1 Thessalonians 5
23 May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body
be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Baptism, Born again, how are they connected?
Hi again Azawah, I assume that you are referring to "water" baptism, yes? (also, it probably wouldn't hurt to define what "born again" means, since there are several definitions/understandings of it floating around these boards).

That said, where baptism and being born again ~connect~ depends upon the church/denomination and what they believe concerning water baptism. For instance, the RCC, EOC, OOC, Lutherans, as well a couple of the Protestant churches, believe that the waters of baptism are salvific (even for infants in the case of the traditional churches), such that God causes you to be "born again" or "regenerated" or "made alive" or "quickened" to spiritual life when you are baptized in water.

I'll stop here to make sure that we are on the same page concerning the two principle terms.

Born again... John 3:16... Roman's 10...believing in Jesus that He is God and that He died and rose again, that He can forgive your sins.

Baptism... by full immersion in water. After salvation. Declaring you are living for Jesus publicly.

Someone could believe and be saved and get baptized many years later.. or not get baptized at all but they would still be saved. In the bible though, people were baptized pretty much straight after belief

The phrase "born again" means "born from above." This occurs upon acceptance of the shed righteous blood of Jesus to pay your sin debt. Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit, which joins every believer to the body of Christ.

Christ explained to Nicodemus about being born again and Nicodemus was a master of the law yet he didn't understand as we don't still to this very day!
So if I may I would like to reveal the understanding the Holy Spirit gave to me because Christ said:
John 14:26
[26]But the Comforter, which is the holy Ghost, whom the Father wil send in my name, he shal teach you al things, & bring al things to your remembrance, whatsoeuer I haue said vnto you.

IMO I believe to be BORN-AGIN one must accept Jn3:16 as the supreme expression of God's love for ALL people! We then see our sinfulness as God sees it and repent, and ask Him to forgive us. We then confess our relationship with God before man! Then we begin a journey of FAITH by walking in His word and being intimate with Him in prayer! I have been fully immersed in water dieing to the old sinful man as I was under and raising to the New man as I came up,in representing Jesus burial and resurrection! Jesus gave us many examples to follow to do the Fathers will! The word of God is His inspired written manual for us. Baptism in the Holy Ghost is the operation of God Jesus sent back as He promised at His ascention! He is the third diety of the triune God we serve! He has functions that are described in the word to help us finish this race of faith! Being filled is such an awesome sweet experience for me! I would that ALL the family of God share such! I can only speak from my experience and understanding as I walk with God! I would advise a deep intimate study of the word and prayer with Him! Take no man's advise not mine truly but seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened!Blessings!🌞🌞🌞

Christ answered:
John 3:3
[3]Iesus answered, and said vnto him, Uerily, verily I say vnto thee, except a man be borne againe, he cannot see the kingdome of God.

My question is, is how were we born the first time if we must be born again the same way the second time?

I see water baptism as an outward testimony of the inward renewal/ the new creation. It’s symbolic of the washing away of sin.

It is also humbling to be dunked in front of everyone. Some people feel too proud, nervous, etc and cringe at the thought. But if Jesus was willing to be whipped, spat at, punished for something He did not do, humiliated etc. Then the least we can do is align ourselves to Him in baptism.

If it was good enough for Jesus it’s good enough for me. 🙂

The first birth is the natural birth. Born into a sin nature, not knowing God. The fleshy birth.

Being born again is a spiritual birth, becoming alive spiritually this becoming a new creation.

We are body (in my case this 5’1” frame with purple hair!).
Soul (my mind my personality)
Spirit (which is dead until we are born again).

First,we are born a natural sinful man thru the birth of flesh. Your mother gave birth to you ,did she not? Then we must be God again of the spiritual birth crucifying the nature of sin we are born with naturally,to be born again spiritually of God!! I cannot say it plainer, sorry if this doesn't help! Blessings🌞🌞🌞

What makes you think it is "the same way"? Take some time to study John 3 carefully.
