Born Again & the Righteousness of God:

When a person repents of their sins or asks Jesus Christ to save them from their sin, whereby they accept Christ as their personal Savior (Believing that He died on the cross, was buried 3 days, and was risen from the grave), they are born again spiritually and Christ imputes His righteousness or the righteousness of God to you and you are saved.

We Are Not Righteous:

Isaiah 64:6

"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

Romans 3:9-12
"What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one."

Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"

Repentance & Acceptance of Jesus Christ:

Repentance is a part of believing in Jesus Christ. For Jesus Christ preached people to repent. For He said,

"Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
(Matthew 4:17)
"I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
(Luke 13:5)

For Jesus taught about repentance in the Parable of the Tax Collector (Publican) and the Pharisee:

"Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted."
(Luke 18:10-14)

Matthew 4:17
– “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

This was His message from the beginning of His ministry.

Mark 1:14-15 – “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, [15] And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Jesus taught that repentance is not only to forgive us of our sins but it is also to sin no more, too.

John 8:10-11
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, 'Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?' She said, 'No man, Lord.' And Jesus said unto her, 'Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.'

Matthew 27:3 KJV says that Judas “repented”, when he returned the 30 pieces of silver for betraying Jesus. He said: “I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood.”

However, was that "true repentance"?
What did Judas do next?
Well, he went out and hanged himself!

Why?
He was sorry … but it was not a "Godly Sorrow."
He was "sorry" he did wrong …
"sorry" he got caught …
"sorry" it turned out the way it did.
But … "Repentance" is when you bring your sins to Jesus. Judas never did that.

For the Bible says, "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:" (1 John 2:1). "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9).

"If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." (1 John 1:6-8).

After Repentance & Accepting Jesus - God Imputes His Righteousness to us:
(Then we continue to abide in His righteousness):

Philippians 3:9

"And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith."

2 Corinthians 5:21
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

1 Peter 2:24
"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed"

Romans 3:22
"Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:"

Romans 5:19
"For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous."

Romans 10:3-4
"For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth."

Jeremiah 33:16
"In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness."

Isaiah 45:24
"Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed."

Isaiah 61:10
"I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels."

Born Again:

(After Repentance & Acceptance of Jesus we are Born Again or Saved):
(This Salvation or Entrance into the Kingdom is a quick event):
(Note: While this involved baptism, others had the Spirit (salvation) without baptism and Jesus forgave sins on the spot):

Acts 2:41

"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls."

The New Birth:

(The spiritual regeneration of believers):

2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

John 3:3
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

John 3:6
"That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."

John 3:9-10
"Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?"

John 3:14-15
"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life."

John 1:12-13
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

Matthew 18:3
"Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall NOT ENTER into the kingdom of heaven."

Ezekiel 36:26-27
"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them."

2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

John 6:60-61,63-64a
"Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? ...It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not...."

1 Peter 1:23
"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."

WASHING:

John 3:5
"…Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

A. Born of the Spirit:

Titus 3:4-6

"But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;"

B. Born of Water:

Ephesians 5:25-26

"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,"

John 17:17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth
(The word “sanctify” and “water” is mentioned in Numbers 27:14).

John 15:3
"Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you"

Additional Verses on Washing:

John 9:11

"He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight."

Revelation 1:5
"And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,"

This new birth leads a person in:

Keeping All of God’s Words:

John 14:23-24

" Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep [ALL] my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me."

Luke 9:26
"For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.

For without the new birth, you can't do it.
Jesus said you need to be born again. This is a quick event that many have partaken in.

Anyways, may God bless you all; And I hope these verses were helpful for you.

In the parables: Jesus relates that which is spiritual with our physical world so as to illustrate the truth to us. Think. How long does the actual process of birth take? Is being born (i.e. a woman giving birth to a child) a long and dragged out event always? Or do babies become born into this world quickly? For Jesus said, that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit. Meaning there was a one time event when you were born into this world physically, just as there needs to be a one time event where you need to be born again spiritually. Does that mean we can just turn around and live however we like? No, no. Most certainly not. David cried out to God in Psalm 51 not to take the Holy Spirit from him. Repenting of your sins and accepting Christ is being born again spiritually. Then it becomes a walk with God. A relationship. The walk is not being born again. One is born again, enters the kingdom of God thru accepting Christ. That's the first step.

Side Note:

Oh, and being in the womb for approximately 9 months is not the process of being born, either. That is a different process. Being born is when a person comes out from their mother's womb and enters this world. Your birth certificate testifies to this fact when it provides the time when you were born and not how long you been in your mother's womb.
