Amen. This is real talk. Pastor TD Jakes said the same thing.

I like TD Jakes. I typically don't ever see his sit down shows but get to catch some of his sermons. But if he is encouraging people in God, who understand their sins to help others conquer similar sins. Then I believe, he has arrived to the point of knowing his own personal sins and has been helping others to conquer their sins. I think and personally believe, this is how we can ensure new believers to become long life believers!! When new believers see that old time believers are just like them, it helps to pave the way for them to continue in God :)

How is it when I am weak, I am made strong? How does that work?
Romans 5:20
Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.

It appears that what you are experiencing is part of your personal repentance process that will eventually result in sanctification. I believe that God's grace abounds when you reach a point where you find that in yourself you cannot end sin but only by God's grace will you overcome. You are made strong by allowing the Holy Spirit to convict you and then guide you on the proper spiritual path. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord. Soul food.

Does a recovering drunk sit at a bar every night not remembering what once conquered him?
How can you encourage someone who is struggling, when you have struggled with the same thing and then forgot it?

That is another reason for how I view the Book of Hebrews!!

Experience, suffering, problems, sins we are overcoming are how we relate to the LOST in order to offer them help.

I used to chase women, drink, did drugs, was involved in bikers and gang related people. So now, I should forget all of that, when I can see someone else who is trapped the same when they are searching for a way out?

Simple, remind him that

He is dead to sin
God sees him as righteous.

Everything he takes a drink, believe and declare out loud, "I am the righteousness of God in Christ".

As he keeps doing that by faith, he will wake up one day and find that alcohol distasteful. That is the power of the divine exchange.

Pastor peached on it this morning. The primary reason that we fail is because (aside from our sin nature) we allow other things to become our focus. Peter sank in the water when he saw the wind and the waves. This is why we are to make a practice of prayer without ceasing. And this
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
PHILIPPIANS 4:8 NASB
This is our combat against besetting sin.

I am sure that is one of the ways it happens and thank you for that!!

But that was not the point.

The point being, many people are not introduced to God on their own account. Usually, someone who either personally knows you, someone who is just being random and picks you out, or someone who once was a drunk will approach a current alcoholic and introduce them to Yeshua.

And what that ultimately means, the recovering saved alcoholic remembers the pit they were in and now chooses to try and help others get out of the pit.

Either way, Hebrews is an outline of someone's personal view of the entire Bible Old/New Covenant. It is the most eloquently written Book in the entire Bible, even more eloquent than the writings of Solomon who was the wisest man ever. Which makes you think. We know Paul nor Luke actually wrote Hebrews. That leaves the unlearned and uneducated Disciples. And no way would they write better than Solomon.

The way Hebrews is written shows the evolution of writing styles. Which means, it was written well after John's Book of Revelation!!

Since I am a child of God, am I practicing sinning (by the works of the flesh) or committing acts of sin? Is the sin nature reactivated in me?
When you sin ypu are feeding the flesh. The flesh wants whats contrary to the Spirit. What you want to do according to the Spirit the flesh doesnt want to. Its a struggle we face as Christians.

So rest assued that if you are struggling then that means you have the Holy Spirit or else you would not feel any conviction. The fact that you feel against it is because there is one greater in you. And it is in Him that we can overcome. And the Holy spirit is given for us as a helper to overcome sin. The bible teaches we must rule over sin.

Genesis 4:6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

Confess those sins and ask God to forgive you. Name them, be specific. Dont just call them 'sin' actually name exactly what they are. Put them to death on the cross. Then ask God for grace so you can be raised to do the opposite, which is righteousness.

Sin isn't conquered in a day, it can take a long time to over-come some things. That's why Jesus told Peter to forgive someone 7x70 times (Matthew 18: 21&22). God does the same with us as long as we're repentant.

MOTC, I think you're forgetting that Christians DO still sin from time to time. We aren't exempt from it just because we are Christians now. Our sin nature never goes away, it's always there. But it IS up to us to try and not commit sin anymore.

paul explains in romans that the sinful nature has a will of its own and unless we die to it we will never overcome it, but while it lives in us it does what we do not want to do so it is not us doing it but the sin living in us, the only way to overcome sin is to remember the bible as Jesus did when the devil tried to tempt him.
