Your Word for Today

“And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the Earth, and the top of it reached to Heaven: and behold the Angels of God ascending and descending on it (Gen. 28:12).

Jesus spoke of this ladder when He began His public Ministry. He said to Nathanael, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter you shall see Heaven open, and the Angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man” (Jn. 1:51).

That ladder, as Jacob saw it, was closed to all but the Angels. In other words, due to the terrible sin debt upon man, even believing man, Heaven was closed to all. Believers who died before the Cross did not go to Heaven, but rather down into Paradise, where they actually were held captive by Satan (Eph. 4:8). They were comforted in
Paradise; however, there was only a gulf which separated Paradise from Hell (Lk. 16:19-31).

But when Jesus died on the Cross, the sin debt was forever paid. Now that ladder is open not only to Angels, but also to all Believers.

The moment the Cross was a fact, Jesus went down into the nether parts of the Earth, and made those who had been all of this time captives of Satan, His captives, and took them with Him home to Glory. Now when a Believer dies, he instantly goes to be with Jesus (Phil. 1:23), all made possible by the Cross.”

Bread Crumbs “Learn to Discern” January 14

Discernment in the life of a Christian can only be brought about through experience. As we grow in the grace and the knowledge of the Lord we must learn how to identify that which is profitable and that which is damaging. Paul taught that all things were lawful for believers but not all things edify. Discernment demands that we move beyond the boundaries of personal preference and inward prejudice and look honestly at every situation. Our guides must always be the Word of God and the Spirit of God. As we learn to properly gauge all that we see, all that we hear, and all that we encounter, we become adept in recognizing that which is of the Spirit and that which is of the flesh. We must take every situation and deal with it separately and with sensitivity. Only then will we learn, by putting these tools into consistent use, how to follow the voice of the Holy Spirit and how to be led by the directives declared in the Word of God. Judge all things by the leading of the Spirit and by the authority of God's Word! You will very quickly begin to participate in the benefits of developing discernment.

Hebrews 5:14 - But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:1
The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

Oh the joy it is to have a mother who will teach their children the prophecies of the Word of God. To hold us on course, the Lord reminds us in Revelation 19:10 that the Spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus, therefore when we see prophecy in God’s Word, it will ultimately reveal Jesus to us in a greater measure.

We are blessed to be able to hold in our hands the Word of the Lord, but even more so as we believe it, God the Holy Spirit imparts it into our hearts. God’s Word becomes our very Light to be able to see in a dark world. We live by faith, and faith only comes by hearing God’s Word (Romans 10:17) in its Righteous context (Proverbs 8:8). Always remember that it is the Righteousness of faith (Romans 4:13), or it is not biblical faith that God honors. Faith that does not produce the fruit of righteousness is only flesh. When our faith is in the work of Christ at Calvary the Holy Spirit can then reveal the Truth of God’s Word and our fruit can be that unto Righteousness.

Your Word for Today

“And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a Man with him until the breaking of the day (Gen. 32:24).

God had a controversy with Jacob because of his faulty life. When, as a consequence, he found himself in deadly peril and realized that God Himself was behind that peril, and that it really was not with Esau his brother that he had to contend, but rather with the Angel of Jehovah Himself, he then learned a valuable lesson. When sore broken by that Mighty Hand, when he ceased to wrestle and clung instead with weeping and supplication to the very God Who wounded him, it was then he got the victory and the glorious name of “Israel.”

The great principle that God cannot give victory “to the flesh” appears in this night scene. It is the broken heart that begins to experience what Divine Power means. Better for the sun to rise upon a limping Israel than to set upon a lying Jacob.

Jacob, for his misconduct, was exiled from the Promised Land, having nothing but his staff. He returns a wealthy prince, but lamed. So Israel, cast out of Jehovah’s land because of her sin, also will return with abundance, but broken and contrite in spirit, all typified by Jacob.

God had to cripple the “flesh” in Jacob, as He has to cripple the flesh in us. It can only be done one way: As you, the Reader, will learn in this Devotional, it is the Holy Spirit Alone Who can subdue the flesh. He demands only one thing of us, and that is that our Faith be anchored squarely in Christ and the Cross, never wavering.

Paul said: “

For the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of sin and death” (Rom. 8:2).”

