping in line with the promise in John 6:39, doesn't it?

John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

So why the need to overcome? The loss of rewards. Revelation is warning believers to be ready & be found abiding in Him or risk being left behind from the pre trib rapture event when God judges His House as many are called, but few are chosen to attend the Marriage Supper of the Lamb as vessels unto honour in His House in honour of Him which is why we look to Him to run that race to lay aside every weight & sin.

2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

Believers that do not look to the author & finisher of our faith to help them lay aside every weight & sin and thus has not departed from inqiuity before the Bridegroom comes, will be liken unto the prodigal son that gave up his first inheritance for wild living and be left behind from attending the Marriage Supper because they are vessels unto "dishonour" in His House.... but due note, they are still in His House, but left behind to face the coming great tribulation as He will finish His work in them as well.

What is your understanding of this passage: 1 Tim 4:1- Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. You can't say they were never saved to begin with because the devil will not deceive the unsaved to depart from a faith they never had.
1. Don't you think there are some that leave the Christian faith due to influence from false doctrines?
2. If one departs from the faith, are they still saved? Can I depart from Russia if I was never in Russia? Can I depart from Russia and still be there?
3. Why are there warnings in the scripture concerning falling away, departing from the faith, taking heed lest you fall, be sober and vigilant, etc., if there is no possibility of believers falling away? Are they just suggestions?

How about this one: 2 Cor 6:1- We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
1. Was the above message directed to nonbelievers or believers?
2. Can a believer live in such a way that shows that they received the grace of God in vain?

Parable of the Ten Virgins
Matt 25:10-12
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Notice that the Bridegroom did not say "I never knew you", but "I know you not", unlike the false prophets parable in Matt 7:23 where He says "I never knew you". This implies that the foolish virgins once knew Jesus.
They were all virgins waiting for the bridegroom, but why were the foolish ones left behind? If the foolish virgins were eternally secured, they would have still gone with the Bridegroom to the marriage. We see that their action (their carelessness, spiritual laxity) disqualified them from the marriage. Our conduct does matter after salvation. They were foolish but still called ‘virgins’ kind of like the term ‘carnal Christians’. Nowhere in that chapter does it say that the foolish virgins were eternally secured and entered the kingdom but only lost rewards.

Paul was running the spiritual race and knew he could be disqualified if he ran carelessly:1 Cor 9:27- But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

This is an account of the Israelites' journey, and Paul said it is an admonition for the brethren: 1 Cor 10:11-12
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
The church in Corinth wouldn’t have been given such admonition if falling was not a possibility.

James 5:19-2019 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

A believer can err from the truth and become lost. If you correct them and they repent, they will be forgiven and you have saved their soul from the second death. Not only does this prove that a believer can backslide, it proves that a believer can end up in hell because of sin. I don't see loss of eternal rewards for sins in that passage.

Let’s examine this passage on discipline: 1 Cor 11:32- But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. Notice it says “should not be condemned” not “cannot be condemned”. So the purpose of chastening from the Lord is that the believer repents and returns to the Lord so that they won’t be condemned. If they don’t repent, they will be condemned with unbelievers (the world). Heb 12:10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. We are chastened to be holy and verse 14 says that without peace and holiness no man shall see God (Heb 12:14). Therefore what happens to those that do not heed His chastening?

Once again, this is the message from the Lord Jesus directed to believers: Rev 3:5- He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
If a believer does not overcome, their name will be blotted out from the book of life.

I believe people can know Christ and then choose to reject him but I don't believe Christians should live their lives in constant fear thinking they're not saved because they struggle and fall to this or that sin. Saved by grace, confirmed by faith.

I agree with you 100 percent. It is the "rejecting" of God's guidance which causes the fear, not the race which contains pitfalls.

Read the second & third post in this thread and it will address your contention proving that salvation is not lost, but the rewards of being that vessel unto honour in His House to attend the Marriage Supper is.

