oh for pete sakes

here is what was said

7 Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. 8 And I gave you your master's house and your master's wives into your arms and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if this were too little, I would add to you as much more

feel better? now say how important it is to get scripture correct even though half this thread has got it wrong

hope no one's feelings are hurt :geek:

I am sure of a few things in this whole David-Bathsheba ordeal. When David was looking at Bathsheba from his roof, the devil was whispering into his ear: "What is the point of being king if you can't have a good looking wife like that gal there." "Sure go after her, you are the king afterall." "Why not just get her up here and go from there."

Once the deed was done, the devil whispers all kinds of ideas for the cover-up. Once the pregnancy was discovered, I am sure it was Satan that talked David into bringing Urriah in for a little R & R. Faced with Urriah's overwhelming loyalty I am sure that Satan convinced David that he could as king have a man placed anywhere he desired for battle. The devil had David convinced that the king has people die in wars all the time. It was all about self-justification as it always is.

interesting...or not

the devil gets far too much credit for the ills of the world

David had a weakness which the devil may have exploited but he didn't make David do anything he did not want to do

you make it sound like David had no brain and every thought in his noggin was an 'implant'

anyhow this thread has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous as the saying goes and I think my work is done here :geek:

I think she was raped. The reason why she was bathing on the roof is because Israel is hot. People spend a lot of time on their roofs. She was minding her own business.

David was not where he was supposed to be. He was supposed to be at the forefront of the war. Instead, he was being a perv looking at a woman in the privacy of her own rooftop. People in Israel slept on the roofs, and probably had sex on their roofs- it is not immodest, just a cultural tradition.
He had the men bring her to him. She didn’t know David was spying on her. He basically used his power to make her his wife.

Read what Nathan tells him- David took Bathsheba just like the man in the story took the poor man’s ewe lamb.

Just because it is not recorded, it does not mean Bathsheba did not cry. God was good to Bathsheba, He gave her Solomon. It is Bathsheba who tells her precious Lemuel about the Proverbs 31 woman. I believe Bathsheba was that woman to Uriah.

It was not Bathsheba’s fault at all. She could say #metoo.

David reaped what he sowed. He raped Bathsheba, and his son raped his daughter.
That is where I have been reading the last few nights, 1 and 2 Samuel. The story Nathan told him was about David (2 Sa 12:1-7) After telling the story of the ewe lamb... And David cursing the rich man, In 2Sa 12:7 "And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man."

Now I don't get the story/parable very well. The ewe lamb was loved very much and was like a daughter to the poor man. It drank from his cup, sat on his lap. The rich man had a visitor and didn't want to use any of his own flocks, so the rich man took the mans' ewe lamb made it for the visitor.

The rich man stole the poor mans ewe lamb(beloved family member. All I could think about is how I felt about our 19 yr old cat we lost last year, who we loved very much, like a family member, he slept on my belly at night, or slept in bed with my son. He was a big lap cat. He would look at us with Puss n Boot eyes... tearing up, got to stop describing him. ) Any way, with that I could imagine how it would feel if he had been stolen and killed and ate!

If anyone can explain the parable to me? I would appreciate it. Is it referring to Bathsheba's as the ewe lamb?

In the parable, the owner of the one lamb is Uriah, and the ewe is Bathsheba.

So, I understand that Uriah loved his wife very much- and the ensuing events must have been very painful to her.

She is told to go to the palace, David makes her sleep with him. She becomes pregnant by the king, and then her husband and baby die.

David marries her- and she is no longer the wife of one man, tenderly loved and treated, but the wife of a man with multiple wives and concubines.

God lets her have Solomon, and she tries to raise him right. She gives him good advice, which he doesn’t take, but he remembers and records it in Proverbs 31.

Thanks for responding. I think I need to reread that story again.