Bread Crumbs “Keep Believing” January 15

Faith and hope are greater than fear, despair, or frustration. Faith should always be directed towards God and not towards the abilities, talents, strengths, or organizations of men. Faith should always have as its object, the cross of Christ. It is the event of the cross, where covenant was cut, that opened the door for mankind to receive all provision regarding their financial, physical, or spiritual needs. But faith in the right object does not always supply a speedy answer to life’s dilemmas. There may come a series of disappointments before the answer you seek is realized. When you hope for the answer to be received on a certain day or in a certain way and the answer fails to materialize as you had desired, disappointment has the potential to thrust us towards the loss of one’s faith. It is at this “crossroads of life” where we must make a choice to keep believing, despite the crushing blow that has attacked the senses. God can do anything but fail. So let your head rise above the waves of despair and do not be drowned in a sea of unbelief. Continue to believe for that which you have hoped for. It will be worth the wait when the answer you sought God for arrives.

Proverbs 13:12 - Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:2
What, my son, and what, the son of my womb, and what, the son of my vows?

Even when a mother’s son becomes a king, she remains instructive and encouraging to him. A mother who knows God’s Word will always share God’s Word to her children at all ages throughout life. There is no end to sharing God’s Word until there is no more breath to share it.

The mother of King Lemuel begins to warn him of things that can ruin his kingship and destroy him if he doesn’t go the right way. There is and has always been only one right way and King David called it the Way Everlasting (Psalm 139:24), and His name is Jesus (John 14:6). When our trust is in Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice, we will experience the Way Everlasting and all His benefits. When we find ourselves trusting in what our flesh desires, and all the religious folks point us to, we die (Romans 7:9, Galatians 5:1-4, Revelation 3:1-6). Cling to Christ through faith in His death, for that is what the Holy Spirit is attempting to conform us into the very image of (Philippians 3:10).

Your Word for Today

“And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days (Gen. 49:1).

The Holy Spirit, in Hebrews 11:21, points to Jacob’s action in this Chapter as the great faith action of his life. Feeble and dying, and having nothing except the staff on which he leaned and worshipped, he yet bestowed vast and unseen possessions on his grandsons.

First he recited the Gift of the Land of Canaan to him by God (Gen. 49:3-4). Then, making Joseph his firstborn (Gen. 49:22), he adopts Joseph’s two sons as his own (“Even as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine”), and setting the younger above the elder, endowed them with the firstborn’s double portion. It was a beautiful picture of a faith that was Divine, intelligent, and triumphant.

The double portion given to Joseph as the firstborn was a conquered portion (Gen. 49:22). The possession given by God to the Divine Firstborn among many brethren, the Lord Jesus Christ, is also a conquered possession, i.e., it was done at the Cross, and it redeemed His People out of the land of the enemy — the Amorite, one might say.

Everything Jacob said came to pass, and everything our Heavenly Jacob has promised us will also come to pass. The Cross has made it all possible! (Rom. 6:1-14)”

Bread Crumbs “The One True Friend” January 16

When torment has crushed my heart and circumstances have effectively eliminated all hope, Jesus spreads sweet peace throughout my soul. When I experience the rush of the cascading flood, Jesus assures me I will not be drowned. He has been the “fourth man” in my fire and has kept me from the burning flames. When my faith threatens to falter, He has sent the comforting word, the anointed song, or the embrace of a friend. Jesus has stood at the front of my boat and with a single word has brought great calm to a threatening tempest. When its darkest, He’s my light. When I’m fearful, He’s my Comfort! When I’m downcast, He’s my Joy! When I’m a failure, He never falters! When I stumble, He makes a way! When I’m lonely, He’s my companion! When in despair, He gives me hope! When I’m famished, Jesus sets the table! When I’m thirsty, He’s Living Water! He is my rock. He is my shelter. He is my fortress. He is my strong tower. If I find myself walking through the valley of death, I won’t be walking alone. And when I close my eyes for the final time, I’ll see Him face to face. Oh Precious Jesus!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:3
Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

King Lemuel’s mother continues the loving instruction to her son as she warns him not to give his strength to women, which refers to fornication and adultery, which always destroys not only kings but all who partake therein. All throughout God’s Word where we see adultery, we see destruction and death.

As we have learned in our study of Proverbs along with the New Covenant, is that when comments such as “Strength to women”, and the “Strange woman” are mentioned, it has a much deeper meaning than just physical adultery. There is a spiritual adultery the church has been TOTALLY ignorant of for almost all of its existence. This spiritual adultery takes place as the church trusts in anything other than that which made them the bride of Christ (Romans 7:4), which was the blood of Jesus! For the Christian to trust in anything other than the cross of Christ is to commit spiritual adultery, and in this place there is destruction and death (Romans 7:9, Galatians 1:6, 5:1-4, Revelation 3:1-6). Cling to that nail scarred hand and the experience of the One who is our Life and Husband (Romans 7:4) will be there for you daily!!

