Satan and Sickness

Sometimes we hear of one who is stricken with some deadly disease.
He is taken to a healing meeting and, seemingly at least, is completely
restored. Can this possibly be of Satan? Why not?...

...One of the saddest aspects of modern healing campaigns is the long,
sad trail of disillusionment and shaken faith it leaves behind...

...If one fundamentalist believer can use this [great?] commission to teach
water baptism, why should not another use it to teach snake handling, for
this commission distinctly says:

These signs SHALL follow them that believe...they shall take up serpents....”

If the commission to the eleven is our commission, let’s obey it all. It is not
our prerogative to decide what part or parts of this commission we are to obey,
and to ignore the rest....

...What an apostate system teaches, however, is not our chief concern.
We are more deeply concerned about Bible-believing Christians, who
are true to the fundamentals of the faith. Until these learn the importance
of dispensational truth and begin to rightly divide God’s Word, especially as
to His message for the world today and His program for the Church today,
they will be forced—self-forced—to go on serving the Lord as a divided army.

I believe in faith healing by prayer of Sanctified believers laying on hands, anointing and praying over one who is ill.

I do not believe in the numerous Televangelists who claim to be able to heal almost anyone of almost anything.

As for the "taking up serpents," and "drinking poison" scripture. This is so very misused by folks who know no better. This passage simply means that if by accident one should grab onto a snake, like when gathering wood or some such, that God will protect them from serious harm. Just as if someone ingests a poisonus substance by accident, God will protect them as well.

Disclaimer: As long as it is Gods will to do so!

It has not one thing to do with people intentionally playing with snakes and drinking a poison. Such as these are "testing God," and IMO, deserve what they get for doing so.

GRACE And Peace...
To the one who says "let's obey it all," my question is this: have you ever stumbled, using your hand or eye? If so, then why haven't you cut off your hand or gouged out your eye? (Mat. 5:30). The problem with cults is that they take statements out of context of the whole message and use it wrongly. Yet, most Christians do the same thing, which divides them from the rest of the universal church. And so each divided group has rituals they perform (or things they teach) that distinguish them from other Christians. Their unspoken claim in doing so is "this thing I am doing makes me a special Christian, over and above everyone else who doesn't do this thing." "This thing I am doing shows that I have the Holy Spirit, or I am closer to God than you who don't do this thing." And because that "thing" once increased the dopamines in their brain, causing them to feel euphoria, they become evangelists for the thing they do. They think that if what they did made them feel that good, it has to be God. And thus, cults are born and propagated.

So why does this happen to so many people? One of the most amazing things about the human mind is the gullibility of something first heard of, and the difficulty of changing the mind when the truth finally shows up. The trouble with most people is that they are too lazy to study scripture and figure out the meaning of it all, so they choose to follow some deceiver who claims to know what he is talking about (and seems so because he has persuasive words and passionate behavior). This is why most Christians can't discern truth from error.
