Really?

If you don't like BDF you don't have to come to this forum. (And I am not saying leave CC. I'm saying if we don't like a place avoid it. And BDF is just one section of a bigger place, so avoid the section.)

But to cut a broad swath like that is unfair. BDF if my place to go when I need to learn something big. Or even if I need to learn something small. The tables are rickety. Some of the chairs are missing a leg. There's a gap in some of the windows which brings about a draft that chills me. BUT I'm still willing to come here because some of the patrons have helped me. Don't tell me shut it down because it doesn't fit your need.
Hey ...I told ya to stay out of my house while I'm away.

I absolutely love that scripture in 1 Peter 4:17-18. When you look at that scripture in context - it starts in verse 12 where Peter is talking to Christians about the fiery ordeals they are going through because they are Christians and being reviled ( that fits in with some behaviors we see in the BDF from time to time )

The scripture in 1 Peter 4:17-18 about judgment in the house of God must come first is a beautiful promise of the sealing of God's people off before judgment comes.

1 Peter 4:17-18 (KJV)

[SUP]17[/SUP] For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

[SUP]18 [/SUP] And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

Peter was the apostle to the Hebrews and Peter being a good Jewish man would have heard this spoken of in the OT..." judgment must begin at the house of God".

It is a hebraism ( expression ) from Ezekiel 9:4-6 in which they had set aside the jewish elders and marked them before judgment came....these ones were saved from the judgment that was coming.

In other words we get protected/marked by the Spirit of God before judgment comes ..but judgment starts at the house of God first by us being "marked"...that's the sign that judgment is coming to the ungodly as 1 Peter 4:17-18 says.

It's awesome!! it's a beautiful picture of us being sealed by the Holy Spirit.

We have a good, good Father! and a mighty salvation in Jesus our Lord!

1 Peter 4:17-18 makes me jump for joy and kneel before my Father in thanksgiving for the love and grace He has shown us in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Where did you come up with that? It doesn't fit at all.
Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary
17. Another ground of consolation to Christians. All must pass under the judgment of God; God's own household first, their chastisement being here, for which they should glorify Him as a proof of their membership in His family, and a pledge of their escape from the end of those whom the last judgment shall find disobedient to the Gospel.the time—Greek, "season," "fit time."judgment must begin at the house of God—the Church of living believers. Peter has in mind Eze 9:6; compare Am 3:2; Jer 25:29. Judgment is already begun, the Gospel word, as a "two-edged sword," having the double effect of saving some and condemning others, and shall be consummated at the last judgment. "When power is given to the destroyer, he observes no distinction between the righteous and the wicked; not only so, but he begins first at the righteous" [Wetstein from Rabbins]. But God limits the destroyer's power over His people.if … at us, what shall the end be of them, &c.—If even the godly have chastening judgments now, how much more shall the ungodly be doomed to damnatory judgments at last.gospel of God—the very God who is to judge them.Matthew Poole's Commentary
For the time is come; or season, viz. that which is fixed by God: the afflictions that befall God’s people come in the time appointed, and so are never unseasonable. Or this may imply, that what the prophets spoke in their time, Isaiah 10:12Jeremiah 25:29, doth especially agree to gospel times, viz. that judgment begins at the house of God.

Judgment; viz. temporary, and for good, in opposition to the destructive judgment he implies in the latter part of the verse; he means all those afflictions God brings upon his children for their correction, trial, instruction, mortification, 1 Corinthians 11:31,32.

Must begin at the house of God; the church of God, and the members of it, called here his house, as 1 Timothy 3:15 Hebrews 3:6, and typified by the material house or temple of God under the Old Testament.

What shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? How miserable, how dreadful will be the end of all those that would not obey the gospel! Implying, that they shall be in a much worse condition if God take them in hand. If he spare not his children, much less will he his enemies. If the one sip of the cup of God’s wrath, the other shall wring out the dregs, and drink them, Psalm 75:8.

Your "version" doesn't line up with the commentaries, nor the context of this scripture at all.

The "judgement" spoken of against the ungodly is the same word used against the church. It's not a good thing at all.

Every time I check your posts like this for accuracy, they fail. You always seem to have something positive to illustrate for the end for the christian when in fact all throught the NT harsh warnings & judgments are found. Your posts sound more like what Joel Osteen would say.

The BDF is a necessary function of a site like CC just like dropping a deuce is a necessary function of the human body. Both serve a function, but neither are particularly pleasant.

The day has not ended and the name calling has began again in the "carry your cross" post #27
I know.....Just like someone said earlier, some believe they're sent by God just to do this stuff.

And he'll get by with it too. They always do.

Pot meet kettle..,,,ah Oncefallen I don't know how you resist banning both so folks can have their "example" punishments.

Bann everyone for a day if they make an ad hominem attacks? Or warning via pm then bann?

Or maybe folks could try something different and Biblical like forgive one another..,lay down grudges with the setting sun and not gossip about others or pull up hurtful comments because they havent listen to God and are still angry and hurt?

No that would be too logical and Biblical. That might actually show the world that mature Christians are different. No folks would rather be bitter and mad because they didn't get banned or get the other person banned....

