when you accept Yeshua as your Lord, God, and Savior, He gifts you the Holy Spirit. but in order to have the gift of the Holy Spirit, you must receive this gift by accepting it from God!!

in this example:
faith in God activates the invitation of the Spirit of God to be permitted to dwell within you. this act is the actual permission to receiving the gift God wants to give to us. it is the perfect form of free will outside the act of believing in God to begin with. because to believe in God and accept Him, you admit you are a sinner and lost without Him!!

It’s actually a really interesting question. Try looking it up
on line and there are all sorts of definations. For example:

To receive visitors and welcome them. That one made me think of
the verses about Jesus standing at the door and knocking.

To receive a TV radio signal. We need to receive and hear Gods voice.

To receive a gift. To not refuse Gods gift of life and forgiveness.

God taps on the heart of a sinner. They are convicted.. they can then either resist or respond to the conviction by belief in God, Jesus.

So that's believing Jesus was crucified, died and rose again to forgive your sin.

With this belief.. the Holy Spirit then indwells the persons soul. Eternal life begins. 😃

That's receiving eternal life..free gift.

To believe Him means we conclude that what the Bible says about Him is true. And in our hearts and minds we conclude this ultimately absolute. But then to receive Him applies as well in line with belief.

" Yet to all who received Him, to those who believe in His name He gave a right to become children of God." (John 1:12).

Receive means we are raised to His risen life, not to our old life; or a new version even of our old life. Thus receiving Him takes the Cross and Redemption both. One day we will have a body like His glorious body, but we can know here and now the power and effectiveness of His resurrection and can "walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:4). Paul’s determined purpose was to "know Him and the power of His resurrection" (Philippians 3:10).

Jesus prayed, "…as You have given Him authority over all flesh that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him" (John 17:2). The term Holy Spirit is actually another name for the experience of eternal life working in human beings here and now. The Holy Spirit is the deity of God who continues to apply the power of the atonement by the Cross of Christ to our lives. Thank God for the glorious and majestic truth that His Spirit can work the very nature of Jesus into us, if we will only obey Him. This is receiving Him - giving us a right to become children of God by way of righteousness unto Salvation. Where our history is set in motion by His history as we sit in things already accomplished in Him receiving His outcome guaranteed and freely given.

The Greek word that is translated as "receive" in (John 1:12) is LAMBANO. It is a very common word that simply means "take," "grasp," "seize," "receive" as well as 'to take to oneself" something or someone. The opposite of receiving something is to reject it - not take it. It was sometimes used of "taking a wife." This implies that "receiving" Jesus means that a person willingly gives himself or herself to Him and accepts Him. And that, of course, constitutes therefore - His Lordship.

when someone hands you a gift, You RECIEVE the gift by taking the gift and making it your own. Rejecting the gift would be to say no thank you, I do not desire to have this gift. And not receiving it.

Salvation is a gift offered by God to each and every person who has ever lived, Is living and will ever live.

I would be careful knowing the father of lies, the counterfeiter always turns the things of God, not seen upside down and makes them about the thing of men seen a clear offence as to the things of faith which do come from hearing God and not men .

I see it more like when our Lord, God, and Savior, gives gift to those dead in their trespasses and sins (no faith) the faith of Christ as a labor of his love is that by which we can beleive Him not seen. We must receive this gift by accepting it from God. Sort of like receiving mail .In that way he moved us as he did with Lazarus being dead 4 days with no way to respond until Jesus gave him ear to hear . Rise up, get the mail... its in the box.

hn 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

The end of the matter it is the same. We are not saved by what we know (knowledge puffs up) but who. Its more how can we hear God not seen, as always he our first love that came from hearing him, the first works of His Spirit working in us must be first . having that faith as our new faith born again faith in respect to the things seen, the deeds of the Nicolaitans who were trusting Nicole. he gives us ears to hear like that of Lazarus what the Spirit says to the churches. and not from the churches.

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.U, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.Revelation 2:4-7

Why were the apostles alway not privy to what Christ was to do next? Remember they even tried to prevent His coming to Jerusalem. It is because they didn't have the Holy Spirit. Christ couldn't send that until He was resurrected. Here is the ref.: John 20:22 "And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

Now we are given a picture of some people still needing the Holy Spirit: Acts 19:2-6
"And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.” And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying."

So, if you were baptized by someone that had the HS and they took authority in the name of Jesus then you have done your part. God talks to us through something like telepathy, mind talk. Until God starts talking to you, there is no evidence that you have the HS. What to do now? Hold God to this promise: Luke 11:9
"And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." If you just keep seeking, in faith, it will happen. :)

It just means that you've accepted something and are in possession of it... In regards to faith, I believe that's something that's demonstrated, not received.. Grace is a gift we receive by faith. jmo