Your Word for Today

“Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house (Ex. 12:3).

The lamb, and all that pertained to it, symbolized Jesus in His Atoning Work.

1. “Your lamb shall be without blemish”: Jesus was without blemish.

2. “A male of the first year”: Jesus was the Second Man, the Last Adam (I Cor. 15:45, 47).

3. “And you shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month”: This was for further inspection in order that no blemish be found. For 33 1/2 years no fault was found with Christ. Satan had no part in Him.

4. “The congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening”: Jesus would die at the time of the evening Sacrifice, 3 p.m.

5. “And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door posts of the houses”: As the blood of the lamb was shed, Christ shed His Life’s Blood. As the blood of the lamb was to be applied to the houses, likewise, and by faith, it is to be applied to our hearts and lives (Eph., Chpt. 2).

6. “And they shall eat the flesh, and let nothing of it remain”: One must partake of all of Christ, which refers to believing all He did for us at the Cross.

7. “The lamb was to be eaten with unleavened bread”: This typified the perfection of Christ. There was no evil, i.e., “leaven,” in Him.

8. “And you shall eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand”: As Israel was leaving Egypt (and they were to be prepared to leave at a moment’s time), likewise, the believing sinner, upon accepting Christ, is to leave the world and its system behind, and do so forever.”

Bread Crumbs “Glorifying Christ” January 17

The premier ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Christ. He desires to make Christ the object of our love, our affection, our faith, and all our praise. The Scripture says that He will not speak of Himself but rather that He will always glorify the Person and the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. We should expect the Holy Spirit to work tirelessly in the effort to reveal all the benefits brought to us through the work of Calvary. It is there that Christ established our inheritance, our healing, freedom from sin, and every other aspect of God's redemption plan. What's the bottom line? The Holy Spirit will always point to the Cross! He will not point us to the energies of man, to the advanced education of the learned, to the traditions of religious organization, or towards the limited mental capacities of fleshly thinking. He will not lead us to faith in self. He will always point us towards the finished work of Christ. For one to better understand what the Cross accomplished will always bring glory to Christ. Therefore, to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit is to arrive at proper faith in Christ and Him crucified. He will always direct your heart to Calvary.

John 16:14 - He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:4
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

Lemuel’s loving mother continues to instruct and to encourage him with wisdom from on high, as she reveals to him that it is not for kings to drink wine, nor for princes to drink strong drink. How awesome is this to see again in God’s Word that He doesn’t want His people touching alcohol at all. Oh, you say, “I’m not a king or a prince, but God says that if you are a child of God that you are a king and a priest in His Kingdom (Revelation 1:6). If you are a Bible believer, now instead of excuses for the alcohol consumption, there is a desire for the new wine found in Christ!

Only the flesh and carnality of man desires alcohol, and any reason given for the consumption of it outside of sickness and prescribed by a doctor is only a denial of what Christ could be providing for us if we were learning to trust Him instead! To use these vessels of honor (Our bodies) in which the Holy Spirit abides for anything other than the magnification of Christ and the glory of God will today bring forth destruction and death. Trusting in Christ and His work on the cross exclusively will provide everything we have ever longed for and more.

Your Word for Today

“And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt (Ex. 12:13).

He said, “When I see the blood,” not “When I see your particular Church,” or “your good works,” or “your particular Denomination,” or whatever! It’s “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”

The worthiness of the person is not taken into question, simply because, in the eyes of God, there is no worthiness. The goodness of the person is also not taken into question, simply because, in the eyes of God, no one can really be called “good.” That which characterizes acceptance by God is that the Blood of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, which refers to what He did for us at the Cross of Calvary, be applied to our hearts and lives, which is done by Faith (Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:8-9).

This simply means that both the believing sinner and the believing Christian are to place their Faith exclusively in Christ and what Christ did for us at the Cross (Rom. 6:1-14).

The Holy Spirit states in I Corinthians 5:7 that the Passover pictured Christ’s Sacrifice of Himself in order to save sinners sentenced to die. Two great facts appear in the first Passover: the certain doom of the firstborn and his certain Salvation. He was doomed to death by God, not because of his conduct, but because of his birth. This latter fact, he could not alter; and he was, therefore, hopelessly lost. He was, however, absolutely saved, because of the value of the life sacrificed for him. He knew he was saved because God had pledged Himself to most certainly save all who sprinkled the shed blood upon the door posts, all a Type of the price Jesus would pay on Calvary’s Cross in order that we might be saved (Jn. 3:16).”