Jesus was not talking about believers practising lawlessness or being evil doers in the general sense that those modern Bibles seem to imply, but this iniquity for not heeding the commandment of His invitation when believers gives out an invitation to the Holy Spirit as if He is another means to come to God the Father by.

The proof is seeing the end result of this iniquity when Jesus explains in Matthew 7:24-27 about how those that heed the His words, (which I have applied it to the commandment of His invitation), are building their houses on the rock and those that do not heed His words, are building His House on sand when they disregard the plainness of John 14:6-7 in how we are to relate to God the Father through the Son in exchange for seeking to relate to the Father by way of the "Spirit".

Do not many houses fall in these slain in the spirit movement? Do they not fall in the holy laughter movement? The Toronoto Blessing? The Pensacola Outpouring? Any movement of what they claim to be the Holy Spirit coming with signs and believers fall down in is the result of believers climbing up another way in coming to God the Father by way of the Spirit which is not really the indwelling Holy Spirit that we know of personally.

Anyway, I believe the application of Matt 7:24-27 is that foolish Christians build their life on poor foundation by just hearing the word of God but not obeying it so on Judgment day they will be told "Depart from me".
Conversely, the wise ones build their life on Jesus, the solid rock, by obeying His commands, and following the leading of the Holy Spirit, thus He will keep them from falling and they will inherit the kingdom of God. The scripture says in James 1:22 "But be ye doers [obey] of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves".

Secondly, if the purpose of your Law Keepers thread is to show that Christians won't go to hell for unrepentant sins, then that's untrue. The idea that it is just unbelief that sends people to hell is a dangerous one; other sins will send people, including Christians, to hell too. Here is what the scripture says...

So if a professed Christian is a drunkard, adulterer, liar, etc., they will have their part in the lake of fire, not loss of eternal rewards.

Lastly, the folks of Matt 7:22-23 never had a salvation experience that's why Jesus said "I never knew you", however the foolish virgins once had an authentic salvation experience (they were just foolish). Jesus did not say "I never knew you" to them but "I know you not" meaning that He didn't know them anymore. Nowwhy didn't the foolish ones just lose eternal rewards for their carelessness? In obeying the commandment of His invitation in John 14:6 of which is related to knowing the Son & thus knowing the Father. Being a doer of the word and not hearers only in Matthew 7:24-27 is referring to Matthew 7:13-14. May the Lord help you to see that with Luke 13:24 where in context of Luke 13:24-30, Jesus says, "I know ye not whence ye are" identifying the iniquity as by the route the believers have been taking in relating to God the Father other than by way of the Son, thus broadening the way by including the Spirit as if He is another "Go To" Person of the Triune God when He is not, but the Comforter as dwelling within us. Only the man, Jesus Christ is at that throne of grace.

Then you explain the promise in John 6:39 of the OP where it is the will of the Father that Jesus lose nothing of all the Father has given Him, and yet it was prophesied that there will be a falling away from the faith in 1 Timothy 4:1-2.

Saying they were never saved is inconsistent when they were of faith to be falling away from.

That is why God is judging His House first ( 1 Peter 4:17-19). What we build on that foundation will be judged as in burned with fire, but that foundation will remain because Jesus will lose nothing of all the Father has given Him.

It is because every believer have been bought with a price and sealed as His for coming to and believing in Jesus Christ, even those that believe in His name, that they are saved: John 1:12-13 Their body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Anyone that defiles the temple of God with wood, stubble,& hay will be destroyed ( 1 Corinthians 3:10-23) from being that vessel unto honour to that vessel unto dishonour in His House( 2 Timothy 2:20 ) unless they repent ( 2 Timothy 2:21) before the Bridegroom comes by looking to the author & finisher of our faith to help them lay aside every weight & sin ( Hebrews 12:1-29) so that they may remain abiding in Him to be chosen for the Marriage Supper of the Lamb in His honour ( John 15:1-16 & Luke 12:40-49).
