This discussion came up in the bible study room. According to the Bible can we live a life without sin.

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Rom 7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
Rom 7:16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
Rom 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

It's a tough subject so I posted a couple scriptures that may support both sides. Give your thought with Scripture.

Well the way i see it Jesus died on the cross because he knew we were trapped by sin. When he died and rose again and went to heaven and gave us the holy spirit a door busted open. We can live a righteous life in the lords eyes by what we say and think in our hearts. A heart that truly loves the lord with every fiber of it's being to me is a life without sin. Because the lord searches the hearts of man not deed. Even the man of sin can do (Good deed) but his heart is black.

Of course we can - if we have perfect faith. Is that possible? Yes. Probable? No.

yes we can. ALL of mankind could be free and sinless TODAY if we desired it. There'd be no more crime, hunger, poverty, sickness, and even death.

Will you help me?

There's a lot of misunderstanding of scripture because of misunderstanding what is "sin".

"Sin" is not bad behavior.

Instead, we find sin is defined in scripture as:
Transgression of the law, 1John 3:4.
Unrighteousness, 1John 5:17.
Unbelief, John 16:9.

In the examples of sin above we see that Christians do not sin.

We're not under the law (Rom 8:2, Rom 10:4, Gal 5:18, Gal 3:25, 1Tim 1:9), hence we cannot be charged with it's transgression.

Our faith is counted for righteousness (Rom 4:5) so we cannot be charged with this sin.

We believe in Jesus, hence we cannot be charged with this sin.

So we find that Christians cannot be charged with sin.
Rom 8:33
Who shall lay any thing (even sin) to the charge of God elect? It is God that justifieth.

Christians have "ceased from sin", 1Pet 4:1, "cannot sin", 1John 3:9, as soon as they receive Jesus.

Now as for that imperfect physical part of us, it's already dead (by faith) because of sin.
Rom 8:10
if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin.

Hence our imperfect physical lifestyle is not how we are judged whether we are righteous or not.
And nobody is going to profit by doing wrong.
Fortunately our behavior is not what determines if we're righteous, because if it was then nobody would be saved.
Instead our faith is counted for righteousness, Rom 4:5.

Interesting way of putting it:] However i do not believe in the once saved always saved belief. To me sinning is doing what we know is against god, even christians can sin. But the question is are going to condemn ourselves for it or try to do better next time? All god asks of us is to try and love.

Even the righteous will fall at times during the course of their lives. Christ has indeed come to set the captive free, to open the blind eyes, and unstop the deaf ears(both physically and spiritually). Yet if we are honest we still fall short in all of our relationships, in regards to patience, understanding and temperance. Reconciliation to God through Christ has removed the hostility and enmity we have towards a Sovereign God. When we fail in our actions to imitate Christ we have the option to either face our Merciful and Compassionate Father or turn away from His face due to shame or rebellion. I encourage everyone to face our Father and be reconciled to Him. It is His will for us to be able to approach Him and be reconciled to Him. Deliverance from sin is an ongoing process(somethings immediate others longer struggles and occasional relapses). It the Prince of peace that forgives and delivers.

That's just a bad interpretation. BS as I call it. Christians cannot continue in sin because GOD's seed remains in them and convicts them to turn around before they get into serious trouble. Unbelievers do not have this gift and march on onto oblivion.

Iwant2serve, how long have I been saying this? And this message came WAY before I was born, so it was NOT me that started all this perfect here on Earth thing! It was God and His Son that came and said... Be perfect...

Some here reckon a Christian CAN STILL sin, or they make it out a Christian does not CONTINUE to sin.... Well the truth is this.... God says if you are BORN of GOD then you CANNOT sin, because His SEED remaineth in you. And I believe this with all my heart...

I think for too long REBIRTH, born again and BORN OF GOD, was presented falsly to us.... Satan had people believe the moment you START repenting, you are BORN AGAIN... but that is not Scripture teaching, it is false teachers.... Jesus said this...... but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

What did a freshly repenting man ENDURE? Nothing YET... He has to learn how to live a life that will make the WORLD hate him, and God will love Him.... He has to learn to keep the COMMANDS of God, without FOLLOWING THE LAW, but fulfilling it with FAITH FOLLOWING THE LEAD OF THE HOLY SPIRIT....

Such a TRUE repenting heart, does n ot want to sin, and by following the LEAD of the Holy Spirit this man will overcome ALL SIN IN HIS LIFE... The Truth (God's Word) WILL be known by him and this Truth SHALL MAKE HIM FREE! Free to live a righteous life in Christ right here on earth!

That is why thos is written in the Bible...

1 John 3:9. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

also 1 Joh 5:18...

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

I'm not suggesting OSAS.

Believers cannot sin because there is no sin that can be charged against them, as the scriptures I quoted earlier show.

In believing in Jesus they are righteous (Rom 4:5), sanctified Heb 10:10), holy (Rom 11:16), justified by faith without deeds of the law (Rom 3:28).

If a Christian turns back to the law to determine righteousness then they are in unbelief/sin.
Gal 2:18
if I build again the things which I destroyed (righteousness by works of the law), I make myself a transgressor/Sinner.

This is tantamount to antinomianism
That's just a label someone made up to denounce those who disagree with his error doctrine.

Believers should just keep to God's word.

The fact is scripture clearly describes believers in the following terms;
Righteous, Rom 4:5
Sanctified, Heb 10:10
Holy, Rom 11:16
Perfected, Heb 10:14
And "cannot sin", 1John 3:9.

Col 2:10
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

And as we are complete in him, nobody, not even Satan the accuser, can charge us with anything (even sin).
Rom 8:33.
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

Would you stop already, please. We sin until the day we die -- I'm not talking about getting drunk every day and swearing and stealing, I'm talking about thought sins, not loving others as much as we should, falling short of perfect love....These "littler" sins we will always commit because we are not able to demonstrate perfect righteousness and love on earth -- we will in heaven, but our condition is still marked by sin while we live here. Being perfect was what Christ was on earth and ONLY Christ. No mere man can be as Christ was while on earth.
I hope you are not preaching that this is untrue and you can be free of ALL and every KIND of sin. That is not happening..

And please don't confuse my acknowledgment of sin till the day you die with WANTING and LOVING to sin. I repent every day and pray that I am perfect or get to as close to perfect as I can before I die, but for every sin I commit and left not defeated, Jesus died for, if you are saying otherwise then you are undermining His accomplished work on the cross and adding/taking away from what He did.

I see there is some discrepency in what we are calling sin and maybe the OP should clarify.

Are we defining sin as breaking one of God's commands or anything not done in faith or...?
The answer can differ depending on the specific definition of sin.

We Are not in the kingdom age yet. Thats why it's called the dispensation of grace. We should refrain from sin as best we can. The tempter is always before us and we think things and say things. The tongue is the one that often gets us in trouble. But, with our faith firmly placed in the work of the cross, we can live a life that is not ruled by sin. Think of it, before you were saved, you were ruled by sin. You enjoyed it, Relished in it. rolled in in it like a pig in slop. But, when you got saved, you detested it. Hated it, and wanted to be away from it. Right?

Amen! That's a good summary of a true believer.