Wait, they weren't trying to get banned?

Wow could have fooled me.

It is RARELY my intention to view or post in the BDF, maybe if I post a new thread and there seems nowhere else suitable I might but otherwise I'm simply "sent" there by the "new posts/threads" on the right hand side of the home page simply because a topic has caught my eye - that is how I read or respond to threads on CC. I never intentionally go to the BDF because I generally know what I'm going to get! Maybe these new posts/threads should state where they are going to take you when you click on them or maybe just a health warning would suffice!

This is "good news" for the BDF and it is a great reminder for all of us.

I think I will stick with the gospel and the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank God Jesus took our judgment on the cross. I love the fact that before judgment comes - the Lord seals and protects those that are His. I think that qualifies as good news for a BDF forum.

The true gospel of the grace of Christ is truly wonderful and it makes us fall in love with our Lord and His grace teaches us to walk righteously in this world. - not religion.

John 5:24 (NASB)
[SUP]24 [/SUP] "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

The meaning of " the gospel" is "the nearly too good to be true news."

Jesus said to repent and believe the gospel. There is real life in Christ alone.

Mark 1:15 (NASB)
[SUP]15 [/SUP] and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

The bdf has always been a place having a well known reputation for being a war zone however In the past year or two it has escalated beyond belief we have brother condemning brother and sister mocking sister we have attacks left and right and we all are guilty in some manner including me. How can we claim to stand for the truth when the truth is not shown in us by are constant squabbling? Yes there will always be times when we get into heated debates and names are called and scripture is thrown as a weapon such is human nature and discussion of scripture but in all honesty this is getting way to out of hand.

Even oncefallen saw and described the depth of the issue and many of us complain about the issue but what do we do about? It begins and ends with us and all it takes is for all of us to at least try to be more civil to respond more in humbleness and love and when you are attacked or called a name try to turn the other cheek, we claim to be Christians and to be love to stand for the truth and to show the heart of who God is maybe it's time we prove this.

Most of us are full grown adults and so we need to wise up and stop acting like children
Ban Pharisaic legalists -- problem solved.

I think you missed my point:

If I, as a new member, enter the forums and see

- These are the rules: blabla

- This is our statement of faith: "Jesus died for our sins but we do not believe in _____ (ie "hyper grace" , aliens whatever else we end up discussing over and over )

... then I know that discussing _____ in this forum is pointless... , and maaaybe, just maaaybe ONE new member will refrain from starting a debate on it :p
A new member took part in a debate the other day and it was suggested that since he was new here he should refrain from expressing certain thoughts until he's been here longer. I guess being in his 50s means nothing; one needs to be on CC for a while before reserving the right to speak about godly issues. So sad.

You know what - I'm sick to death of seeing good people being set upon on the BDF.
There are none good, except one; Matthew 19:17. The ones always pointing to their wool outer layer are generally wearing wolves Under Armour; Matthew 7:15. :)

It would seem to me that no one feels the need to study, converse or debate anymore, it's all about "you're wrong and I'm right". If someone posts something they don't agree with it then resorts to their CHRISTIAN BROTHER or SISTER doing their utmost to "prove" them wrong or make them look foolish.
Seriously? I'm reminded of Romans 2:3 here...

Each must police themselves. God ministers in the heart.

Believers testify of what Christ has done for them. Believers are not called to testify of what others must do to suit them.

For the cause of Christ
Roger
The mods should police people alright. When pious people tell professing Christians that they're not Christian but rather children of the devil then those pious people should be banned.

BDF won't change unless acted upon by mods. The BDF is full of ego drive , self appointed teachers eager to assault people's faith, dignity, character and salvation for disagreeing with their ultra-enlightened, singular truth. Ego that big will not stop itself because it never sees it's own wrongs, only everyone else's. Makes me think of a bunch of Sauls.
Spot on accuracy with this post.

We have quite a few people that think that BDF is a personal ministry. If anyone disagrees they get nasty very quickly. You see a lot of threads that pose a question "what do you think...?" and when you answer they slam the hammer down. They didn't want your opinion, they wanted to give their opinion which is,of course,is the right opinion. To me that is being false. Why not just say "here's my opinion,if you disagree Im going to go nuclear? "
Everyone's entitled to my opinion. :p

I give credit to the mods for not banning me long ago. I proclaim God's love and saving grace in an encouraging manner that helps people who are weak in faith. Its when Pharisees act as stumbling blocks and shut out the Kingdom of Heaven against others that I go nuclear.

Everyone's entitled to my opinion. :p

There are roughly 32 thousand scriptures in the bible...does that give room for someone's opinion?

The trouble may lie in presentation.....just my opinion..;)

Banning people helps sometimes, banning ip address helps more. However trolls will still make new accounts and find ways around the bann. Also some people really believe they are doing God's work so will still find ways to log back on.

Personally I don't think swinging the bann hammer more will solve everything.
If I get banned I'm coming back as, I-Hate-Pharisees.

But don't tell anyone; it'll be our secret.

ROFL I nominate brother Utah for moderator. With he and Lady Blue as mods it would be like a bouncy castle full of hand grenades. They'd get rid of a lot of the "problems" around here. :)
