In most bibles 2 Corinthians 5:21 is translated in a way that it makes it look like the sinless lamb of God was made sin.

For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21
The words [to be] don't exist in the text. So a better translation is:

For he hath made him sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21
It still looks like Christ was made sin; however the words sin for us are υπέρ ημών αμαρτίαν, which mean on behalf of our sin, or concerning our sin. So a better translation is:

For he has made him on behalf of our sin, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

And an even batter translation

For he has made him a sin offering for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

So what 2 Corinthians 5:21 actually says is that Christ became a sin offering on our behalf, and this is why

There is no word for sin offering in either Hebrew or Greek scripture; sin offering is written for sin in Hebrew, and concerning sin (or on behalf of sin) in Greek

So for example, in Leviticus 7:37 in the King James bible, sin offering is written simply as for sin (the brackets around [offering] indicate that the word doesn't exist in the Hebrew text).

This is the law of the whole burnt-offerings, and of sacrifice, and for sin [offering] and of the trespass [offering], and of the consecration, and of the sacrifice of deliverance [offering], Leviticus 7:37 (KJV)
The LXX version of this verse has for sin (περί αμαρτίας, peri amartias)

This [is] the law of the whole-burnt-offerings, and of sacrifice, and for sin (περί αμαρτίας), and for transgression, and of the sacrifice of consecration, and of the sacrifice of peace-offering; Leviticus 7:37 (LXX)

περί αμαρτίας (peri amartias) also appears in the NT to refer to sin offerings. For example:

Therefore entering into the world, he says, Sacrifice and offering you did not want, but a body you readied for me. Whole burnt-offerings and [sacrifices] for sin (περί αμαρτίας) you did not think well of. Hebrews 10:5-6
Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and [sacrifices] for sin (περί αμαρτίας) thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and [offering] for sin (περί αμαρτίας) thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure [therein]; which are offered by the law; Hebrews 10:5-8

In Romans 8:3, Paul uses this same language to refer to Christ as a sin offering. So this verse makes it clear that Christ was not made sin, but was made in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering

For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin (περί αμαρτίας), judged sin in the flesh: Romans 8:3
Restated for clarity:

For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own son in likeness of sinful flesh and a sin offering, judged sin in the flesh: Romans 8:3

In the LXX Isaiah 53:10 foretold Christ being a sin offering using the same language

The Lord also is pleased to cleanse him from scourging. If you should give for sin (περί αμαρτίας) [offering] your soul, he will see a long-lived seed: Isaiah 53:10

So 2 Corinthians 5:21 says the same thing Romans 8:3 does, ie, Christ was made/sent on behalf of our sin, ie a sin offering, and he knew no sin , but only had the likeness of sinful flesh, ie a son of Adam.

A couple of other things to think about. If Christ had been made sin, he would not have risen from the dead. But realistically, no one can be made sin because sin is not a thing; sins are acts of rebellion that incur guilt, which Christ paid as a substitutionary sin offering

Here's an example that uses the same words for sin offering as in 2 Corinthians 5:21 - υπέρ αμαρτίας

And on the second day thou shalt offer a kid of the goats without blemish for sin offering (υπέρ αμαρτίας); and they shall cleanse the altar, as they did cleanse [it] with the bullock. Ezekiel 43:22

Micah also used the same language as 2 Corinthians 5:21 - υπέρ αμαρτίας

Will the Lord accept thousands of rams, or ten thousands of fat goats? should I give my first-born for ungodliness, the fruit of my body for sin (υπέρ αμαρτίας) of my soul? Micah 6:7
Restated
Will the Lord accept thousands of rams, or ten thousands of fat goats? should I give my first-born for ungodliness, the fruit of my body for a sin offering of my soul? Micah 6:7
This has echoes of Isaiah's prophecy about Christ's soul as a sin offering

The Lord also is pleased to cleanse him from scourging. If you should give for sin (περί αμαρτίας) [offering] your soul, he will see a long-lived seed: Isaiah 53:10

Here might be an allegory for you and others also

Son with Father from day one in time. Man the first Adam sinned to God in "Unbelief" to God. that he would die if he ate from that one tree, told not to eat from, that if did he would assuredly die. Note: God did not kill either one of them did God? The today self flesh does that, not God.
Adan saw Eve eat and not die. What happened, he ate also in "Unbelief", then saw he was as good as dead, grabbed Eve and ran from to hide from God. Read the entire story of what happened, please and trust Daddy, PaPa, Father to reveal the truth thank you

Yet, Father God YHVH saw all as good and rested, on day seven. That was prior to the fall, was/is that true or not?
Father saw all way ahead and said to Adam and Eve in Genesis 3, which is to me the very first prediction of our/my savior today , Jesus the Christ in English as risen where new life is given and we only walk in love and mercy to all, thank you as born new from Daddy through Son's den work only, for me at least
Now the allegory of what I see

Father and Son together as One, talked and Son said to Daddy, PaPa, I see toys do not want anyone to die, anyone and you love us, that be why you gave free choice to choose and never force or manipulate anyone
How about this PaPa!
You send me to die once, willingly, for all your creation. PaPa, says why, yes go. Yet we need to wait, what, why. All people need to know consciously so, that they are not perfect and by that imperfection first born in everyone at first birth, to go through this to see it for themselves they need me to perform perfection through them to rest in.
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So Son does this.
We see in the first Testament, no-one could ever be perfect ever. the proof of that, imputing Law
Man fails, over and over and even kills Father's Prophets, these first chosen people were listening to gainsayers.
God not pleased, neither would I be, would you be anyone else either?

Now we see this 2,000 years goes by and Son comes to earth through Woman, not man Genesis 3:15-16
Now if or since one day is as if a thousand years to the Lord, 2,000 years would be two days for Dad's response through Son to us all as we are now by Son does work reconciled, Forgiven, tha tis done by Son as in. John 19:30 for us the people all of us everyone
Left with to believe God or not, that is all folks. It is done by Son for us to believe and stand in it. Then one sees new happen through them, at least me and many others born new see this amazing truth too. Can say thank you to God Father, grace is sufficient 2 Cor 12:1-10
When you see what Paul saw, which can only be from God Father in risen Son, then one will know and remain humble in this amazing truth given them to stand in forever
