I think this tendency was obviously present in the early church - to try and live according to the laws of Moses. And to make Gentiles do the same!
Paul got very upset about it and came to Jerusalem for the first church council in Acts 15
"[SUP]5 [/SUP]But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees rose up and said, “It is necessary to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses.” Acts 15:5
Then the apostles and elders considered this matter. This is what they said:
"The apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider this matter. [SUP]7 [/SUP]And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. [SUP]8 [/SUP]And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, [SUP]9 [/SUP]and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. [SUP]10 [/SUP]Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?[SUP]11 [/SUP]But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.” Acts 15:6-11
In the end, the resolved to do 4 things, most of which do not apply to us today (except the sexual immorality of course! Always abstain from that!)
"Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, [SUP]20 [/SUP]but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood.” Acts 15:19-21
Then they wrote a letter to the Gentile Believers, telling them the above 4 things, and the whole thing was OVER!!
So why, Red Tent, do you keep bringing this up over and over??? It is finished! Jesus finished keeping the Old Testament laws on the cross. Paul brought the other apostles into line and said, "If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well." Acts 15:29b
Please read the New Testament, Judaisers and you will get your answers!
