Stripped out of the chapter, it sounds like nothing. It in itself is not a rebuke, but in the context of the chapter Paul is either gently rebuking the Corinthians, or at least correcting something they are doing wrong with respect to spiritual gifts.
What I mean by decency and order is the guidelines for practicing spiritual gifts as set by Paul to the church at Corinth
YES, fully agree - amen

those who attack the gifts of the Holy Spirit today are really only a few types :

  • those who have been hurt by those who operated the gift in error, immaturity, and ignorance, or for money
  • those who were made to feel sub -Christian, unsaved, or inferior to those who have the gifts.
It is not rooted in sound biblical teaching. But is secular humanism and liberal Christianity that look to control people.

The lifestyle of many in relation to the word of God is to Get as much knowledge of God's word as you can, then get more.

For what? To have the knowledge. But there is no applying it to life. The whole mission is to get more knowledge. This is the same error as those who seek the gifts for self-gain. Knowledge without wisdom is foolishness. eat from the tree of knowledge and learn how unwise one is. Just like those who seek the gifts of the Holy Spirit for self-gain they are both two sides of the same coin.

2 Timothy 3:3-7 says it all.

3 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households (church)and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

they know !!!! so they claim. they shout of canonization and no longer need of the gifts of the Holy Spirit because it is not seen anymore ..... so they say. They scoff and mock those who say they have seen and pull out ( not from the word of God)

But use :

secular humanism, seek out other cults and pagan practices and try to associate it with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

When you show them in the word of God why you believe it is for today they have not a Biblical refute, no, they have attacks on one's character and faith in God.

Even when we agree with them of the abuses of those who are on TV. Yet Some would not even agree if they saw the gifts in operation correctly because they feel uncomfortable when they are in operation. But those same chritians will sit in a baseball game and football game of the MLB & NFL and not be embarrassed of the drunkness displayed in front of their own child or women who are dressed cheaply, cussing, drinking, and on and on. That is ok. That ok you know HJesu hung out with drunks.

Yes, but he Led to salvation and did not leave the stadium with them lost. How many Christians at an NFL game have led people to Christ? Compared to church on a Sunday morning?

Well you are not an Apostle to correct Scripture which i often find in those who reject Scripture.

The Truth Challenge is to Prove - either YES or NO - by Scripture ITSELF

So please search the Scriptures, like the Bereans, and bring forth from Scripture what you find.

Please help yourself and review the evidence from Scripture that some Members here have provided as well.
This has nothing to do with reject the scripture. I said only that I cant find the teaching which is mostly given from those who claime that the So called sign gifts has not stopped, special the gift of speaking in tongue is combined or the proof that someone has got the baptism with the Holy Spirit taught in the bible to other Christians. There is no scripture reference for this teaching.
And it is obvious that this gifts were given to special people for an special time.

How many Christian's actually go by the guidelines in how tongues and prophecy actually should be practiced?

If the sign gifts are for now.. they would be operating in decency and order.
Your reasoning is flawed. If Christians followed the Bible's instruction regarding marriage, all Christians called to marriage would be happily married (or widowed). Does that mean marriage is not for today either?

Well at first, when we speak from cessation of gifts then are only is talking about the do called sign gifts, speaking in tongues, healing and prophecie. So far I know there is no doubt that all other gifts are still today as the Holy Spirit gives it.
Since we have the the whole bible. Prophecie in the church as it was during the time without the bible is not nesassary. But this means not that there is no prophecie today.
Of course can God today prophetic words. In a broader sense all preaching from word of God can be used from the Hoky Spirit as a prophetische word in a special situation of a believer.
The same with the gift of healing. Of course is God heals today and often he uses this gift in Mission situation, means preaching the gospel or praying for unbelievers.
About speaking in tongues it is not found in bible that this is a sign for to be baptised with the Holy Spirit for every believer. As it is tauhht today from the pentecostal and charismatic movements.
So it is no attacking to the gifts of the Holy Spirit ! But it is a strong questioning about this teaching.
Interesting also is that the pentecostal and charismatic movements are count as the engine of the ecumenical. This has nothing to do with Sound teaching.
Btw, I feel of course uncomfortable when I listen to teachings which uesing terms and practices which I can find also in the occult and New age movements.

Yea it is flawed reasoning, but what I'm meaning is the fact remains, not many actually abide by these guidelines set by Paul.. and I've never seen it done by those guidelines.

Such imperfections are part of the sin nature that is in you and everyone else - never stopped God from loving us did it........

The Good News is that God is very patient with us and never stops pouring out His Holy Spirit to them that ask Him.

So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
If you (wattie) then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11

Take the gift of speaking in tongues. Show me in the scipture that it was taught to believers, that it is a proof that someone got baptised with the Holy Spirit.
While Paul clear statet that it is a gift which not every Christian receives 1. Cor. 12,30)
Almost all pentecostal denominations and charismatic movements claime that every Christian can get this gift.
So whom I should believe?

LOL, FYI show where the gifts of the Holy Spirit were thought to believers Hmmm How about 1corthinians chapter 12 through 14.

this is the mindset of one who looks at the word of God and tries to seek a narrative that is built of a false one.

"Show me in the scripture that it was taught to believers". the initial evidence of one empowered by the Holy Spirit is well seen in the book of Acts which you were shown many times yet will not accept. FYI Pentecostals do not claim that every Christian gets this gift.

The word of God teaches the gift of the Holy Spirit is for all as the Holy Spirit distributes as HE sees fit. But we are encouraged to seek them and desire them just as we are encouraged to be Pastors and teachers and evangelists. YES God has a plan for all believers and yes a work to do.

What do you do for the kingdom of God? Or are you retired.

So your saying the evidence is in the context of scripture rather than expressed as a direct word in scripture or do you deny the trinity?

You mentioned the book of Acts. When this book Was written and used as book of the bible? Acts 2,8,10 or 19 nowhere teached that the gift of the Holy Spirit is for empowerment. It teaches that it is a sign for the jews that samaritians (8), gentiles (10) and those who know only the baptism of John (19) belong all together and are Adressat of the gospel.
That this apostolic time was special you cant deny. This you will not find today. Or can you show me were people in your church are beamed to another place like Philipp or that the shadow of an believer can heal. Or an piece of cloth as from Paul?
That God is doing miracles today is out of question.
And that the Holy Spirit is giving gifts for the ministrie.
And yes, God has a plan for every believer.
I was 20 years involved in Mission ministrie in India and I still supporting Mission.

If pentecostals dont teach that speaking in tongues is for everybody. Why then they make such a pressure to the believer? And give the impression that when a believer is not speaking in tongues he has not realy searched to get it?

Brother, the blessings from God are not depend from reading a special book of the bible.
